My mother is happy and thriving at San Leandro Senior Living. She moved in 3 years ago and has received excellent care and support. She loves her private room that has lots of windows and a balcony. The staff is extremely competent, kind, and friendly. They manage my mother's prescriptions and assist her with showers. My mother can be grumpy or stubborn at times. The caretakers and staff are not phased and respond with patience and respect. They really try to engage their residents and foster a sense of fun and community. There are comfortable sitting areas and an activity room. They offer a variety of daily activities on-site and occasional trips off-site. They celebrate the holidays throughout the year with beautiful decorations, a special themed meal, and often live music entertainment with dancing. I visit my mother several times a week and see first-hand how the staff genuinely cares for my mother and their residents. I also feel treated as if I am family when I visit. When looking for an Assisted Living for my mother in law I found Pacifica which later changed the name to San Leandro Living, it was perfect for her. She had a nice room overlooking the courtyard with a fountain. They had a beautiful dining room with chandeliers and nice seating, no cafeteria atmosphere there. They had a menu to order from, like a restaurant, so she could choose her meals. Plus a big plus for her, they served pie for dessert frequently which she loved. Everyone was so nice, both staff, administrators and the residents. They were welcoming and made her feel at home. They had entertainment for special days which made it fun for her. I couldn't have found a better place for her. Unfortunately her health declined and she required more care than they could provide so we had to move her. I would highly recommend San Leandro Senior Living for anyone looking for a nice place to live out your final years or a place that offers Assisted care. 5 stars! I have a long time living at Pacifica Senior Living San Leandro. He struggles with both mild dementia and a disability which is the result of several strokes. He becomes frustrated and angry. He is no longer the easy going I remember. I greatly appreciate the efforts of staff members to help him. There are many kind, caring people working there who keep me up to date. My mom moved into Pacifica Senior Living, San Leandro, in July of this year. Prior to moving in, this was her life - married for 65 years, raised 5 children, lived in same San Francisco apartment since early 1990s. Our father, her husband, was placed in long term care in March of 2021 until he passed away in 2023. For the better part of three years, my mom lived alone in that S.F. apartment. Because she never learned to drive a car, she was dependent on her children to take her to visit our father, to shop with her for groceries and other necessities, and most importantly, for companionship. In May of this year, she was hospitalized and needed help from her children to recuperate. It was then that my brother, my three sisters, and I decided it was time to look into assisted living for our 88-year-old mother. My brother and I searched for senior housing in the San Francisco Bay Area, We found Pacifica Senior Living in San Leandro. It is located about 10 minutes from one of us, and the idea of that proximity was intriguing. My brother and I visited with Shirley McElhattan, the Community Relations Director, separately. After our visits, we both agreed that this could be a great fit for our mother (emphasis on "could"). It was then time to broach the idea of moving into an assisted living community with mom. Inseparable from our dad between 1958 and 2021, my mom was suddenly thrust into living by herself. Because of her recent hospitalization and subsequent recuperation period, she actually accepted the idea of moving into an assisted living community where: she would no longer need to cook for herself; she would get her apartment cleaned regularly; she would get her laundry done for her; and, if and when needed, she would have access to special assistance with bathing and dressing. Pacifica Senior Living in San Leandro provides all of these services for her, but what we did not count on was the transformative power of the "Community" that is the Pacifica. Every single person she has met has been welcoming - Shirley, Lisa, Glenda, Gladys, Linda, Gendelle, Nancy, Edna, Vicky, Judee, Jerome, Delma, Alicia, Roselyn, Clarissa and countless others! Our mother is thriving at the Pacifica! She enjoys the food offerings. She has made friends with her fellow residents. She has participated in many of the daily activities. Every day when we speak, either in person or on the phone, she tells me about her day. This formerly reclusive/exclusive woman is now participating in community morning stretches, physical exercise, community walks and field trips. She attends religious service. She enjoys the musical entertainment. She looks forward to playing bingo. I find it amusing that in order to visit, I must first check the Activity Calendar, so I know where to find my mom! read more

