Home delivery stinks!!!! We have a delivery guy who delivers our paper when the mood hits him, not at the time that was stated for delivery when we subscribed for the San Gabriel Valley Times!!! To add insult to injury, our paper arrives late so it sits in our driveway all day instead of my taking it with me to work. It is thrown into our wet driveway when the sprinklers are on or on the front sidewalk for the neighbors to have to walk on? Pathetic delivery!!!! I had the LA Times originally but had the same delivery issues only to find out that the same guy delivers both the LATimes and San Gabriel Valley Tribune, so obviously the issue is the delivery guy!!!! I have a long list of complaints confirmation numbers but apparently home delivery is of no interest to both the newspapers and the delivery guy!!!! A waste of money!!!! read more

It has been a hassle trying to get the tribune delivered. Starting September 1, 2025 we have not had the paper delivered to our home, even though we have paid for the service. Each day we have called and speaking to someone in the Phillipines , we cannot understand them and nothing has been rectified. The delivery person we have had for years was great, and we were informed they had a new boss and the routes would change. That person was correct. We are so tired of the hassle and lies. The supervisor we spoke to said he would call us back, but as of right now, we have not received a call. The Tribune knows our address and our phone, but it's still not enough. Grrrrrr. Extremely deceptive and a scam...DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO THIS PAPER if you have value your hard-earned money not being scammed and ripped off! They have been charging my card for years for a service I had already contacted them to cancel. This company is a scam and should be class-actioned as soon as possible. Paid $142 on Oct15,2024 for a one year renewal and just received a one year renewal newal notice for $219.48 due May 15,2025. I called customer service two times but could not understand the reps as they spoked broken english The third time I spoke to a supervisor who explained that due to "Supply Chain Issues" the renewal notice was correct. She explained that the fine print contained the option for the rebill. If I could rate San Gabriel Tribune a negative 5 it would not reflect my displeasure with the service I recieved today. read more

I recently started helping my dad with his bills. He has received the Tribune since the 1970s. His 6 month bill is $1022 ($2044 annually). I thought it was a scam company, not the real SGT... to my amazement, no, that is the price. I am heartbroken that my dad will no longer receive his morning paper. A yelp rating of 1.1 tells you all you need to know about this newspaper. If you use autopay - beware!!!! You may well be overcharged! I was being charged the 6 month rate every 2 months, for a minimum of 3 1/2 years (I didn't go through credit card statements further back than 3 1/2 years). Our family has subscribed to the Tribune since the 1950s. A number of years ago I went on autopay using a credit card. BIG MISTAKE! On November 10, 2023, I saw a charge for $293.02 on my statement. I thought it was excessive and wondered when was the last time a charge had been listed on my credit card statement. To my amazement, I had also been charged $293.02 on September 18, 2023 and $293.02 and on July 27, 2023. I was basically paying $4.80/day for a newspaper! I went back 3 1/2 years and saw I was being charged an ever increasing, excessive rate over that period of time. From July 22, 2020 to November 10, 2023 I had been charged a total of $4,545.52 for the newspaper. That's about $3.56/day! I contacted them to point out their billing error assuming Customer Service would acknowledge their error and compensate me for it. I was shocked, they said they couldn't do anything about it. I then spoke with a person in Escaltion named Kim. She said they could comp me two free months and then my six month rate would be $275.42. She said if I had any rate problems to call her on her direct line. Also, she said if I paid my bill via her, she would do it for free, since they charge $4.95 if you pay with a regular phone representative or by mail. (Being charged to pay a bill with a check is ridiculous!) I also had her take me off autopay, which is why the six-month rate being charged every two months slipped under my radar. At the end of two months, they sent me a bill for an amount higher than the $275.42 she had quoted, so I called her and she comped me an additional two free months. I then received a bill dated April 29, 2024, once again with a higher rate than she quoted. I have called her repeatedly and left messages, with no reply. Today when I called Kim, there was no message prompt, it just kept saying her line was busy. I went online to see the payment rate and the fine print said it's continuing service with credit card payment - sounds like that would put me back on auto-pay. I then called the office and spoke to a representative (Lena) and then a supervisor (Jaime) who said there is no longer a Kim in their system. Maybe Kim was fired, because I've been trying to call her many times for about a month and she never returned my calls. I told the supervisor that every bill, phone representative or online price was different. She basically said - that's the way it is and that the rate they were offering was a promotional rate and would change in the future. I told her that despite our family. subscribing to the Tribune for over 70 years, I was done with them. She then had the audacity to say there is an unpaid bill, because they have been continuing to deliver the paper and I hadn't told them to stop delivery. Had Kim or one of their representatives returned my numerous phone calls, this wouldn't have gone on this long. I told she to take the "unpaid balance" out of the triple charges they got from me for many years! I can't believe what a scam outfit this newspaper is! If you use autopay beware! read more

