We got there at 7 but I wish we came at 6. Not enough Dumpling vendors or a lot of wasted street space because the vendors could be better spread out so the lines weren't overlapping. Maybe they weren't expecting so many people but the beer garden was absolutely packed too and those tickets you could purchase ahead of time . We waited over an hour for one dumpling vendor and by the time we got to the front half the dumplings were sold out which was a huge bummer. We could only go to one due to time. We also ordered Love to Go as we waited in line thankfully which took 20 min. I think for this Fest you can only do the beer or do the dumplings or divide and concur with friends because the lines. It was great to be back out but I think the operations could be a little more streamlined. There were plenty of officers around hanging out but the space could have been utilized much better.

Had a fantastic time at the 5th Dumpling and Beer Festival(2019)! Thank you Yelp for the complimentary pair of wristbands! Made this year's experience truly amazing! Upon arrival a little after 6pm the traffic of cars started to build up. Parking was plentiful at this time. This year's festival is definitely bigger with a wider selection of food trucks, food booths to breweries. The beer garden is definitely where it's at! Unlimited beer tastings! Yess please! It was fun and great trying out different breweries and the different flavors that they offered. Very generous pours! Definitely got to see the different local breweries in the area, which I wasn't even aware of like Ogopogo (San Gabriel) and Mt Lowe (Arcadia). Highlights just to name a few: Boba Beer- finally I got the opportunity to try this concoction. Ogopogo collab with Labobatory! Soo good! Choya- from the makers of the plum in the wine bottles they showcased Yuzu cocktail, Singha, and sake bombs! Definitely on the look out for the Yuzu cocktail, makes the perfect spiked lemon ice tea. They also gave out free Choya sodas with an IG follow. Mt Lowe- Glitter AF- raspberry and hibiscus light beer. Amazing taste and looks glittery too! SLO Brew - Wow the Blood Orange beer is so good and refreshing. Definitely a strong blood orange flavor. Sakari sake- that is so fragrant and strong Yeastside- very nice fruity beers Waffleland- my once or twice a year binge on mochi waffles There's so many beer vendors! Dumpling varieties were increased this year as well as other foods! Saw a vendor selling jerk chicken and Jamaican patties! So sad I full of beer and mochi waffles already. Next time! One recommendation would be to post the event itinerary either on FB or a board somewhere, band slots, dumpling eating contest, special guests etc. Overall awesome experience! Definitely looking out for the early bird tickets next year! Hopefully it's on a Friday too!

Went with family and arrived there 10 minutes before the festival was scheduled to "officially" begin at 5:50, hoping we'd be able to beat the lines for food trucks/vendors and get our wristbands for beer tasting. Operationally, a nightmare - We were not able to beat any lines, as they would not distribute wristbands and none of the vendors started taking orders until after the clock struck the start time 6:00. The line for wristbands was already super long (before 6). Doesn't make much sense - if you are fully staffed already, why not start handing out wristbands when the line begins to form? They only had 1 line for EVERYONE. So if you already purchased your wristband online ahead of time, you still had to wait in the same line as those who decided to buy at the gates. The lines for each food vendor were also insane, approximately 1hr wait for most places. They also blocked off a lot of streets for the festival (more than actually used for the vendors), but all the vendors were closely spaced between each other, making for long lines. And why are there cops everywhere? SMH Parking - There was tons of parking for free in designated lots and on the street. Food - Not bad, but very highly priced for really small portions. You could get way better and probably fresher dumplings at any of the 1000s of mom and pop shops within a 5 mile radius. Drinks - Good lineup of brewers from the SGV! Not as much variety in terms of actual brews though. Each brewery had 2 beers on tap to sample. However, most of the beers there to sample were light ales and lagers (cheaper, generic beers). Not sure I got my money's worth there. Seeing as it's the 7th year they've run this event, I would expect smoother operations. If I come back, I would probably eat before going and just go for the drinks.

A Wonderful little festival around the San Gabriel Mission showcasing dumpling oriented food truck vendors, local independent breweries, and even a hot sauce maker. For a Thursday night, I couldn't ask for more. On top of the delicious dumplings and beer samples, there were bands playing, awards to be handed, and a dumpling eating contest. Highly recommend next year, as I can see this festival grow every year!

