So everybody had been talking about this is the latest place in Loredo right now. We did have a reservation, which was good cause when we got there, there was a large party for a Monday and the place is really tiny. The inside is whatever there's nothing special about it looks like any other place. Our waiter was so nice. He went above and beyond for us. We started with the escargot and I have to say it was OK. It was a little bland. It definitely was missing more flavor to it and it was weird that it didn't come with bread or anything. We also got the tuetano with beef tartar on top of it. It was a huge disappointment. The bone had not been cooked completely and was very fiber and the beef tartar just tasted really off pudding just like raw meat instead of it bean seasoned and marinated the way it should be. We had to send it back for it to get cooked for the bone and when they brought it back, it was still the same thing so they ended up removing it from our check. After this, I did get a cup of the asparagus soup and I have to say that was really nice. Then I got the American ribeye since they were out of the Argentina ribeye which is a disappointment. I had asked for a medium. It came cooked more than medium and it was weird how light colored it was and it just tasted like a typical steak nothing really special to it. The baked potato was whatever. Now the portobello mushrooms and wine sauce that was really delicious. I don't think I would come back here just cause there was nothing really special about it. Also, I hate to say this, but I did eat a little bit of that beef tartar to try it and I'm assuming that's what upset my stomach cause the next day, I was not well. read more

Good location for this steakhouse behind border foundry. Plenty of parking. Atmosphere is nice, decor of the place was really good. Servers are friendly and well dressed, this is a high end spot. Table bread was good, came with chimmichurri and butter, it was good. So good in fact that they asked me if I wanted another bread, and I said of course. What they failed to mention is that they charged $5 for the bread, wasn't expecting that at all. No one advised me of that but alright. We ordered a shrimp with oil dish, cooked in a cast iron, this was outstanding! Great flavor, came with 6 pieces of shrimp and came out on a hot cast iron pan. Highly recommend. I ordered a 15 oz picahna and my wife ordered 12 oz American ribeye. The ribeye was thin, but cooked well. However they failed to season the steak. The picahna was cooked okay, also poorly seasoned. When you think of picahna , you think of the fat cap, tell me why my picahna did not have any fat cap on it? They carved out the fat! I mean cmon man, you're an Argentinian steakhouse and you do that, that is blasphemy. Then they cut my steak, let it bleed out on the plate. Is this their first time or what? Leave the steak whole, like my wife's ribeye. The second saddest steak I've eaten. The worst one was a ribeye I had at Otillias. Steak came with steak fries and they were okay. My wife's baked potato wasn't fully cooked either Overall this place missed the mark and for paying $115 for two people before tip, you're better off grilling your own steaks for a lot less. I paid $40 for the picahna and $39 for my wife's steak. I wanted to give this place 3 stars but that bs bread move left me upset. I honestly think if you're looking for a decent steak, save yourself some money and go to Texas or Longhorns steakhouse. read more

