I have no tattoos, but I've been to Sanctity a number of times as my son had two quarter sleeves and chest pieces done by artist Jay Cavna. They are, in a word, stunning. Of course I was a little skeptical of an 18 year old picking out body art that he'll have all his life, but because of Jay's guidance, vision, and skill, my son has two amazing works of Japanese-style art on his body. Jay really spent time with my son to make sure that he got something meaningful. My son is stopped everywhere he goes by people who enjoy his tattoos. It's a shop for true aficionados-- not the place to get your Tweety Bird tat. It's obvious they're all passionate about their work and their aesthetic is sophisticated. I've gotten several tattoos here. What I love is the great positive attitude I get when I want to talk about getting a tattoo. I'm not treated like its my privilege to get a tattoo here, I'm treated like a valued customer purchasing very high quality tattoos. I got a tattoo from Jay about 6 months ago and I love it more every single day. I could not have asked for a better experience throughout. Let me start by saying that this tattoo was a cover-up so I wanted to make sure I found the right shop and the right artist so I wouldn't be searching to cover up my cover-up. After looking at a lot of shops around Tucson I decided to check out Sanctity. I had a wonderful experience from start to finish. I wanted an American Traditional tattoo and Jay delivered! He incorporated everything I wanted into the design and was open to changing the layout to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. The shop is extremely clean, the staff is friendly, and the artwork is even better. If you are serious about getting a tattoo, I highly recommend the shop. Jay is the man!.. You would be a fool to go to any one else for Japanese Artwork ..Shop was clean staff is great!!!! Also I will go nowhere else or allow anyone else to tattoo me but Jay i have a full right sleeve and going back soon for a full left sleeve!. Jay charges only 150.00 a hr and doesn't charge for draw time ...Thats right draw time Jay Free Handed my sleeve ..all but head of dragon.. I was blown away .He is a true Artist.. When you're going to put something permanent on your body, you should go to someone who cares as much about the quality of their work as you do about wearing it for the rest of your life. Not only are the artists here incredibly talented and creative, they are passionate, knowledgable, and respectful of both the client and the history of the art. Love this place! Got a Morpho Menalaus butterfly tattooed for my 18th birthday by a great guy named Tracy. Color is great, people are nice, and everything is very sterile and professional! I have been going to Sanctity over the last 4 years and have gotten both sleeves done and just about finished with my back. I am very particular about the stories and design of each of my tattoos. Every time I go in to describe what is in my head, Jay has been able to knock it out of the park. Jay (the owner and tattooer) has done a great job of bringing in a bunch of different artists to represent a bunch of different styles. Studio is immaculate. Even smelled slightly antiseptic which I felt was a good sign truly. I am going to preface this review by saying that I think my experience would have been 100% different had there been clearer communication and I would not steer anyone away from going to Sanctity for their tattoo. I knew what I wanted but I felt really rushed and almost like I was bothering Tracy with my requests for revision to get it better....Their policy is to not work on the design in front of you which differs from some other shops in town but I can see why they do it that way. When I was looking for guidance in placement, etc., he didn't have anything to say other than "it's your tattoo, dude". I've been told that it is not an uncommon answer from any tattoo artist. Given the placement on my body I was really dependent on getting feedback, and even though my sister was there, I wish he would have either said "yeah good, or move it here would lay better," or even just check in with the other artists. His portfolio looked fine. I just wasn't aware of how sarcastic he truly was so that came off a little sh*tty. He did give me aftercare instructions and A&D ointment and did respond to my question the next day about wearing a bra given it was along my ribcage. My recommendation in general is to make sure you get a good vibe from who you're working with because communication is everything. I needed someone more laid back. read more

I had the great pleasure of being tattooed by Tracy Martino yesterday. Sanctity Tattoo is clean and professional and everyone I spoke to was super friendly. I'd met Tracy before as he's tattooed two of my (adult) children. I appreciated how open and authentic he was then so when I wanted to get ink representing my family and our love of nature, of course I went to him. I took him a rough sketch and some reference photos and the image he created was above and beyond my expectations. It was so perfect. The process was wonderful too. Chatting with Tracy is great. I have a good number of tattoos from a few different artists but my favorite by far are the ones done by Jay Cavna. Clean, professional, and talented artists work here. I will go no where else for my work. Not only is Jay fast and light handed but he is also very knowledgeable about tattoo procedure, history, symbolism, and composition. Jay sleeved my left arm and I plan on being suited by him eventually (if that says anything about my trust in his abilities). I read the other reviews and even had the recommendation of a friend before I decided to get my first tattoo done here. I can honestly say it was one of the worst experiences of my life!! I called to make an appt. to talk Josh about drawing up a tattoo. I was told to just come in. I drove 30 mins to get there and Josh was busy doing a piece. He said to come talk to him but I felt like he wasn't really giving me the time I needed to discuss what I wanted. I spoke to the guy at the desk and he said I needed to make an appt. Errgg! I told him I tried and was told to come in. Tracey came over and offered to help me. I told him an idea of what I was wanting and left a picture. It was a VERY simple piece. He agreed to draw up a few pictures. I made an appt. for the tattoo and paid the $50 deposit. When I returned several weeks later with two friends, Tracey had a picture drawn. I liked it but I wanted to see it modified just a bit. Tracey drew up another picture which took about 5 minutes. It still wasn't quite what I wanted and one of the names was spelled wrong (even though he had the names on a paper). I asked if he could change it a bit more and spell the name right. At this point I was told that this was the last time he was changing it. My friends and I were shocked! This piece was simple, permanant and very important to me! Besides I had paid a deposit and would have paid whatever the piece and the artists time cost! When I questioned him about this he said he had drawn it 8 times! I said "Really? Because I only have 2 papers in my hand-one of which was spelled incorrectly!" At this point I should have left but because I already paid my deposit I stayed. Tracey was pissed and let me know it. Nobody else in the shop even acted like he was out of line. He redid the drawing but spelled the other name wrong in the piece!! WTF!! I pointed it out, he re-drew the picture and I got the tattoo which took about 15 min. (This tells you just how simple it really was.) I ended up paying $100 altogether for the piece. I thought Tracey was rude, unprofessional and was unwilling to work with me-a tattoo newbie! I will always remember my first tattoo experience as awful!! Thanks Sanctity! I was so tramatized that I felt sick thinking about having to go back in to touch up a spot that is not crisp and so I haven't. I will eventually go somewhere else to have it done. I would NOT recommend this place to my worst enemy!!! read more