Absolutely Horrible at best! The renewal subscription office scams your renewal pricing & time period. I renewed my wknd subscription for a full year at a decent price however I received a renewal notice 6 months later indicating its time to renew! That is B.S.! They obviously take part in deceptive fraudulent practices telling customers one thing & turn around after completed phone call they revert subscription to a shorter time period! Clearly Illegal operating practices & I urge all others who have experienced this deceptive immoral standards S.G.V.T operates by please reach out to me asap so that I may put together a "CLASS ACTION" Lawsuit forthwith to put these criminals behind bars & shut down their operation! Horrible delivery service. Have only subscribed for 2 1/2 weeks and we have not received our paper 8 days out of that time period. Two of the days were Sundays. Short or non existent office hours so you can't call in to try to get your paper for the day when you are missed. What a pathetic waste of money!! Even after calling and canceling and explaining our issues, we still are not getting our paper each day until the paid billing period is over. After taking the S.G.V. tribune since 1972 they stopped delivering my paper, When we called ,I was told I owed $ 93.00 , We talked to several customer service people and advise them I was paid in full and could prove it on my bank account, They did not want to here this and kept stating I owed them from Nov. 2022, again I told them I could prove I did not, Again they kept stating I owe them, Now they say I own them from 2 years ago, I contacted the B.B.B and they advise me the Tribune will not respond to them. I signed up for the Sunday only paper promotion last week on November 25th at an Ontario Reign game but decided I'd like to read my local paper so I called to ask the rates for daily. The customer service agent was nice as she could be. Quoted the rate, took my information, my payment and said should get delivery the next day. As I sit here, on Dec 2nd, 3 complaint calls later, due to delivery problems, still no paper. Each rep told me they would escalate the issue to the carrier and the manager. No response, no satisfaction, just offers of credit. This has not been the first time this has occurred. I am calling today to cancel and get a refund. They wrote an article on Corona Virus update and had to audacity to use a picture of a Kogi truck who gave their community 300 free Kogi Tacos. The picture was of no relevance to the post, they should've done a piece on the amazing things Kogi and Chef Roy Choi is doing for the community instead. Still a great newspaper... This newspaper at one time, use to have the most astounding local news in the valley. You would see some great front page photos of local news and events throughout the valley Over the years, it appears local news has dissipated, replaced by selective one-sided columnists. The paper is very thin since the price went up to .50cents. read more

Horrible customer service. I had canceled my subscription and months later I get charged for the subscription once again. I called customer service and spoke with a "supervisor" (Chris) and was told they do not have record that I canceled and therefore my subscription was automatically renewed and I cannot receive a refund of the renewal fee. I once again told them I want to cancel and for them to email me confirmation for my records. Deceptive practices. Being an online subscriber for many years I was dismayed to find myself getting booted off the online edition. Started the beginning of February. On the 15th I called in (I know I waited too long) and after being on hold was told that my my subscription was terminated for non payment. Since it was an auto-pay situation I looked up my bank statement and found out that for the last 5 years they have deducted $10 a month for the subscription as late as January 10th. Here is where it gets good. On February 13th they deducted $32 and still kept kicking me off the website. The CSR said that she would correct it and now I was going to be paid up for the next 3 months. That's where I said HELL NO. First of all that's overcharging me and what about the two weeks that I've been kicked out? I demanded a refund and she said that she couldn't do it. The company should read all these reviews here if they want to know why their subscription has been going down. I feel sorry for their journalists. I tried to take their 1-cent-a-day offer today but their system is so buggy that it does not even allow me to create an account. Their "virtual agent" is a useless dumb robot, which just served to waste my time. I "chatted" with someone who called herself a live person named Karen but she somehow did not seem to understand what I said. I gave up. It may be very fortunate for me not to be able to subscribe it because they may mishandle my subscription and personal data, after I read all these bad reviews. As much as I don't want print media to dissolve, I'm quite disappointed in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. A salesperson signed me up for SGV Tribune and provided me false information -- that it would be for just one month, and I can then decide to continue it, but if I don't call to continue it, I would no longer get charged nor receive the paper. I did not want to continue it, primarily because I was not even receiving it! So I was getting charged and was not receiving anything in the mail. Although I gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed maybe someone was taking it from my mail (because that is of course the most worthwhile thing to take from my mailbox, of all things), I was charged for another month with no paper in sight. I was able to cancel this "subscription" quite easily via phone call. The staff member, Victoria, quickly resolved my issue by offering to refund me for my last month's charge (this went on for only two months) and would cancel my "subscription" altogether. While I appreciated the quick resolution (although a full refund for both months would have been nice, but I won't argue it -- they can keep my initial $ as a $mall contribution in hopes to better their operations), I would hope that they better train their salespeople. He was clearly wrong and misinformed -- or he was informed and decided to straight up lie to me. Either way, it's completely unacceptable. read more

Newspaper delivery is chaotic. I got the newspaper for two years with few delivery issues. Recently I renewed and have had nothing but issues such as never getting the paper. Plus the newspaper is very liberally biased. The newspaper shouldn't be biased and present both sides of an issue fairly and let the reader decide where he/she stands on any political issues. Because of the liberal bias, I was already planning on cancelling but now with delivery issues, I have just cancelled. One more month to go to that I already paid for. Let's see if I get the newspaper this upcoming month of July. Hopefully they don't charge my credit card again as I did cancel auto renew. Lastly, customer service people are very nice but that can never make up for poor/non delivery and unfairly biased articles. read more

