I told them send me to Majestic Oaks or send me home for home health care. Thank God these was a vacancy and I arrived here feeling broken but alive. I had been a patient about ten years ago and I knew it was a great medical facility. This 180 bed facility treats rehab as well as memory care and Long term treatment. I am in the latter. I have healed thanks to this facility. I am 87 but I had a career of more than thirty years a a news anchor, a columnists for the Orlando Sentinel and a writing professor for 5 colleges. When I say this is the best place in the country for medical assistance, I say it with conviction. The staff is friendly, helpful and upbeat.I have the best medical care and medications . To illustrate their quest for the best service: they are in the process of refurbing 180 rooms, dining and living rooms. MY room in the last month has everything new: carpeting new bed, electric recliner, dressers and blinds. The setting appears rural but we are on a long stretch of highway with nothing but beautiful scenery, Majestic Oaks in Orange City Florida is the best place in the country for seniors who need either short or long term care can gp Carole

From Day One, the staff, nurses and techs have been helpful, kind and caring towards me and my mom. The facility is clean, beautifully decorated and does not have a bad smell, which is common in most nursing homes. I am very happy with the care and treatment that my mom is receiving at Majestic Oaks and I would highly recommend this care facility to all my friends and family.

Our family was in desperate need to find a nursing home for my mother who unexpectedly became quite…read moresick. She did not want to move from her area and we didn't want her to go to hospice or a large place. We called Summer Haven to visit and expected to have them schedule an appointment for us. Greg immediately said to come right over. The facility was less than a mile from my mom's apartment. The outside was very impressive, located in a beautiful neighborhood with plenty of parking. Greg greeted us and took us around the house, showing the kitchen, eating areas and available bedroom. We met the senior employee and appreciated that she spoke English and Spanish. (We later met the other employees and each one was fabulous) Greg walked us through the procedures, finances, requirements, care giving, etc. We liked what we saw and heard. Later that day we took our mother to visit and she also liked the facility. We moved her in the next day. Within a month, our mom was better. She had been eating and drinking and meds were being given. After taking her to her doctor, the seriousness of her illness became less serious. Now she wanted to be active again. Because Summer Haven has 6 residents, there wasn't much for her to do and she was bored. Greg purchased very nice Smart TVs for each room; he scheduled crafts and activities; he purchased fans (since mom likes cooler temps). When mom wanted to move into a different room, that happened. They moved her possessions. The room had blinds but no drapes. Greg said he would reimburse us for any drapes we wanted to buy. And he did. Because our mom was now more active, and Summer Haven is good for residents who are not very mobile, she asked us to find her a different facility. We did find her another place, but only because they had more residents (55) and more activities. Should our mom need to go back into a smaller facility, Summer Haven will be right up there.

