Enchiladas! Mole sauce!
Rusty J.

We came in tonight hoping for some decent TexMex. We got it. We left satisfied. We were quickly seated upon arrival. Complimentary chips and salsa appeared as soon as we were seated. Our server was there to take our drink orders right away. He was very friendly. He was attentive for our entire visit. My food was really good. I got enchiladas topped with mole sauce. The portion size was huge. I couldn't eat it all. My partner ordered aa taco salad in an edible shell. The shell was fresh. The salsa that came with the chips was really good. It had cilantro and garlic in it and was very flavorful. If I ever return to the area I will happily return again.

Food was Straight up Excellent! I loved the Cheese and Hamburger with Sprite! I Would %100 Come Back, I couldn't Resist to Another Picture of the Food It Was so Delicious! Service was On Top! The Person that Assisted us was such an Amigo! Ambiance Was Very Peaceful I Loved watching The Wolf Pack Vs the Duke University play a Basketball game While I Ate my Delicious Dinner! I honestly Rate this a: 20/5!

This is a place that we frequent often at home but was way better. Great service and different menu items made it a brand new experience. I don't know if it was an accident but they served two jars of salsa, one mild and one hot. Kids enjoyed it as always and ate everything. They have different drinks which were amazing. You can get mole on the side which is a plus. The atmosphere was pleasant. Highly recommended

This Mexican restaurant is a regular stop of ours when visiting OKI. Just a short drive across the bridge for pretty solid food and service. This shopping center used to be jumping with stores, but now this place is basically the only thing remaining. They have opened a second location nearby, but I'm glad the classic has held on for now. The location is quite large with three different dining areas. The decor is lively with a south western vibes. Booths as well as large tables are available for seating. There's a bar area with TVs too. Of course it all begins with chips and salsa. This place is actually the only one I can remember being physically shut off on free chips. In their defense our large group was still kind of inebriated from a day of beach drinking and was ravenous for food. It was also Memorial Day weekend so the place was jumping more than normal, so food was taking longer. I always have a good laugh thinking about it. Regardless to all that, their chips and salsa is solid. My husband and siblings came here most recently late night after the rest of the family went to bed. No holiday or big crowds this time, so the pace of service and food moved perfectly. I ordered the ACP Texano (fajita grilled chicken, steak, and shrimp grilled with fajita vegetables served on a bed of rice topped with queso sauce). It was a nice size portion, and overall tasty. Unfortunately, some of the meat pieces were a bit burnt which effected the flavor a bit. I did love that their was a plentiful amount of Queso on my plate. Between the food and some remaining chips, I got it all. Their Queso is the standard creamy deliciousness we all love. Seems it was burrito night for the rest of the people in my group. My brother got the Seafood burritos with Shrimp (Two flour tortillas filled with scallops and shrimp cooked with pico de gallo and topped with our special cheese blend. Served with rice, lettuce, avocado and pico de Gallo). It looked fresh and tasty. The other two got the Burrito California (Extra large burrito stuffed with your choice of grilled chicken or steak, refried beans, cheese, grilled onion, topped with cheese sauce and sour cream). My husband asked for the addition of their special mole sauce on top. He and I agreed it was a solid mole sauce. Their burritos are HUGE and super Queso cheesy as well. Thank you San Felipe for know what the people want-all da Queso!

Texas Fiesta Nachos

Wonderful service, food and the atmosphere was just right for a lazy afternoon. We shared Texas Fiesta Nachos! Delicious and filling!

Our first here it's a very nice place . Service was good and very fast. They were a little busy the day we came but was seated right away. Our food was amazing, our dinks was good, the food portion was huge it was a lot. Overall it was great!

Went for a group lunch with about 40 people. Service was fast and friendly. Chips and salsa as we waited were a nice touch! We didn't have any alcoholic drinks but I would love to try some another time. We had the Texas Fajitas and they were pretty good, but a little dry and we had to ask for lime wedges (quickly brought over after we got their attention). Shrimp, chicken and steak. Our friends had only chicken and got a very large portion of chicken, taking home most of it. The menu is vast as with most Mexican places with many combos. Was noisy due to our large group in the back section. Will probably retina to try more items.

Before you can say "Buenos", you have warm chips, tasty salsa and a soft drink at your table!

With no specific New Year plans, I decided to head down to my place on Oak Island for a few days. I…read morelove going down there during the off-season. I almost feel like I have the beach to myself. There have been years that I have celebrated New Year's in Amsterdam, New York on a cruise ship or sometimes like this year, in my robe and pajamas by myself, reflecting on a great year that just passed. On New Year's Day I decided to treat myself to a restaurant, but Oak Island and Southport are not any different than Greensboro and most establishments on this holiday.. Most things were closed. I did notice as I was riding around that there was a Mexican restaurant open in one of the new shopping strips in Southport called Los Primos Mexican Restaurant and I decided to give it a shot. Parking was right in front and the OPEN sign was blinking!! It was a very casual setting which I appreciated considering I was in my sweats and baseball cap. It had a mixed feeling of a casual restaurant and a bar which was fine by me, even though I don't drink! The waitress was very welcoming, and before I knew it I had a tall glass of Diet Coke and a basket of chips with salsa. My son-in-law Steven enjoys mole and so I decided to give it a shot and had a burrito with the mole topping. Wow! That was delicious. A combination of sweet and savory. I will definitely try that again and although I don't have anything to compare it to, I thought Los Primos did a really good job with that dish. I enjoyed watching locals Come in and reflected on 2025 over this delicious Mexican lunch. I thought it was also fairly priced and a good alternative to my normal visit to San Felipe which was closed. I have been wavering between giving this restaurant a four or a five but I'm going to give them the top mark for the following reasons. Their prices were moderate, food was very tasty, the diet coke kept coming, the mole was tasty, they were open on New Year's Day and service was excellent and for a restaurant/ bar, I thought they did a great job. Gracias Los Primos ! Hasta luego!!