Hit the road again and stopped in Laredo. I really wanted a great steak after being on the road for hours and working. Someone recommended this place to me and decided to finally give it a try. Walking in I thought it was beautiful and a little upscale. I went just before 5 PM and the place was pretty empty and no one was at the bar, so that's where I sat. I was greeted immediately by my waiter who offered water & handed me the menu. I was looking for a ribeye and saw two. An American version and an Argentinian version. I asked what the difference was and from what I understood American has more marble and the other was more organic and lean. I chose American, cooked Medium. I also ordered a side Caesar's salad and baked potato. I do wish they had more options for sides with the steak. It was either the potato, french fries, and a salad (not Caesar). A vegetable would have been nice to choose from, but I went with the options they had. Didn't want to be difficult. lol I received my food and immediately thought it looked sad. IMO, the steak REALLY needed some seasoning. I don't know... it was OK, but considering the prices at this place and the vibe, I expected WAY better. Maybe (big maybe), I'd try again. Maybe try something else on the menu, but not too sure. Honestly, my partner makes better ribeyes on his cast iron at home. If I'm in the area again and decide to give them another try, I promise to give an update. I will say that service was great! My waiter was so nice and attentive and answered any questions I had. Service was attentive. I had the salmon (I know, not a smart move at a steakhouse). It was ok, but I have had better at Applebees. Overall meal was 3 stars (sorry, but if you are going to have salmon on menu it should be better). My two biggest complaints were at end of meal. 1) the waiter brought check and let me know he had already added tip. Funny, the bottom of the ticket says "tables of 6 or more are subject to an 18% gratuity". I was in a party of 2 and he self added 21% on the check. Hmmm. Well, I generally leave 25-30%....but that ticked me off so I just left at 21%. 2) this restaurant isn't cheap, yet charges 3% add on for using credit cards (cmon, nobody pays cash here, just change the menu price if you want more) This was my 2nd visit to San Telmo. I usually don't post reviews but in this case it's different. First of all service was very slow. It took over 30 mins just to get a menu and was only given 2 menus for a group of 10. Pretty upscale inside. Real ceramic plates, metal utensils, cloth napkins . Exotic music playing in the background at an appropriate volume. Inside is a lot of dark wood, etched glass, and elegant chairs and tables. Quite a nice ambience. Ordered a ribeye with salad and asparagus. Seemed a bit pricey for my expense report, hope I don't go over my daily allowance as I had a $20 lunch. Lol Salad was very good, bread was served with butter, an oil sauce with herbs in it and chicken pâté. Very good. Dining room had the aroma of a wood fired grill, smelled very good. Think it's my steak cooking! Some of the other reviews complained of steaks dry, flavorless , mine was neither. Very tender moist and full of flavor. Asparagus was also not tough or stringy, cooked just right. Meal cost with a glass of wine was: $ 52. I asked for water and received bottled water that they charged $5 for (ouch). Upon arrival, this place looked lovely. However, as we got seated, we looked at a half empty restaurant for our waiter who had us waiting for 20 mins for menus. After offering us water, he jumped straight to the entrees - no drinks! It was such a shame that the waited couldn't even talk to us in English. We understand it's a border town but in an upscale restaurant where the plates are nearly $40, I expect better. We were offered French fries with the food! Are we in McDonalds?! Food came out and what a disappointment. The churrasco was really dried out chuck steak. The Halibut fish was like plastic on acidic mushrooms. And, the Entraña was dripping blood; we asked for well down. It was terrible and the service was bad. The waiter had us waiting, empty glasses, and was too busy to care for us. I understand that this is a high end restaurant and rightfully so, but if you aren't a high end individual the service will be shown. As we sat down we had been given the wine menu, as I have been sober over 2 years I do not drink. But seems the server took it as I couldn't afford it, so his demeanor drastically changed. Asked for bread said it'll be right out wasn't given to us, to get refills on our drinks had to stop him as he would pass by us on his way to the bar, thankfully we were seated in that path. Never once just checked in the way he would at the higher end customers. Good is great I will not deny, but if your someone who saved and scrapped for a special night and don't have over 6 figures in your account stay away. We wanted to try something different and stay away from the typical large restaurant chains. My family (husband, 2 sons age 5 &3) all enjoyed the restaurant. We got there at about 7. We were seated promptly and we had no idea it was a classy place. They didn't mind our small kids and they accommodated us all. The server answered my million questions on the menu items and they were able to customize my order. The food was delicious. I had chicken fettuccine Alfredo(not on menu) husband had a salmon and the kids had handmade chicken tenders and fries. Very disappointing experience. The place in nice and elegant, and the wait staff makes an effort, but they come short, way short. The waiter never ask me how I wanted our steaks, but I was confident an Argentinian restaurant will never cook a steak wrong. Well, all of steaks were way over done. I showed the hard steak to my waiter and he said: "you order your steak medium", which was a lie, I ask him to show me the note that stated so, and he did not. The quality of the steaks is not Prime, as it should be, for what one is being charged. Just a glance at the meat being served and you can tell this is HEB quality meat, the cheap one. No french fries, again, Argentinian steaks are served with fries, but not even as a side dish. The kitchen has a see thru window were one can see them cooking. Two of the cooks gave me mean looks, as if they knew what they were doing. Come on, though dudes, I suppose, of course from afar. As soon as I looked at them they went away, like real cowards. I will ask a simple question to any future customers, if the place is "Argentinian" who is from that country there. I cannot believe anybody from that country will allow to serve steak as hard as shoes soles. I have eaten in Buenos Aires, in some of the best places that city offers, our experience in San Telmo was quite bad. I predict this place lasting a few more months and disappearing into oblivion soon. Will never be back !!! read more