My first time attending this event and my friends and I had a great time! Thank you Yelp for hooking me up with a couple of tickets - definitely will be coming back in the coming years! So to start off, the dumplings are NOT included with the ticket purchase. You have to purchase the dumplings from the individual vendors, trucks and stalls. What the ticket does get you is UNLIMITED BEER, which is a pretty good deal considering most of the breweries are local craft ones. All the beers were so tasty and the vendors were really friendly. Definitely more of a beer fest than a dumpling fest.

Going on my second one now and this years San Gabriel Dumpling and Beer festival did not disappoint. The event takes place in the city's historic San Gabriel Mission District. They actually did better job organizing this years event than last year. I got here early and it was hardly crowded. The lines for dumplings and beer stalls weren't too long either. Traffic in/out of the area was minimal, compared to last year which was chaotic. Even found a parking spot at some of designated event parking lots. Last year I spent more than 30 min looking for a spot and had to park a few blocks away behind the San Gabriel Mission. Plus, this year they added dumpling eating competition, dance floor and several DJ's booth. For beer sampling and too save time, I purchased my ticket online ($25) or else $30 at the door. Printed my confirmation, showed it to ladies working pre-purchase booth, got my wristband and 4oz beer mug quickly. Love craft beers served here and most were situated in back patio area. Some of the notable beers that I enjoyed were the mango beer from Garage Brewing company, Octoberfest from Angel City brewery, Incline IPA from Mt Lowe and Lagunitas IPA. Though I came mostly for the beer, I did get a chance to try few of the dumplings stalls. Chicken and shrimp cajun bowl was delicious. It's classic Cajun style boil with shrimp, potatoes, corn, sausage and some chicken dumpling mixed in. Meal in itself and good value for $8. Will definitely be back next year and maybe sign up for dumpling eating contest. So I will be training and eating my way through all the yummy dumplings joints San Gabriel has to offer. See you in SGDB 2018!

Really good but $9 a dumpling!

This year was my second time at this event and it was so much better than last years! Thanks to Yelp, I even got free wristbands to sample a wide variety of beers from many different breweries. What was also cool was that the breweries were from all over so you really do get to try a large selection of beers at this event. The beer garden is definitely my favorite part of the event because the vendors are all super friendly and really generous with their pours! My friends and I arrived a little after 7pm and were able to find parking in a lot close by. When you first walk in, there are a bunch of booths and food trucks lined up on the street. Some booths had longer lines than others but surprisingly the lines moved quickly and we didn't have to wait too long for the food. The food selection in general was just okay and although there were more food vendors this year, nothing really stood out too much. We tried many dumplings from different vendors but they were all pretty mediocre. Regardless, the event was still a lot of fun and I loved that it was on a Friday night this year!

I won tickets through Yelp and I was really glad to have experienced this event. So first off, the event itself is free. However, if you want unlimited beer samples, you need to pay for a wristband. The wristband comes with a cute small beer glass. There were a wide selection of beers. While there were lines for some beers, it all moved pretty quickly. One place had boba beer which was pretty fun to try, essentially it was green tea mixed with a beer but still an interesting concept. There was everything from IPAs, lagers, amber ales, etc. I didn't try any dumplings here and actually opted to walk to a restaurant nearby. There were about 3? food trucks that specialized in dumplings and one tent that specialized in dumplings. Every other place had at least one dumplings choice on their menu or had nothing related to dumplings at all. All the places that specialized in dumplings had very long lines. Luckily I've tried all those places before but I was still sad that the lines were so long that I opted to go elsewhere to eat. Recommendations: - To see each company's beer selections, you had to come right up to the front of the tent. It would be better to have big signs of which beers the company brought so that you can decide if you want to wait in line or not - More beer companies outside of ones you normally see in stores - More tents/trucks that specialize in just dumplings - I know it's not a craft fair but it might be fun to have some shopping tents for small knick knacks

I heard this is their first annual festival, so I guess they still have some things to work on. The street that this is located on is fairly small - which is okay - but that means there should be more regulations on the lines are for each stand. I waited in line for a dumpling place, and it turns out the guy in front of us (who was standing there for a good 15 minutes since we got there) thought that the line was for the Korean food. It was a bit chaotic, and it definitely seemed like each stand was taking orders way too fast and way more than they can produce the food. It took an hour and a half for my number to be called, so we ended up only trying to stands. Also, beer is part of the title of this event, so it would only be logical if there are more than 4 beer stands. No one was taking the tickets for the beer as well... luckily I got my tickets for free (thanks Yelp!), but for those who did buy their tickets... that's not very fair. Another huge thing.... no one checked ID's... AT ALL. Definitely something they need to work on. Because that is quite a huge deal. Overall, good music and good vibes (except for the patience growing thin when waiting for food). Nice try though!

