This one deserves to die a slow…read morepainful death.It's an amateurish local news put on by high school students rag, so I cancelled my subscription online. I was pleased that they made cancellation easy. So easy that they don't even send a confirmation that you would need to look at. I had not been checking my credit card statements and just found that they never cancelled and have been charging me for about a year after I cancelled. I called customer service and was refused a refund even for the current month that they just charged yesterday. Don't give any money to this sleazy outfit.

It used to be a great paper with very high quality articles, opinion pieces, sports, and entertainment. In fact when I went away to school in the 80s I would buy the Sunday edition at a liquor store in Cincinnati, at great cost, because I missed the writing so much. I thought it must be like that now when I recently resubscribed. Sadly, the current newspaper is of very low quality in terms of the writing. There are still a handful of great writers but most of the articles are poorly written with no cohesion, little useful information, and no obvious editing; essentially terrible writing. And often there is an accompanying photo that has nothing to do with the article. At first I thought AI was writing the articles but I believe AI would do a better job. I already knew that the subscription price of $160 was not refundable but cancelling just now felt so good just on principle. I can only recommend that you don't waste your money like I did.

The Daily Breeze, after the demise of the San Pedro Pilot some years ago, remains the only…read morecommercial daily for the South Bay. The upside is that it does cover some local issues, and is often the only source. The downside is that it tries to be everything to everybody, and as a result does nothing well. In my view it should cut out its own condensed versions of national news and stick to the local. The editorial view of this paper is over there on the right, at times in the "fascist pig" category. So skip the editorial page, and even the op-ed page, if you want to avoid having your blood boil. A daily columnist, Tom Bogert, is a gem and the only reason I continue to subscribe to this rag. I do not know how he does it every day, but he is always worth reading -- and not lined up with the editors' political views.

Elder Abuse. My Mother started the Daily Breeze subscription…read morein the 1970's. Just a single copy delivered to her home for many years. As she got older, she didn't notice that they were hiking the rate higher and higher until I took over as her Power of Attorney, looked at her checking account and they were charging her $406 PER MONTH ($13.50 per day delivery!). She has had YEARS of overpaying. New customers pay $.71-$1.43 per day, depending on their subscription plan. Any lawyers out there want to take on this Elder Abuse? Channel 7 News on Your Side to warn every other Daily Sleeze subscriber? Class Action suit?

If you have eaten in one of our small town Family restaurants no doubt you have seen the El Segundo…read moreHerald. This is a small town newspaper that features local athletes & heroes from El Segundo. It shows you where to be and when to be there. It shows you when the local Farmers Markets are. It tells you everything you need to know about El Segundo. This little newspaper still has a small little Office front in El Segundo which they have to pay rent for and they distribute the newspaper for free. I mean does it get any better than that? I do not think so. I believe Heaven is El Segundo and so does the publisher of this paper.

Don't pay any attention to the local booster who is probably the owner of the "newspaper" called…read morethe El Segundo Herald. The El Segundo Herald is a local real estate flyer with a community newsletter attached. It's headlines are always about the local little league baseball schedule or who is appearing in the local school play. It has no news af any substance and is mostly good for the bottom of the kitty litter box or for wrapping fish. Nobody reads it and it is a nuisance when it is left outside on the sidewalk. I wish they would stop printing it but since it is given away for free, the local realtors must give it enough revenue to keep it going.