That said, the experience was terrible. The visit took an hour and 20 minutes, and our food took forever to arrive even though we ordered basic tacos. If they were short-staffed, they should have said so upfront and given people the option to stay or leave. The service was slow and disorganized. While, Chris was a nice guy, he was not a great server and really needs some coaching or to have a different profession. The portions were honestly shocking. My wife ordered two crunchy shrimp tacos with extra cheese and sour cream -- one taco had 1 shrimp, the other had 3, and there was no extra cheese. My steak tacos had barely any meat, chopped so small and sparse it was almost comical. The meat was chopped so tiny it was approximately the size of a meal worm that you feed a chicken. Our total was almost $35 before tip for 4 tacos, one Coke, one water, and a small cheese dip. Earlier this week we ate the same meal at San Felipe for $35 WITH tip, and their portions were generous (5-6 shrimp per taco and real chunks of steak). Slow service, no communication, and laughable portions for the price. Do not recommend. To those about to nosh, DON'T DO IT HERE! Go elsewhere!

People, passions, skills and caring are artfully combined at this outstanding intimate, charming and embracing gem of a Craft Bar and neighborhood fine dining experience! From reading/sampling the (creative does not do it justice) beverage menu, a diverse, succinct and dazzling offering of culinary knockouts (we sampled three) and the gracious hosts, we were... overwhelmed. We live in Tucson AZ and have frankly traveled in most states in this great country and journeyed to scores of nations across the globe. RARELY have we found a place that genuinely earns A BEST of THE BEST of Local Kudos. Loco Jo's does that and even more! But be advised, if you are looking for "same ole same ole" or "just like we had at ________" please do not seek it out. One final note, we really scoped out the room, tables and barstools. Outdoor seating is available. Small tables inside and bar seating that was full. It seems the bar is a big hit. After reviewing the liquor menu, I see why. Some really good ones available. We were seated near the entrance at a small table. The server brought us water and took our orders after a few minutes. We ordered beef dumplings as an appetizer and we both ordered blackened ahi tuna tacos medium rare. The tacos come with chips and salsa. Our appetizer arrived fairly quickly and was great. As we were finishing our appetizer, our tacos arrived. From first glance they looked really good. Then everything kind fell after that. The flour taco shells were cold and looked store bought. The cheese was also similar to the store bought shredded Mexican blend. The sauce tasted like mayonnaise and ketchup mixed together. They use way too much purple cabbage with a nice portion of ahi tuna. The taste was ok. The cold shell and cheese kind of stole the flavor from the tuna. The salsa provided had a strange smoky almost chipotle flavor. I think. It left a strange aftertaste. We wanted to give this place a try. Not sure we'll be back. Our server was good. She was attentive and smiled. We still have her a cash tip that was pretty good. The restaurant has a great vibe and has a lot of regular customers, as evidenced by everyone greeting each other as they entered. Overall, I think three stars is fair. I recommend giving it a try, but not for tacos.

We were greeted by very friendly staff that seated us in a back corner. No foot traffic over there. Server came by for drink orders and we had some time to look over the large menu. It is your typical diner food. Big portions and all fresh made. We tried the Henny Penny sandwich with side of fries and the Reuben with side of fries. Chicken was cooked perfectly on this wonderful roll. Looked delicious. The Reuben meat was chopped and mixed with the sauce and sauerkraut. Very easy to eat this way. And I love the marble rye bread. Not sure where they get their bread but both sandwiches were amazing. Fries were hot and crispy too. This is a great spot right in the middle of Southport. When we finished and left, almost every table was full, even outside tables. There are only about 8 tables inside, so when they are busy, I'm sure there is a wait. We have been to the restaurant 6 times over the last several years and our visit in March 2026 and last night, May 15th 2026, has prompted me to lower the rating. First, my wife's shrimp cocktail had not been deveined, for $17 dollars would expect the few shrimp to be pristine and ready to eat. Plus the greens that were under the shrimp were not just wilted but "gooey" like they were past their due date. I had the ribeye and ordered it medium rare. It came out well done without a hint of pink. The chefs potatoes last night were a mashed variety and they were cold and stiff enough to lay brick with. Our server, Richard, was friendly enough but he came to our table a total of 4 times in the 70 minutes we were there. Even if we wanted to communicate about our meals preparation it would require for our service to have been better. The lobster bisque was excellent and my wife had a side of fries that were also good. The ambience is lovely and we like the location, but after two recent visits with really poor food and service, we won't be back. To those about to nosh, you have been warned. Go elsewhere.