As an out of town family member, I needed someone to take care of my elderly mother who was…read moredischarged from the ER after a fall and was returning home to live alone. Prior to her fall she was completely independent. I needed to find someone that could assist her in her home with everyday activities as she was unable to do very much for herself while recovering from the fall. In Home Health Care was ordered by the physician but did not cover the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) which are routine activities people do every day without assistance. There are six basic ADLs: eating, bathing, getting dressed, toileting, transferring, and continence. I was referred to BrightStar Care by a Social Services Case worker in the hospital. I reached out to BrightStar Care (Greater Volusia County Area of FL) to speak to someone and the Director of Operations, Masha, answered the phone and answered ALL of my questions, which were comprehensive, as I had need and experience in the past for other loved ones with these types of services. Masha arranged for her Director of Nursing, Noah, and Scheduler, Terah, to come to my mother's home and the four of us sat down together and discussed specifically what BrightStar Care could do for my mother and what our expectations of BrightStar Care were. My main concern was that I wanted to be sure that any caregivers assigned to assist my mother were not only competent but trustworthy! Masha does this type of in- home interview with her team members to determine the needs of the client as well as assess the client's physical and cognitive needs in order for Masha to best assist her, with feedback from Noah and Terah, to pair up what BrightStar Care hopes to be a good match up for both caregiver and client! Noah even went to the trouble to purchase, hand deliver and install on his own time, a hand-held shower attachment which he assured me would greatly benefit not only the assigned caregiver but my mother as well when she returned to independence! The next day, my mother was first introduced to Wendy and thoroughly enjoyed her! Because Wendy had a prior vacation planned that was to take place during the period of time my mother needed assistance, Masha assigned Katie to cover for Wendy while she was away. Katie came out on day two to assist my mom. Fortunately, I was present when Katie came to meet my mother and assist her with the plan of care that was implemented and reviewed by my mother, myself and Noah. Katie immediately began to take care of my mom like she was her own mother! What a lovely, caring spirit she displayed. I familiarized Katie with what needed to be done while my mother went to bed as she had been to her PCP that morning and was still in considerable pain. My mother's PCP ordered some x-rays for my mother and while I was with Katie and my mom, the PCP office called me later that morning and informed me that my mother needed to be taken directly to the ER again as the x-ray had revealed a life-threatening condition that required immediate intervention. I informed Katie that I was sorry and that I had to take my mom immediately to the ER. Katie, without hesitation, began to help me get my mother out of bed and into a wheelchair for transport. Katie continued to reassure my mother that everything was going to be okay! Katie ensured that should it become necessary, we collected adequate items for a possible overnight stay, for my mom. I felt so comfortable having just met Katie and seeing her caring nature and straight forward and considerate spirit, I asked Katie to remain in my mother's home and continue to do the cleaning, laundry and grocery storage we had previously discussed that needed to be done. Katie had already begun preparing a meal for my mother and stopped and cleaned up and bagged up in the freezer the remainder of the food products that needed storage. I told Katie to lock the door on her way out. Katie gave me her cell phone and asked me to keep her updated as to my mother's outcome. She was genuinely concerned for my mom. What a wonderful care giving spirit! My mother was admitted to the hospital and I no longer required the services of BrightStar Care as my mother was scheduled to discharge to a skilled nursing facility upon discharge for rehabilitation. I returned home to a cleaned up home! Even payment of the bill was simple. My mother had authorized any charges be applied to her credit card so even payment for services was effortless! I would HIGHLY recommend this company for care for a loved one should they need ADL assistance on an hourly, daily, weekly basis or even 24/7 care. They are very reasonably priced and provided superior care and services in the short time I interacted with both the team leaders and their caregivers! Thank you BrightStar Care!

"Avoid CERTUS memory care in OC. My attorney and a third party medical team found CERTUS memory…read morecare in Orange City directly responsible for the death of my father due to significant negligence over his 3+ week period of residence last summer. On June 27th 2020 my Dad walked into CERTUS, on July 22nd 2020 my Dad was wheeled out of CERTUS and transported by ambulance to the Advent Health OC Hospital ER. When he arrived at the ER he was in near death condition with renal failure, septic shock, extreme dehydration, untreated extreme UTI, sodium levels through the roof. He lost his ability to swallow because of the neglect and had to be fitted with a PEG feeding tube in his stomach. He spent the next 3 months bouncing around between hospital PCU, ICU, long term acute care and Orange City Nursing / Rehab skilled nursing (another horrific failure where he contracted MERSA in his trachea). Dad passed away October 27, 2020 with his grieving wife (my Mom) at his side. Postmortem test showed NO COVID present. How did this happen? CERTUS corporate chose to save $10/ hour and use a young inexperienced LPN (Amy Kimbal) as wellness director (WD), **instead of a more qualified geriatric RN. The WD completely misdiagnosed my Dad, neglected hydration and fumbled medicine administration to treat a UTI she knew he had. The WD went on to misrepresent my Dads condition to the facility MD, Dr David Heise (1740353465) Family Practice on the Go of FL who made the mistake of listening to an inexperienced LPN and did not conduct due diligence in caring for my Dad by prescribing timely antibiotics. The WD was further negligent by not following up on a late urinalysis (US) and subsequent culture and susceptibility (CS) report. On top of all this CERTUS corporate refused to hand over daily care notes on my Dad to our attorney that they admitted they had but since the state of FL doesn't require them legally, that had no incentive to turn them over. After charging near $6000/ month - yes - $6k per month -- this last item illustrates why the ALF / Memory Care system in FL (and other areas of the country) is broken and corrupt. Recommend you avoid the system entirely if you can. These last 8 months have been a nightmare for my family because of the blatant incompetence and intentional obfuscation by this horrific company. If I could give it negative stars I would."
