The building was built in the early 1990's, and the lobby/entry area looks like it was last renovated in the 50's or 60's. We bought a groupon for our birthday and confirmed no appointment was necessary prior to coming out from Anaheim. It was mentioned this is a first come first serve so we chose to come when the marketplace opened at 11am. After waiting 15 minutes we decided to call to make sure that the "class" would be happening as we were advised its best to come when they open. After asking when the hours were she explained the hours of the marketplace and said she would be there within 20 minutes. I was asked if we had an appointment i explained we were told we didn't need one and was told pointedly "the sooner I can get off the phone the sooner I can get there (talking over me while I was trying to explain there's no worries, apologizing for the interruption) so sorry for the inconvenience." (Sarcastically) And hung up on me. Clearly this person doesn't need the business or the money and that's fine...you do you but I would suggest if you make your own hours, don't care about kindness or your customers schedule and your day will dictate how you treat people, you should probably disclose that somewhere on your website or storefront...seems more important to know than instructions on how to fuse glass-I would've just bought a kit and figured it out.

Of course, you need to bring your favorite special tools but the basic ones are provided. Towels, basic molds, plenty of sinks and wedging tables, work tables galore, slab roller and an excellent glazing studio. They provide beautiful cone 10 glazes. Great people to work with and you are surrounded by excellent potters along with beginners and intermediates.

She had heard of this gallery from years ago. Apparently they had moved to a new location. And then into a smaller space in this location than they had been in. Who knew?? It was close to 6pm and she heard someone talking to the (?) owners inside. They apparently weren't sympathetic that this guy didn't know exactly what their business was, as they were once an art gallery, but now full of antiques or something. And they made sure he knew they were ABOUT TO CLOSE! Well my friend and I certainly aren't going to visit them. And who chases out a potential customer at the beginning of a 1st Thursday where there is an ART WALK SPONSORED BY THE CHAMBER!!!!!????

Vintage/historic buildings abound in this area of galleries, and I find them at least as impressive as the shops they house. Almost all the businesses in this area hold an open house on the first Thursday of each month. 1st Thursday artwalk is well-attended & a great way to spend an evening.

The "25th Street Mural Project" is the brainchild of artist Julie Bender (not her first mural in the area but one of the largest). Nearing completion, it's evolved into what appears to be a labor of love for the artist, working volunteers, and the entire community. After reading about the project for months in local newspapers, I had to go see it yesterday. All at once it's spectacular, heartwarming, and informative. Spectacular in concept & creation. Heartwarming because it's adorned with local residents' personalized, hand-decorated tiles. Informative, displaying San Pedro's very rich history as well as historic landmarks & attractions. The mural is on a retaining wall that runs along 25th Street (can't miss it). The lengthy process of obtaining permissions, amending an ordinance, securing permits & funding, is explained in detail on the artist's website. The planning & prep for the mural, followed by placement of custom tiles along with donated random glass & ceramics, etc. began over a year ago according to a volunteer I was fortunate to encounter during my visit. LynnDee told me all about the tile-making process, the use of colors, the layout & design, and more. Certainly no small challenge, but so worth everyone's efforts. Soon, she said, the sky will be added. Then grout will be applied which should make the artistry pop even more than it does now. I regret that I didn't get around to taking advantage of the "make your own tile" opportunity, which has ended. Although I don't live in San Pedro I certainly do appreciate the city's unique & interesting treasures, all of which are proudly represented on the mural wall. I did make a small contribution, however, by heading over to The Corner Store to buy a t-shirt that reads "Making History On 25th Street". This is certainly true. All proceeds from t-shirt sales go to help cover costs of materials. I personally think this mural is a masterpiece & predict it will be another major tourist attraction for San Pedro (judging from the groups of people there yesterday it already is, the reason I decided it was not premature to post a review). It's whimsical, delightful & one of the coolest works of art I've seen. I couldn't stop smiling the entire time I was there. So to Julie Bender especially, as well as everyone involved: big congrats on your accomplishment! Well done.