    Natalie T.

The Cajun dumplings was the bomb!!! Quite a few different food trucks to pick from. Food is pricy. Free beer with yelp elite ticket. Or you can purchase it. The music was entertaining and fun. The weather was good. I enjoyed it very much

I love festivals. It's free with live music and an awesome DJ. There was a small line of food trucks, less than 10 and a couple of dessert booths and a few vendors. The selection of dumpling vendors was underwhelming. Vintage Dumplings from Mad Dumplings was delicious. Since it's dumpling festival, I was hoping for small orders so everyone can try from several food trucks. I might go again next year and hopefully they'll have more vendors.

This event is currently in full swing - too bad it only happens once a year. I love the location of San Gabriel play house - make sure you check out the party in the back (DJ and lots of beer). It is a gorgeous night and people are having a lot of fun. Love music in front of the playhouse, food trucks parked across the street and all kinds of food - not just dumplings. Lines are getting longer as folks are getting hungrier :) The beer option is $25 for 16 tastings or $40 for unlimited. You can't buy just one, but there is wine to be purchased by glass. Local businesses are open as well! And if you are curious like me, they will let you peak inside of the playhouse :)

    Leslie S.

What fun. We got here early got to try a lot of different things. No lines if here early. We got a table ate our food and listened to good music. They have all sorts of dumplings . Some traditional and some with a little more of a bite(Cajun) lots of fun for the whole family.

They had a giant 21' × 37' LED screen for the live viewing of today's match between Spain and Belgium , creating an incredible atmosphere for all the fans. The Fan Zone also featured cultural activities, live performances, DJs, interactive fan experiences, a community marketplace, and delicious local food. Best of all, I met fellow World Cup and soccer fans from different places, making the experience even more memorable. What an amazing day celebrating the beautiful game! We reserved our tickets on Eventbrite but we got there early with my friend, and even though we waited in line for more than an hour to get in, it was totally worth it! We were able to get in before it became too crowded. My friend also found us a great spot in the shade, so we stayed cool and comfortable with a nice breeze throughout the day. Meanwhile, many people who arrived later couldn't find any shade and had to sit out on the grass under the hot sun. We also received some awesome FIFA World Cup Fan Zone goodies, including a commemorative bracelet and a special team poncho. Such great souvenirs to remember this amazing experience! Only one con, they only have porta-potties, and they were very dirty. They still have the FIFA World Cup Fan Zone tomorrow starting from 12:30-9pm. I couldn't believe we were there for 5 hours. With the pandemic still very much so at large, we are very limited to these types of experiences, but Insomniac was able to pull this off, while still keeping everyone safe. The only downfall (and quite big IMO), was the wait time to enter the first weekend. We waited over an hour to enter GA, and eventually was asked if we wanted to upgrade to VIP for $50. I wish we were asked this in the beginning, but I wonder if they've been able to fix this problem since then. Also, if anyone has attended this and knows the link to the official playlist on Spotify, please send it my way! I'd love to bookmark this entire playlist to listen in my car.