Excellent & Caring staff. Cuisine is varied and tasteful. Kitchen staff worked with me to follow doctor-directed diet. The place is very clean and NO smell of urine. My studio apartment is spacious and moderately priced compared to other Bay Area facilities. Lisa, the business office manager, is a lovely woman who makes our stay here, enjoyable. She does beautiful decorations for all the holidays, and makes all the business arrangements that you need fluid and easy to accomplish. read more

Lisa is so kind and always has the answer to any question. Shay and Nora (med tech) worked well with Suncrest Hospice to keep my mother-in-law pain-free until she passed. My grandmother has been at Pacifica Senior Living in San Leandro for one and a half years. She is very happy there due in large part to the activities director, Lai. Lai is a very caring person with lots of energy and enthusiasm! She definitely helps my grandmother to be both mentally and physically stimulated, despite my grandmother being 97 and in a wheelchair. Lai also arranges special snacks and activities for every holiday, and my grandmother loves her snacks! Two of her favorite activities are bingo and balloon badminton! Care has been challenging during Covid, but Pacifica Senior Living and Lai have taken sanitation, masks, distancing, and cleanliness very seriously. Lai uses FaceTime to help my Mom and me keep in touch with my grandmother during shelter in place. The residents received their first Covid vaccine shots at the beginning of this month, second shot in another week! We appreciate Pacifica Senior Living and Lai so much! read more

My mother and her husband moved into Pacifica Senior Living in March 2020. Shortly after, due to Covid-19, Shelter-in-place was enforced. Due to the restrictions in place to protect our precious seniors, I contacted Lai, the Activities Director at Pacifica, to set up FaceTime with my mother. Lai was very accommodating. She makes it possible for me to connect with my mother on FaceTime weekly, while lockdown is in place. Lai is very caring. She communicates often and keeps me in the loop, about current events, vaccines and activities that my mother is interested and involved in. Thank you Lai! My dad had been at Pacifica Senior for over a year. It took him awhile to adjust to the senior living but I must say Lai had helped him along with being more active by participating in activities by keeping him engaged and active. She gets a 5 Star. Delma has also been super helpful and nice and treats him like family and this is so important to us that he feels like he's at a good home with extended family. She gets a 5 Star. I stopped by Pacifica senior living center to see a friend, as I was passing through town and found her happily engaged in a bingo game in the front area. I was greeted very kindly by the receptionist and was impressed with the energy of the young woman who was leading the group in the bingo activity.. My friend as well as all participating seemed to thoroughly be enjoying themselves. Having once been a volunteer in a senior living center calling bingo I know how much these folks thoroughly enjoy that activity. I was also impressed with the cleanliness, attractiveness and welcoming feeling of the building as well as the location. I would definitely recommend this as a place to check out if you're looking for care for someone in your life. read more

