I was a little bit early this spring, the flowers are just starting to come out! My guess is two weeks from now it's going to pop. You do not want to come out here and hike in the summer, it's got the name Hellhole Canyon for a reason. It gets dangerously hot and there is no guarantee that anyone's going to rescue you. You can put together a monster hike in this canyon. I've done it twice over 10 miles with an ass blaster of a climb. But today I did the shorter loop which is 5.25 miles. It's got everything, views, climbing and descending and varied terrain! We rarely see anybody out here but today we actually passed three small groups on the trail. You can tell that a lot of people use the trails also with horses because we saw some horse poop and in the distance we could hear horse whinnies- so cute!!! Another bonus is at this trailhead. There are two pit toilets that are the nicest pit toilets I have ever been in. The people that maintain this canyon do an excellent job. They are always clean, stocked with toilet paper and have hand sanitizer. I will 100% be back to this trail, possibly in two weeks! If you're going to do it, I highly recommend downloading the AllTrails app and following the trail as marked. No way you'll get lost.

I rode mountain bikes out there with a couple of my girlfriends today. The trails are really fun, not too technical for bikes. Some absolutely beautiful view points especially along Boulder Loop. Unfortunately, we were moving too fast to stop and take a photo there, but we did get a selfie in front of the lake! There are porta potties at the parking lot and there are also some little bathroom houses inside the park. No running water though so be prepared with your hand sanitizer if you're planning to use it.

After some quick research on Yelp, we made our reservations (VERY easy to do) and met everyone on said Saturday at the Black Swan dock. (side note - they want you there 20 minutes early...this does NOT mean you can check in 20 minutes early...chances are very high that the person checking you in is your gondolier, and he/she will be on the water at that moment). We had Conner (VERY traditional Italian name....cough) - and he was awesome. He shared some great details as we made our way along the shoreline, including some of the local nicknames for the houses on the water. He was VERY knowledgeable about when the lake was created, the various depths, and gave us tips on when to avoid being on the water (July 4th was high on that). We brought along our own drinks and snacks, and thoroughly enjoyed our ride. Highly recommended!

We were a group of three that booked the Pala Chief mine for January 11th. It was a long trip from…read moreSan Jose, but it was so worth it; we found so many tourmalines! The drive up to the Pala Chief dig site was not too difficult. Our tesla with a low suspension could do it. The tutorial from the staff was quick, and the 4 hour dig time was definitely enough. By the end it got really hot; so definitely bring a hat and a lot of water. It had rained a couple days before, so we found a bunch of tourmalines on the surface. My best find was a 50 gram blue cap pink tourmaline that I found near the top of the mountain. Found a bunch of pinks, some greens, some blue ones, and a bunch of large quartz pieces.

Perfect to be on a mountain top in the sunshine sifting through rocks and hunting for gems. The Oceanview mine works in finding a number of different quartz, Tourmoline, and other gems. Take a look at their website. For $75 for an adult, you get all the equipment that you need to sift through rock and gravel piles which they set out for you. There are a big tables, the two grades of sorters, a bucket, trowel, and toothbrush to clean off rocks. Also a big tray of water to rinse your rocks in and clean them off. There were igneous rocks with black tourmaline and tiny pieces of garnet. It was a lot of fun. You have to get there promptly at the opening time in order to get situated and the digging/sorting/sifting begins sharp at 10 AM. You have three hours and 45 minutes to go through all the rocks that you want. Bring your own gloves! They also have shaded umbrellas, and 5 gallon buckets to purchase that you can load up with rocks to sift through on your own at home. While it was a fun adventure, and I've never been to a quarry mine that you could actually look for your own gems, the staff did leave a little to training, although they were very good about going around and assisting you. However, I think if you really want to find something, you need to educate yourself ahead of time as to what you are looking for and what is available. Five minute presentation to 50 people wouldn't you can't even really look at the rocks and no handout or guide sheet for reference was a drawback. They don't take credit cards for the entrance. You have to pay cash. Children are a lower price. But they do take credit cards for memorabilia, gemstones that they have turned into jewelry and other items. And also for the rentals. I thought the purchasing of a 5 gallon bucket for $10 was too much. They don't make it clear that if you want to take home a 5 gallon bucket of extra stones to sort through then you can bring your own. I thought for the price of $75 a 5 gallon bucket would be included. They are not. There are picnic tables in the shade where you can have your own lunch, there is a grill you can use if you want to utilize that. Bring all of your own beverages, water, and snacks and meal. There is a short tour that you can take of the areas that they mine on this mountain. You load up on a four wheel vehicle that holds six people and spin around the mountainside, stopping at the entrance of three of the mine shafts. This is only about a 5 to 7 minute tour. They don't allow you to stop get out and take pictures in front of the mine openings. This was certainly a drawback. They could've extended the "tour" to let you get out and take pictures in front of the mine shafts. Perhaps it is a liability issue I don't know. I would not do this for a second time since I've already done it, without further educating myself about gem hunting and what exactly I was looking for. But for a one time adventure, it was fun and we had a beautiful spring day. Don't forget your sunblock and sunglasses and hat!