Average. The food is good and the quality of the beef is very nice but I felt that it was very simple. I wouldn't say the food is bad because that would be a lie but it wasn't creative enough to earn the fourth star. It is what you would find at a typical run of the mill Buenos Aires Parrilla. I had the artichokes, morcilla, chorizo argentino, jugó de carne, bife de costilla and bife de chorizo. Everything tasted good and was cooked correctly. The bife de costilla was very salty. The restaurant is decorated very nicely and the staff is friendly but the service was a little slow, and the smell of smoke from the burning characoal did bother me a little in the beginning. If you like to eat meat on its own, this is the restaurant for you. The portions are huge and the meat is flavorful. 70/100 read more

A couple of thing to start with: 1.) I consider myself somewhat of a steak snob. 2.) I am from Houston so my options for a good steak are abundant. Naturally, I was a little hesitant to go to an upscale Argentinean Steakhouse in Laredo TX with "OK" reviews. Still, my girlfriend and I were in the mood for a good steak, so we said "Ehh, what the heck." The ambience was very elegant but not so upscale so as to make you feel like you are out of place. We were immediately greeted and sat down. I liked the detail where you were able to see the kitchen from the dining area through a large window. Very cool. I had the old fashioned, which was true to its original form, and very good. Starting with the bread. Perfect crunch on the outside with a warm soft inside. We then had an order of the beef empanadas. My goodness, those little things were amazing! For our main course, we shared the bone in ribeye and the octopus. It's hard to find an octopus that doesn't have an overwhelming "rubbery" texture. It was so good. Perfectly seasoned. The way it was finished on the grill put it over the top. The steak was seasoned with all a good piece of meat needs: Salt and pepper. I loved that. The meat was cooked so perfectly, that you could pull it apart with your fingers. It was so juicy and flavorful! Delicious! I would put this steak up against almost any steakhouse in Houston. When I sent my compliments to the chef, he came out and personally thanked us for coming out. Once we got the bill, we were surprised by how little we paid for drinks, appetizers, and two main course meals. I would highly recommend you try this place and see for yourself. Wow! We were surprised with the excellent customer service we received today (Valentine's Day) at San Telmo! The host right away took us to a table, the waiter placed our napkins on our lap, and was very attentive throughout the whole dinner! Dinner was delicious, from the asparagus soup to dessert, amazing!! Once we were leaving the waiter opened the door for us and gave me a rose. This place is good. The ambience is the best in Laredo for a very special occasion but prices just don't make sense for the location. They can still be premium without getting up there to the unreasonable menu prices you expect in California and Texas metropolitans. Nevertheless the rack of lamb was amazing and octopus grilled was average. I think the place on Delmar and Springfield is far better in that respects. Appetizers were good and so was the wait staff. Again my wife and I wouldn't return due to price but we always are up to give a place a shot. Spent a 100 dollars here and I've spent that much at other restaurants and felt it was worth it but not this place unfortunately. For Laredo this is a nice option for a special occasion but still I felt the price and value of portions to quality wasn't there but still solid food and service so 4 stars! read more

Everyone was unbelievably rude! We had a party of 6 and knew it would be a long wait so decided to go spend some $$ at the bar. I don't get to come to Laredo every year to see my family so we didn't mind talking and having some drinks while we waited. Well we waited for 35 min without even being asked for water. I ask the hostess if we are served drinks when we sit at the bar and she says Oh yes, let me go tell him to serve you! BUT, turns around and walks back to the hostess podium instead!! We all see the bartender has been very busy rolling drinks out for the tables but as soon as he starts doing the dishes and cleaning the bar, WE HAVE HAD IT!! We still have not been served anything!! My cousin finds the manager and all he said to her is that we should have made a reservation... Really? This was the manager? Managerial skills lacking here....Where is the zero star option?
