It's a brick building, and it has private parking in the driveway. Parking is nice. The office itself has its own door once you go inside. The closest door to the parking lot will get you to their office as soon as you walk in. I called about an appointment right before tax time (bad timing on my part), but they were willing to answer a quick question via e-mail before I had my scheduled appointment date, so that's definitely nice service. Once I arrived there, everybody there was fantastic. The receptionist was really friendly, and even though I showed up 10 minutes early (just to make sure I was on-time), I was taken straight to the office to meet with my CPA (in this case, it was Dan Scoles). As bonus points for the receptionist, I wanted to make sure I had money to go downtown in Ames, and I asked for change for a dollar. They don't keep a cash register (or cash) there, but she dug in her purse and ended up getting me quarters for my dollar. I love that she went out of her way to help. Dan was completely forward and upfront about what I needed to do, and he even printed me off some information. He seemed extremely knowledgeable about what he was doing, and he offered suggestions about things I hadn't thought about doing. He was very down-to-Earth, and he explained my options for things - and also explained what he thought would be the best option. I came in with a list of pre-written questions, and he answered almost all of them without being prompted - just by himself when explaining what he'd recommend and what should be done. My only complaint is that I couldn't pay for my service at the time I had it done. I particularly dislike having bills sent in the mail, and I'd rather just pay right up-front. However, they'll be sending a bill in the mail for me instead.

It gave us a memory and an opportunity to get creative. :) We made our appointment for noon yesterday (Saturday). The location is right off Hickman in Waukee in the same stop mall as H's Pho (that's my reference point anyway). SUPER close to where I live. Yippee for me! When we arrived there was only one other family there. We had plenty of space to spread out with the wine and snacks we brought with. The owner did a good job of running us through the steps in the process, what materials to use, safety, and then turned us loose. Her daughter, Jennifer, was very helpful too. It wasn't what I expected in a good way. I learned how to use tools to cut glass and how to use different materials for different effects, etc. The only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars was the temperature in the store. Even with wearing an airy summer dress, I was melting. That was pre-wine even so it kept getting progressively warmer as we went along. I never asked to have the temperature adjusted but should have. This is a great place to get on with your inner artist and makes a great gift for friends and family :)

In the last few years the school has changed. It's not a family friendly place anymore. They are now top heavy in administration and the kids are treated more as a commodity than children. There are new people leading the school now and I think they are trying to turn it into a "prestigious" private school. It's not the loving Christian centered place it used to be. This will be our last year at this school which is really sad for us as a family.