Pacifica Senior Living is a facility that functions more like a community, working to ensure the best possible care for the residents. As a volunteer who works with many of the seniors, I see first-hand how the staff goes above and beyond to keep them happy and active, from making their beds to organizing social events. While the facility itself feels very upscale, with elegant furniture, beautiful and sun-lit common areas, and full-service dining, it is clear that Pacifica's main focus is resident care. The staff is both incredibly professional and maintains a personal touch, treating everyone like a friend, not just a resident. My experience with Pacifica Senior Living is stimulated by getting my Uncle placed in this living facility in the month of May 2018. For the first time in his life, my uncle was in a situation where he could not live on his own and was on the mend from a rehabilitation facility stay. At Pacifica Senior Living He has adjusted well and vastly improved in the areas of his health, mentally and spiritually. He just overall feels so much better about himself and this community of support. There is a wide range of social activities available, three meals a day, day trips, and a medical staff which monitors his meds and doctors appointment. We are extremely happy with the staff, facility and overall care for the whole person by all the staff of the Pacifica Senior Living facility in the city of San Leandro. Pacifica is trying to address some of its problems. Still the biggest problem is limited number of caretakers. The ones they have are very good. Two highlights of improvements are Lai, Activities Director and the new Bus Driver, I apologize for not having his name. Over the past year, Lai has added many more activities that engage the residents to socialize and move more. She has really brightened the lives of many residents with activities. The Bus Driver engages with everyone, always is helpful and whenever he takes the residents out he tells them about local history and the area. He also seems to help a lot around the building. I have had a fantastic experience with Pacifica. I first heard of Pacifica when I found out my Aunt was living there for recovery from a nasty fall in 2014. She stayed for about 2 months and raved about it. When our family had Thanksgiving there the staff was super friendly and polite and we had a great meal and great service. When my Mother-in-Law got out of a Nursing facility but was not ready to go home yet I remembered Pacifica and we placed her there in Dec. 2014 for respite care to try it out. She loved it and we found the staff very attentive and professional. I especially received great service from the director Christina. She lived in the unit right across from my Mother-in-Law and kept an eye on her for us. Unfortunately, Christina had to leave because her permanent home was in Chico and the commute was so hard on her. Now my Brother-in-Law lives there and tells us he is very happy. He's been there since April 2015 and has no complaints about the staff, service, or the food. In fact, he is always telling us what he had for his meal and how good it was. He also enjoys that it is a smaller, cozy place and more quiet than other places. We visit him about once a week and at different times each week. We have never had a negative experience with the staff and the director Rick has been so helpful with us. I have knowledge of other facilities in the area from visits with our other relatives and friends and know some of the problems these places have. Pacifica is by far the best in the area. For those people who have had problems in the past I would recommend trying Pacifica again. The new staff is excellent. Also people, remember this is a hard job and it's hard to please everyone---especially with food likes, etc.---and you can't just put your loved one there and run off. You need to get involved and know who does what at the facility and who to go to if you have an issue. read more

My mom has live at Pacifica Senior Living for over 7 years. She had to move out of her home after a minor stroke - a very hard transition for anyone. The best thing about the facility now and then is the sincerely caring approach of all the staff who work with her. They know her well and genuinely care about her happiness and health and many of them have been with her almost the entire time she's lived there. The activities at the facility are also a highlight. Lots of variety every day and even field trips - super fun! The facility is clean and attractive and has a lovely patio where residents can get out and even do some gardening. The neighborhood offers convenient services including stores and restaurants that I can wheel my mom to easily. Emergencies have always been handled well and the communication is very good (thanks especially to the wonderful receptionist!). All in all, Mom has settled in nicely and is cared for very well. read more

Now that my Mom is safely living elsewhere I would like to post my review of this facility. I chose this place for my mother about a year ago and one of the reasons I chose it then was because of the longevity of the floor staff which to me is a good indication of employee satisfaction. Since that time it has been a revolving door. No continuity, little or no communication to residents and family. No one (management) stays more than 3 months - it's a joke. All of the long time employees are gone except one. But that wasn't the real problem. We had male staff walking in on my mom while she was using the bathroom, falls and other events were not reported to family, elevator went out so residents had to stay and receive their meals in their rooms all day, rent was increasing even with poor service, the list goes on. I came in one afternoon to find out that they had sent my Mom to the hospital the NIGHT BEFORE. They said that they left messages for us. We never received any messages AND there was no attempt to reach us since the time they took her to the hospital until the time we showed up 20 hours later! Apparently she had a stroke and was not feeling well all day and they didn't decide to call an ambulance until the evening. I showed up at the hospital to find my Mom confused and wondering where she was. No one from the facility even came to check on her! From the time she went into the hospital until I called for a meeting with the ED there was no communication from them nor did they make any attempt to find out her status. They pretended to know what was going on AFTER I told the floor staff what was happening when I came to pick up some clothes. The ED said she was not the ED when this happened, but she was. Regardless, that is no excuse. As the ED you should be kept informed what the status of your residents especially if there is a medical incident. After meeting with the current ED to share our concerns we decided that it was not a safe environment for our mother to return to. When you have management changing every 3 months, quality of food taking a serious downward trend (Mom thought hospital food was great in comparison), communication practically non-existent between family and staff not properly educated, it's time to move on. read more