If you have Facebook and follow whittier daily news or any other local newspaper, you might receive a pop up while you're reading your article saying "if you want to finish the article, just subscribe for so and so a month". But here's the deal...its free everywhere else on the internet but Facebook. Just type in the keywords to the article in Google and visit the article from there. No pop up. It's a well designed trick to get you to pay for something that's already free and available. I was blocked from commenting on the Whittier daily news Facebook site because I was freely giving out this information. It's a scam. And now I'm on my own personal campaign against it. Ordered SHV Trib 9 days ago. Confirmation email said expect delivery in2-3 business days. 9 days later, no paper. Called Trib: They don't know anything about my status, saying online orders can take weeks to "get into the system". Get it?--it's "the system's fault". Said I wanted to cancel because there's monkey business here; Trib has advertised business it doesn't really want and is not prepared to deliver, or even be responsible for non-delivery. But I can't cancel. Why? Because my order is not "in the system". Will check with VISA to see if I can just stop pay through them. But don't think I can. It's a great local newspaper/website. It has a lot of neighborhood events and news. The LA Times covers too much, USA Today is even bigger. Have a story, tip, or something interesting? I've been a loyal customer for over 30 years. I continally became frustrated when I would request several times to put the delivery service on hold when I would leave on vacation. Almost everytime my requests were ignored and I would arrive home to piles of newspapers on my driveway. Finally I quit the newspaper. Several days later the manager called. I voiced my displeasure with the lousy service. He tried to convince me to resume the paper with complimentary deliveries to which I declined. My subscription to the newspaper was reinstated anyways. Worst delivery ever. I thought I was the only one with problems, but it seems like 99% of the bad reviews here are for delivery issues. It took them almost two months to start my subscription and only after I complained. Then I received one Sunday newspaper and haven't had one in the following two weeks. I complained multiple times on both occasions, and was told a replacement was on its way. They did not follow through and I did not receive my paper. The people answering the phones are very nice, but it doesn't translate to an actual delivery of a paper. Someone needs to fire the delivery manager. read more

"The San Gabriel Valley Tribune made an error on my advertising which they fully and completely acknowledged and now they are suing me to collect the money! I was convinced by Suki, one of the sales persons, to do an email blast for my company. She informed me this would be the quickest way to get my phone to ring. I agreed to an amount of $1,500. My business phone is linked to my cell phone so I never miss a call. I am the only person that answers the phone. The Tribune email blast brought in ZERO phone calls! When I told Suki, she brought her manager (tall, African-American) out to my office. He reviewed the situation and thought the reason the advertising didn't work was because my personal website did not have the same ad in it as the email blast. I told him that I was never told by Suki or anyone on the SGV Tribune team to have a photo of the ad on my website. So he and Suki acknowledged the problem and told me they would make it up to me and feature my business at no charge in another advertisement. This seemed fair to me. I have had other errors with the newspaper resolved by running another ad. (I have been a loyal advertiser with the Tribune for over 15 years). Well, the new ad never ran. When I asked her why, she said I had to pay the $1,500 before the newest ad ran. Than was not what we agreed upon. Originally, Suki had stated the original ad would run and that I would have a thirty day window to pay for the ad after it was ran. The idea was I would generate business that would easily pay for the ad in thirty days. Now, I was forced to pay upfront before they fixed the problem they created. Therefor, Suki never ran the ad and I never paid for their original error that brought in zero phone calls. I would gladly agree to pay the $1,500 if the newspaper ran the second ad and gave me thirty days to pay on it as originally agreed. But instead, the Tribune has ignored my attempts to resolve this and has sent it over to collections. If you plan to do business with SGV Tribune, be sure to get everything in writing before you commit. Watch out for sales people like Suki that do not keep their promises. read more

WORTHLESS AND WORST PAPER EVER!! If anyone in my house ever suggests getting this rag again I will slap them! Cancelled the paper because the content was minimal and only kept it for coupons and comics which meant only Sundays. Then comics dropped content and coupons were minimal so no need to keep it for that even. First representative states, "Okay. Will cancel account but extend one month so you can have that extra time to think it over." (??) Cancelling paper but fine, I'll take the extra month. Exp was to be 8/26/19 - Veronica's birthday. Called back when I got a new bill. WTH? Second associate states that they did not disable auto pay. She'll fix it. Fine. The following week there was no paper. ??? Call in. Automated system is for shit. Second Sunday in a row without a paper. Call in. Guy on phone states that account ended eff. 7/29/19. I tell him that that was original date, explain first representative's actions, which he states there are no notes of. Brilliance. He says I can pay to extend it for that month. (Mind you, cannot hear half of what he's saying. Keep asking for repeats cause he does not have headset on correct or something. Mike is askew) Tell him, in no uncertain terms, "NO! My one star rating is based on the reporter, Steve Scauzillo's reporting biases and complete disregard of reporting the other side of the issue. There have been several occasions where Mr. Scauzillo has refused to interview or report the other side of the story which is truly unfortunate and unethical.
