    Dixon Lake

A Hidden Gem for Fishing in San Diego County I've been fishing at Dixon Lake for 17 years--it's one of the most peaceful and productive fishing spots in Southern California. The lake is beautiful, the water is well-stocked, and it's perfect for both seasoned anglers and families. I've caught some amazing trout here over the years. That said, it's kind of funny how the "world record" largemouth bass legend still hangs over this place. Props to the catch, but some folks here act like they personally landed it every day. The fishing's great--you don't need the ego trip to enjoy it. Overall, Dixon is a gem. Bring your gear, enjoy the view, and let the fish do the talking.

The bathrooms are clean. They close the entrance to the campgrounds at dusk. A ranger patrols the area at night. They are very helpful. We saw a big rat in our camp. We didnt see any raccoons or squirrels. There is fishing and picnic areas during the day.

Dixon Lake is my go-to camping spot for a quick getaway. Site 10 is my favorite for its shade and partial views of the lake and city of Escondido. It also feels secluded from other sites, which is nice. There are a number of hiking trails and a few playgrounds away from the campgrounds. I like that day use visitors aren't allowed in the campground area. No wood fires are allowed, the grill ring is for charcoal only.

Dixon Lake is truly a beautiful place to go to relax and unwind ! It's really beautiful to find some peace and serenity:)

    Our 1st night of 2, Site#45

What an amazing experience! I wish I had selected site 45 for the two nights but when I decided to add more nights it was unavailable. If you like listening to birds, don't mind the bees and want semi privacy through the evening then this site would be it. Our 2nd night was at 38 and with kids nearby it was rather noise and I was concerned about privacy. , it also didn't feel like camping because the view is well of the city you're just above oh and the cars/motorcycles going by. Def coming back and staying at 45 for the future! Additional sites are great! The staff at the concessions are incredibly friendly and helpful. I appreciate them even giving us the pass so when we came back late from a music event we wouldnt run into any trouble getting back in. Which, happened as she mentioned the campground is well managed all hours the guy stopped us to check our information and was informed from earlier personnel of our circumstances. Otherwise, it might have been rather hard getting to our site. Oh and the showers were great! I just wish a roach wasn't camped out. other campers left food for the pests. (watch out for that) Thanks everyone and we look forward to coming back!

This lake has always been a haven for me. Although it is a small lake there are many places to explore and enjoy. Dixon lake is right off of El Norte Parkway with plenty of parking outside and inside of the park you have many opportunities to explore this small nature park. There are many hiking trails, fishing docks and hidden areas to relax and unwind. One of my favorite things to do is to rent a paddle boat (renting the boat is $15 with a $15 deposit that is returned to you when you return the boat within the hour). It is best to find a partner to share the work but a single peddaler is fine. It is a workout though! Plus, remember to bring sunscreen and a hat. The lake is normally tranquil during the week. Monday thru Friday you can park inside for free. On the weekends there is a $5.00 charge.

Great for Hiking, Camping and get togethers at one of their many covered picnic/grill areas. With all the rain this season, it's been incredibly beautiful. The trail systems are for every level ex: short/long, flat/steep, paved/gravel, etc. There are multiple points of entry, it's worth getting a map and exploring everything here. One of Escondido/San Diego's best recreation sites.

Went here with my girlfriend for our first camping trip and had a blast. It was a short trip to test out the new gear and we were pleasantly surprised at how great out campsite was overall. They provide a picture and short video of each site on the reservation website so you can make sure you'll be happy with your choice before you reserve. Ours was clean, private, relatively quiet, and people were respectful of quiet hours around us. Had a great little view of the lake and cooked ourselves a nice dinner before. Definitely a fun little place to feel like you're getting out of the city. We'll definitely be back to do a little fishing and camping trip...I saw a good amount of people cleaning some decent sized trout when I was checking in. Highly recommend checking this place out for the day or for a little camping trip.

Absolutely beautiful place to spend your day. Amazing lake that you can fish in, with a permit, and small boats to rent. No swimming allowed. Several camping spots to rent and clean restrooms. $5 to park inside the gates but many people park outside and walk in.

First time being at this lake, and it is absolutely lovely lots of ducks, fishing, picnic areas, parks, very quiet and peaceful and calm. At least the day we went might be a little more active during the summer. I can see this being a popular summer spot. If you're an outdoorsy person that likes to go hiking, and seeing nature and being part of the wilderness, without being too far away from the city life, this is a good spot to check out with a beautiful lake.

Can you tent/car camp? If not, know of anywhere you can.?.

Yes, they do offer tent sites at their campground. I have seen people car camp there as well.

The bathrooms were relatively clean. The showers need more hooks to hold your stuff. Showers run on tokens. One token gives you two minutes. The water gets hot fast and the pressure is good. Tokens are two for $1.00 at the main entrance. It is ridiculously difficult to get a reservation. Jump on-line six months in advance and keep at it. Calling usually yields very little success. Their website had a few pictures of what it looked like. So wife and I took a chance and decided to book a 3 night 4 day stay. The day before our reservation we went to just check it out, just to get a feel of what it looked like and man were we very pleasantly surprised. Met the proprietors and explained we booked a reservation for the next day. Not paying attention to the website I booked a room in the bunk house. Scott and Marla upgraded us to one of the tents. We 2ere so glad they did. We arrived around 2 pm on the day of our reservation and were immediately greeted by Scott and Marla they were very gracious and even assisted in unloading and moving coolers and luggage to the tent. Got to the tent and man was I surprised... queen sized bed with dresser and night stands. If I hadn't known better I'd have said it was a very upscale hotel room... carpeted floor nice deck with gas fire pit and nice nostalgic cooler with water and ice all set up. After conversing with the proprietors they gave us a quick tour of the grounds. Was amazed by the grounds and to hear Scott talk he has amazing plans for the rest of the grounds. Could tell he loved what he was doing. We got checked in and made our way to the tent. As we understood it there was to be 2 more couples arriving the same day. We later found out the other couples cancelled and we were the only GLAMPERS on the site. Not complaining was great. So after unpacking it was chill time. My wife took a nice 3 hour nap and I seriously enjoyed the view, the nice breeze and couple of adult cocktails and took in the solitude of the surroundings. That night and every night we stayed, I slept like a rock. Was so comfortable and quiet it was great. The doves cooing in the morning, the coyotes and owls at night. It was a world away right in our own backyard. I am definitely going to book here again. Scott and Marla were very gracious and accommodating host and hostess. I like the fact it is adults only 18 and up. No kids or pets. If you're looking for a nice adult get away this is definitely a place to go. Only thing negative and given the current pandemic situation can't call it a negative since it was circumstances beyond their control, was the restaurant was closed and they are not sure when they'll be able to reopen but the did have a BBQ area. Which we utilized last 2 nights there.
