Friendly prompt service, the food is like an "El Torito", kind of like Americanized Mexican food. I had a fajita taco salad - the meat pieces were small, not what I'm used to. The taste was fine. Husband had seafood soup; it was ok but he had to ask for cilantro to get some flavor into it. We received no salsa that should have come with the chips, only received what we paid for, the quesadilla had no ground beef and was TINY (for $8) and the Jalisco had barely any queso. San Pedro has been my "go to" Mexican restaurant in Kearney for over 15 years. Located in the heart of Kearney, it's immensely popular, with an enormous menu of regional Mexican favorites. San Pedro stays pretty close to following authentic recipes found south of the border, but with a nod to local American tastes. The menu has everything from enchiladas, burritos, tortas and tacos to seafood dishes, molcajetes y mucho más. Services is fast and friendly. The restaurant has both a large indoor dining area as well as plentiful outdoor seating. They have a full bar at reasonable prices. The only thing I won't recommend are the margaritas, but they still seem popular. Even the desserts are delicious, if you somehow manage to save room. The restaurant is bright and attractive but casual attire is the norm for customers. Prices are low, and there is ample free parking in their lot, or overflow just across the street. If you love authentic Mexican food you won't be disappointed. read more

AVOID WHEN BUSY, Service goes down hill quickly and it gets uncomfortably crowded even quicker. I had good memories of eating here years ago when I still lived in the state, so I thought it would be a good idea to have lunch with family in the area when I flew back to visit. When drinks were brought out, the server spilled a full soda all over the table, but mostly all over my uncle. Accidents happen, but when the server throws us a rag and expects our table to clean up his mistake and doesn't even offer to move us to a readily empty table, that was when the service became unacceptable. The server literally asked my uncle why he didn't clean up the wet floor with the rag he hastily threw at my uncle when he returned to take our order. It took every inch of my being not to toss my drink in his face at that point. So we ate in a sticky mess, and the little family time that I could afford to spare this year was ruined by it. The disrespect and disregard was unbelievable and I'm still mad and embarrassed by it four months later. I will never give this establishment another dime, and you shouldn't either. read more

San Pedro has become a lunch time hot spot in Kearney. It has pretty good food but the service can be very frustrating. The parking is very cramped and often overflows across the street. The atmosphere it's typical Mexican, nothing special. The service was incredibly slow even though the place was half capacity. The Patron margarita wasn't too good but I've had worse. The chimichanga was the highlight of my visit and the prices were competitive. Overall, I might go back for Mexican flavor but there are better places in Kearney. read more

Mediocre food and shoddy service. Ate here twice. First time was for lunch. The food was passable and the service was prompt in a lunch place get-em-in and get-em-out sort of way. When I returned for dinner several weeks later, the guy who would be my waiter was on my side of the counter with his back to me, talking to the host. When I told the host I was "for here", the waiter, without turning around or acknowledging me, took a menu and walked to the table between two occupied tables (one of which was very loud) and tried to seat me there. Since the restaurant was nearly empty, I asked to sit at a quieter table and I moved. I ordered the carnitas, which were disappointing. They weren't nice and tender, nor did they have the nice caramelized bits that make carnitas so wonderful. They were also too salty and I'm a big fan of salt. When I wanted some hot salsa, I gave up on waiting for my waiter to come check on me and I hunted him down and found him sitting in a booth, playing with his phone. By that time, another waiter had seen me and I asked him for the salsa instead of my waiter. By the time I was done eating, I couldn't wait to get out of there. Between the bad food and horrible service, I was so done with this place, I couldn't pay my bill and get out fast enough. It was OK, the meat was pretty tough in some spots which i can tolerate from a cheap cut of beef, but the flavoring wasn't where I thought it should be... Being from Texas, it is hard to find Mexican food here in the Midwest that really measures up to many of establishments back home, but we figured it was worth a shot. The restaurant was clean, and the staff was courteous if not particularly outgoing. For a Friday night, it was not very crowded. Chips and salsa, of course, are brought out; the salsa, alright, if somewhat a little strangely sweet and almost no heat; the chips, clearly the cheapest money can buy. I ordered Nachos Fajitas, which were actually pretty good (besides the chips). My wife ordered cheese enchiladas, but was brought beef, which my wife ate anyway even though they offered to correct the error. They were so- so at best. Overall, I'd say tolerable, okay, ... fairly unspectacular, but again, there are not a lot of options around as far as Mexican food. read more

For Kearney NE this is the BEST Authentic Mexican food your going to find! You can find anything from the mild to the extremely hot! The flavor is never bad, and the food is always home cooked. No microwave here! It is a bit crowded, but that is because they sectioned off the middle for privacy; which I think is a plus. They do have outside seating, and the service there is usually pretty good. Chips are brought out as well as salsa. The chips are sub-par, but the salsa is always good (not to hot, and not mild; not sure where the sweet flavor is, never tasted that). I ended up eating here both nights of my Kearney visit. I had the Carne Asada tacos, margarita, presidente margarita and a few Negro Modelos. Fantastic food and service. The chile verde (pork) and chile rellenos are outstanding. We stopped here on the way back to Colorado from the East Coast and were extremely happy. You'd think most Mexican restaurants would be able to make good chips and salsa, but San Pedro truly does them right. Light touch of cumin in the salsa ads an extra touch.
