I recently got two orders of chicken biryani as takeout as a first-time customer. I would NOT RECOMMEND this food to anyone. I had called in this lunch order when the restaurant opened for the day and the chicken biryani they gave was a few days old and sitting outside, definitely not fresh. By the time I took it home and consumed it, it was smelling and tasting funny. My family was sick from eating this biryani and everyone was using the bathroom for the next two days from food poisoning. We didn't even finish it and I threw it all out. It was disgusting and one of the worst food experiences I've had. I truly would NOT RECOMMEND anyone eat food from this restaurant because they clearly will give their customers old food. It's very disrespectful and deceitful to give customers food that is old and has spoiled. My advice to anyone considering eating here: SPEND YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE. read more

Had dinner here with my husband and overall it was ok. Prices were good, but I found the food too salty. I did like the spice level though. Service was neutral. We started with the Fish Pakoras ($6.99) and then got the Chicken Biryani ($6.99) and Chicken Achar ($11.99). The Fish Pakoras were good, but much too salty for my tastes. It was white fish in spices and then deep fried. I was expecting them to have some vegetables and/or be dipped in chickpea flour like regular Pakoras or Chicken Pakoras. However, they were still ok. I would have enjoyed them much more if they were less salty. The Chicken Biryani was good especially considering the price. The spices were spot on and with just the right amount of spicy kick. I would have preferred boneless chicken, but it was still good. Although I did find a few bone shards in the dish. I personally was disappointed with the Chicken Achar. Again it was bone-in chicken and some pieces had jagged bone in them. It was more sour than Achar dishes I've had elsewhere but was pretty mild otherwise. I like that they give you a glass bottle filled with water. Service was neutral, not overly friendly, but definitely not rude or mean. I kinda get the feeling that they felt we didn't order enough food, but I was full afterwards. I think another dish would have been too much for us. The restaurant is on Crescent, but south of Ste Catherine closer to Rene Levesque, so away from the trendy part of Crescent. The area looks a bit more run down, but the inside is nice enough. Uber eats did it again it struck gold. What a great resto first time hearing about it and we really enjoyed it. Food came pretty quickly a little cold but it's Saturday night I get it. Ordered in the Beef thali for dinner through Uber Eats. It included 1 meat option, 1 vegetarian, rice, salad and nan. I chose the Beef Nihari & Chanay for approx $12. It arrived promptly, however was packaged poorly. The Nihari is meant to be eaten with Nan, however it had slid over to the rice and there was barely any left in its compartment for me to eat. The taste was average. It was good enough to curb the cravings for the night and alright for the cost of the meal. However I would not be ordering from here again, when there are many great establishments serving better quality food for the same price. read more

5 minute walk from Le Crystal Hôtel, bursting with flavor, and put a big smile on my face. If you desire Indian food, you absolutely cannot go wrong. We had the butter chicken with dark meat. Never had it like that before, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I didn't think the chicken could be that tender and juicy. The ginger chicken was made with chicken breast, wonderful ginger accentuated flavor with a slight heat to the dish. Perfectly cooked chicken. These dishes are made for sharing and if your not starving, you could share 1 dish between 2 people. You have to separately order rice or nan. We got 1 order of the rice and 2 orders of the garlic nan. I wish I didn't order rice and just doubled up on the garlic nan. If you like garlic, you will love the garlic nan. They don't hold back with the minced garlic. It is a real hole in the wall, which is where I usually find the best food. Not really that busy, but is was a Sunday night. We were there maybe an hour at the most and noticed the Uber Eats drivers were coming in every couple of minutes for pickup. I have ordered food from Sana countless times through UberEats. I tried many Indian places for delivery in my area, beside Bombay Mahal Express, Sana is my spot. We have a little family gathering, so we placed our orders through Sana directly, and went to pick up the food about 40 minutes later. Unfortunately, our orders weren't ready. They kept saying 5 minutes way to many times. The restaurant was packed, I guess that's why they were delayed. I wonder if I ordered through UberEats, would the delay be so long. Finally, the food was brought home. We had shrimp biryani, butter chicken, naan, Chana masala, baturas, poooris and halwa (desert). Despite the long waiting for our food, the taste of each dishes were blasting deliciously in our mouth that you forgive the long wait. Their Chana Masala (chickpeas curry) is the best I ever tasted in the island of Montreal. Be warned, Sana's food is unusually a bit spicer compared to some Indian restaurant. This unassuming restaurant on Crescent street is a true gem. I have walked by the restaurant all the time and one late night (9:00 pm), it's menu on the outside beckoned me. I'm happy that I finally walked into this restaurant. The staff works hard to provide good customer service to everyone. I ordered the petit mixed grill combo and a glass of mango lassie. After thinking about the reasons we were not served, I figured out that their priority was "food delivery" service. This is the first time we've been to Sana. The neighborhood is pretty dispirited. However, the inside is pretty clean and spacious. We had samosa for starter. Mixed grill and lamb karahi as main courses. The dessert was home made Kulfi, traditional Indian ice cream. I like all the dishes. The samosa came with a sauce which is quite flavorful. The grilled dish offered 3 different meats. The karahi is medium spicy to my taste but probably the most spicy dish there. The Indian spices married with flavor of lamb, the curry is so rich and intense flavored. It goes very well with rice and naan. The frozen dairy dessert Kulfi was a surprise. We both enjoyed it. The prices is inexpensive. Main course varies from 9 to 11$. I will come back for sure. read more

So delighted that Sana opened a second branch - in downtown Montreal itself. Yes it is a little off the beaten-path but hey, still way better than making the trip up to Jarry. The husband and I are big fans of the restaurant. From the many Indian Pakistani restaurants in Montreal, this has to be one of our favourites due to the food being very authentic and of good quality. Despite being a basement restaurant, it is neat and cosy with a nicer décor and ambiance than the original on Jarry. Though it was a busy Friday night when we went, the staff were all very polite and attentive. They seemed to be getting an endless amount of UberEats & JustEat orders - great for those cold winter nights. We have tried most items from the menu but our favourites will always be the Channa Samosa (delicious!) for starters and Nihari, Haleem or Lamb Karahi. Nothing better than a good old spicy curry to warm you up in freezing temperatures and to end it all with a hot cup of chai (Indian tea with spices). Their Thali is good portion and the lamp is best among chicken/beef/lamp/vegetarian..the ladies serving the food are nice and they have 25% discound after covid19. Great place! This restaurant is a little gem in the middle of Montreal. We tried samosas, a couple of lamb dishes and one chicken dish. Everything was cooked to perfection and the taste was amazing. I travel internationally at least 90+ days of the year every year and I can tell you that the food served in this little restaurant is comparable to much more expensive places in Canada and elsewhere. The person who took care of us took the time to explain the menu and was very friendly. However, they could definitely use an extra pair of hands. I have recommended this place to a couple of friends and they were both very pleased, so I will keep recommending it. read more

We chose Sana based on the many positive reviews. We were encouraged by the number of people from East Asian cultures also eating at the restaurant. The samosas were good and filling, sauce that came with them was awesome. I had chicken thali (chose butter chicken and mixed veg) tasted more like chicken cooked in tomato soup with frozen veg mix is spices! I was super disappointed in the meal. My wife had lamb thali with spinach. The cuts of meat had multiple bone fragments and the spinach was mush! The spices were good in her meal. We hoped for the ice cream - all out, booo! The staff were like maniac squirrels running around, the new guy (I felt sorry for him) was not getting any guidance about what to do to help with the busy evening. Not going back, sorry! read more