Yeah, it adds up and it doesn't seem worth it, but if there's 8 of you in the car and split the tab, it isn't too bad. We came through on a Friday night. We opted for the VIP package and bypassed pretty much everyone (that line looked like a thousand miles long, so that alone threw all regrets, doubts and second thoughts out the window!) Bypassing the long line was one thing, but then my passengers' bladders decided to go in sync and in unison all needed a bathroom break BEFORE the drive. The VIP package came in handy once again - they have a separate set of porta-potties for VIP peeps, too! Needless to say, there were no lines there either. So, yeah, off to a good start. I didn't really know what to expect, so I decided not to expect too much. There were a lot of mixed reviews on Yelp (complaints were mostly about the cost) so I kept an open mind. THE VERDICT: Totally WORTH IT. This whole production was well put-together. It was beautifully created with a lot of imagination. The engineering and construction alone were astonishing, how long did it take them to put it all up! And I really liked that they coordinated all the lights' movements with the music coming off the assigned radio station (107.9.) And those souls braving the cold as they entertained us with their dance moves... KUDOS! (I didn't get to see what's in the VIP box but going by how each of my passengers went through it like the Tasmanian Devil, I'm gonna assume whatever was in there was fun!) If this is your thing, here are a few tips: 1) Entry is at Holly and Huntington NOT at the main entrance. If you do end up at the main entrance, they'll reroute you. No worries. 2) You can come through as early as 30 minutes before your scheduled time, but try to be there within that window just for the sake of being considerate. The whole thing is about 45 minutes to an hour, all depending on how slow or fast you go. 3) CLEAN YOUR WINDSHIELDS! I meant to, but I completely forgot. But even with the semi-dirty glass, it was still pretty good. 4) Sunroofs are great! I didn't have one (wouldn't have mattered if I did since I was the one behind the wheel) but I was sorta jealous of the peeps who made full use of it. I imagine that's the best way to experience it. 5) You are allowed to open your windows. Just watch out for fog machines... 6) Take your time and let it all sink in. If you can afford it, I highly recommend it, something cool to do social distancing style. It's an event for all ages and a great excuse to get out of the house more especially during these challenging times.

Games & crafts for children and numerous cultural displays are showcased as well. I only spent a good two hours perusing the whole place. I think I needed another two hours to really get immersed in the food and festivities. To offer my patronage and support to the community, I bought one XL size Cherry Blossom Festivel themed pink t-shirt (I would have gotten L size, but they ran out) and one tote bag plus a few Dem' Nutz bags of pecans, walnuts, almond crack (SO GOOD!) and a couple trays of mochi and specialty desserts. It was indeed a wonderful morning of meeting new people, checking out the many vendors, watching the live performances, and buying some goodies to take home. I was very impressed with the number of food vendors in such a limited space. Well done! Unfortunately, I did not get the opportunity to try any of the food vendors because I had a lunch engagement with my Mom and brothers. I plan to return to this festival next year and stay longer for the great food and fun festivities. Come join me in the food and fun!

In addition to doing a little holiday shopping I specifically came here to see my girl, fellow fabulous YE, Hannah S. When I arrived, the festivities were in full swing. There were two stages set up - one on each end. The front stage featured performers from the local school. I was impressed with their musical talents. The young girl that was singing had a great voice. A local band was playing at the other stage a few blocks down. I took my time strolling through the vendor booths while looking for Hannah. I finally spotted her festive booth - The Curio Cat. Hannah looked adorable in her Santa Cowboy Hat. I immediately gave her a great big hug! I just love her energy and her amazing smile. The Curio Cat is a student research academy dedicated to helping children expand their knowledge in Biology, Chemistry, & Computer Science through research & development. It was founded by Hannah & her husband Derek (who is also very sweet). They teach kids useful skills while boosting their self-confidence. (thecuriocat.com) The setup of this Holiday Fair was nice and well organized. It was family oriented and pet friendly. There were also food trucks and fun activities for kids. Santa was even there for photos.

Almost all the booths are decorated out for Christmas and all are local vendors so it's a great place to support the area community while Christmas shopping. Not only do they have tons of vendors, but they also have so many fun activities- especially for the kiddos! They have a little parade led by Arcadia's beloved mascot Perdy the Peacock with the local high school band too. They have tons of lawn games like bean bag toss and a large play area. There's live music on both ends of the fair and tons of food trucks! And they even had a big snow machine!! It was so fun to play in the "snow" in SoCal haha! And the kids absolutely loved it! We tried the Chicken Satay burrito from the ThaiMexCocina truck and the Pulled Pork fries from the Locke Down BBQ truck and everything was fantastic! A lot of the trucks were giving out samples too - all were excellent! The fair takes place on a Saturday in early December from 10am-4pm. Parking is street parking or in the local garages that are within reasonable walking distance. Attendance is free so it's definitely worth a visit! I've also participated in this fair as a vendor and the city of Arcadia does a great job for the customers AND vendors! It's very organized and well laid out. We're definitely planning on participating next year and doing our Christmas shopping here again.