We recently planned a family trip to Big Bear and booked a tour with Big Bear Zipline for a very…read morespecial celebration involving multiple family birthdays. Unfortunately, due to a mistake on our end when marking our calendar, we missed our original booking date. We absolutely acknowledged and took full responsibility for the error, and respectfully reached out to Big Bear Zipline to explain the situation and see what options were available to salvage the experience. As shown in the attached screenshots, we approached the situation kindly, respectfully, and understanding that businesses must balance policies with customer service. We shared that we were not asking for a free experience, but simply hoped for some understanding given the circumstances and the significant payment we had already made. Despite our efforts to find a middle ground, the business remained firm, reiterating that although they "have compassion," they would not accommodate further without additional payment. While we respected their right to enforce their policy, the interaction felt very transactional, and sadly did not reflect the spirit of hospitality we had hoped for when planning a meaningful family trip. We received one email when we purchased the tickets two months ago and one phone call 10 minutes before our scheduled reservation. In the end, it may have been a blessing in disguise. We explored other activities around Big Bear that felt incredibly welcoming, fun, and family-oriented -- experiences that created beautiful memories we will cherish for a lifetime. We share this review not out of anger, but to offer honest feedback: mistakes happen, and sometimes, a little flexibility and kindness could leave a much bigger, positive impact on families looking to create lasting memories.

At no point did I ever feel in danger and everything was run very smoothly and most importantly fun. There's a pouch that you're given that attaches to the harness, so you can bring your phone and take pics/vids. Loved that I had a secure place for my phone. Bathrooms and water are available at the main office as well as the basecamp before you get harnessed up, so you don't have to worry about bio issues.

Highly recommend taking a tour with Sidecar tours!!…read more My husband had been looking at this activity for a long time. He had found it through Groupon. Riding a sidecar in the middle of Temecula while being dropped off at several wineries without having to drive sounded like a unique and fun activity. By the time he was able to purchase it, only the cocktail tour was available. While we usually prefer cocktails, we found out after the fact that those start at 4:00pm and only Mon-Thurs. It didn't sound too fun to drive an hour away on a weekday in traffic to begin and come home late, but we wanted to check it out. A few days before our event was going to take place, the business called me to inform me that they are no longer doing cocktail tours at this time and were trying to get it off Groupon until the businesses working with them were more cooperative with pricing. While I was not thrilled about the last minute change, I was relieved because a big storm was coming the next day (never fails) and it would have been canceled anyway. I also didn't know until after that you mainly ride through Old Town and would not get nearly the amount of sidecar riding. However, they offered to change it to the wine tour and were able to squeeze us in three days later on the weekend so it worked out perfectly. Weather was on our side this time. It was bright and sunny. Bryan, our tour guide and driver texted me the morning of and gave us instructions on where to meet, and the waiver to sign, and that he would also be our professional photographer this day. It turns out Bryan was juggling three parties that day and was constantly on the go moving each party to the next stop. He introduced himself and explained what we would be doing and which wineries we would be visiting. He took a few pictures in the beginning and his phone may as well have been a professional camera! We first started with a fun ride throughout parts of Temecula and through a vineyard (literally!) as well. We got on one main road and went very fast! He gave us a lot of facts about Temecula and the vineyards as we rode. Our first stop was at Chapin winery where we were provided with six tastings of our choosing. I loved every selection! The pizza they made there smelled amazing, but we were full from breakfast (another time for sure!) Bryan explained that if we did want to eat pizza, please order it right away so it had time to cook and be eaten before he came back. He left us to be to relax and enjoy our wine while he took the previous group he had dropped off to the second winery. He texted me when he was on his way back to us and so we could get ready and whatnot. Once he arrived, we hopped back into the sidecar and got an even longer tour of the city and areas and had a longer time to enjoy the next sidecar ride. We stopped by some of the nearby animals such as llamas and he told us facts about the trees in their yard and about them, followed by some facts of the mountains and nearby homes and stopped for those views. Next we were brought to Bella Vista winery and were provided a full bottle of wine! We sat and relaxed and had some more wine while enjoying the views. The party before us was brought back to the starting point. Bryan took some more pictures and we brought the remaining wine back with us. It ended up being a perfect, sunny, great weather day and the business was great the whole time. Bryan was an amazing tour guide and photographer and we highly recommend him. A number of our friends are already considering trying this tour out after hearing about it and seeing the pictures.