We particularly love how it feels like a big block party. It's great when they close off the roads, allowing people to walk and explore freely. There are several carnival rides for kids, though I wish there were more. While there's a decent amount, I think they could be more affordable for families. We ended up spending $40 on bracelets each day, totaling $80 for the two days. It would be nice if they offered unlimited play options. This year, my wife was working, so we didn't explore as much as we usually do. It seems like almost everyone from the SGV comes for the free swag, and many booths run out early. We have too much stuff at home, so we didn't go to all the booths this time. We did go to one casino booth that had putt-putt. My son and I played, and we got a hole-in-one, which earned us a free drawing for the grand prize. In previous years, we really enjoyed the LA Kings and Disney booths. I will say that last year, after signing up at the Kings booth, we were promised an email about free tickets, but we never received it. The Disney booth was also really cool last year, with Lunar New Year DIY activities and photo opportunities. The food was decent. There were some good places for Chinese BBQ, but the wait times were long, especially at night. We will continue to attend this event with our family each year, and I hope they can add more interesting vendors and family-friendly, kid-oriented events besides the carnival games and rides.

It felt like it came a little earlier this year, but the energy was definitely there. The Highlights: * Vendors Galore: It felt like there were even more booths this time around. Plenty of food stalls to hit up and a lot of helpful information booths if you're looking for local services or community info. * The Food: Come hungry! I spent a good chunk of my time just sampling different snacks. Everything was fresh and hit the spot. * Entertainment: Catching the lion dance is always the highlight for me. It's so loud, colorful, and just a great vibe to ring in the new year. Tips for Visiting: * Location: It stretches along Garvey Ave (between Garfield and Alhambra). It's a huge footprint, so wear comfortable shoes. * Parking: Heads up, it's mostly street parking. It can be a bit of a scavenger hunt, so arrive early or be prepared to walk a few blocks. * Culture: If you want to learn more about Asian heritage and traditions, this is honestly one of the best local events to do it. Definitely a solid way to spend a weekend. It's a great community tradition that keeps getting better!

Parking was the challenge and the closer you want to park, the more you wait! Park farther on the streets and just walk, you might be able to trick or treat along the way. This year, the jumpers were free, parents must sign a waiver (preregistration was available online until 1pm same day). Unfortunately, the lines for each jumper was soooo long! Roughly 30-40min wait and so many families were saving space for other families so the two kids in front of me became 8! Drink or treat was way too long, stretched across the baseball field and you enter the parking lot side to get candy. The games had a line as well, they might have given out candy and prizes if you win? It was too long and we didn't wait. Food being sold was scarce, we ordered a burrito from the birria truck and after waiting roughly 15-20min and told to wait another 20min we just asked for a refund and decided to eat elsewhere given how late and cold it was getting. Overall, so many people! Might go elsewhere for Halloween night.

Literally its time to go to a city or church sponsored event where you can play games for candy prizes, enjoy a few inflatables, and get a bite to eat from a food truck or three. This was the second time that the Munchkin and have been here for this event. We came in 2011 just after having moved to Temple City and now in 2013 as well. The event has grown significantly in the last two years. This is both good and bad. Bad as the lines are even longer, good in that there is more incorporated into the event. Pro Tip: Arrive early with a group of at least 2 adults, 3 or 4 would be preferable. The early arrival and the large group of adults allows one adult to take the kids around while the other adults wait in lines allowing the kids to play the games, get candy, or go on the inflatables/jumper without having to stand around bored. They also have a raffle for a boys and girls bike, toy/candy packages, and pontification by local officials (ie the mayor). The fact that the city does this is an awesome thing IMHO. I know that I appreciate a place to go where the candy can be trusted to be safe and that there is a positive vibe. This park is entirely surrounded by single family homes and this also allows many of the participants to go door to door traditional trick or treating. This is both good and bad. Since the parents must be ever vigilant about the candy and treats that are obtained. Overall this Halloween festival is a hit. I am sure that I would go back again. However I hope to go back with additional parents and a larger group of munchkins, perhaps even a pack. Who knows maybe I will see you there...
