A light with a…read more spooky history A lighthouse about a mile or so off the coast of New Rochelle. A unique light about 42 feet with no copies that I know of. It was built in 1850 and then rebuilt in about 1868 because of heavy wind and sea damage. A very cool place that some people say is haunted. Of course many lighthouses are said to be haunted because they are spooky places but this one has a reason for the weirdness. The light gets it's name from the revolutionary war. The story or legend has it that England become embarrassed by public executions because the defiant colonist would scream out nasty things about the king before being hung. So the British decided to kill the recalcitrant rebels in private. They took them out here and chained them to the rocks that the light was eventually built on and let the tide come it and drown them. I have even heard that this was the main inspiration for part of the the Declaration of Independence. Of course the ghosts of the rebels could never find peace and still inhabit tha area. I don't know how true the story is but the rocks and lighthouse are a cool place to kayak. The sound narrows and is only about four miles across so it is an easy yak to get from Connecticut to New York. We tightly packed a cooler and was greeted by an employee so she could help us load the onboard coolers with our drinks and snacks. She then directed me to the lirr train station to park as there is no parking on site (they should change the email so it doesn't state Dublin Deck anymore). Kevin was our host and Bill was our captain. Kevin helped facilitate some drinking games and Bill made the ride a breeze. The bathroom on board was the perfect size and worked out well even with such a large group. Cruising through the water dancing to some of our favorite music and cheering on other boaters as they passed by made for an awesome experience. Perfect for bachelorette parties, birthday parties and even signing up for a public tour and riding solo. I can't imagine anyone having a bad time.

I was able to find parking easily in front. The village has 2 hour free parking which is perfect since open play is 1.5 hours long. First impressions, the location was very clean. I loved the look of the open play space. There was a small space for infants/crawlers and the main play area had so many options. The colors were beautiful chosen and the play was safe and clean. My toddler (2 years old) enjoyed climbing all over the play structures, the swings and all the toys in the space. Timing: there are multiple times available for open play listed in their website. We booked the 4pm slot which I think is a great time that is usually not offered at other play spaces. The 4pm slot offers a great open play time after nap time and before dinner time. It also gives parents who are working to do something after work which was really nice. The space had many cubbies to put your shoes and bags. Make sure to bring socks to participate in the open play. You will sign a waiver online prior to entering the play space. They have a private room within the play space for parties. I loved the dedicated/separate space to have pizza and cake. Amity Play Cove is a family business - I met the owners when we went yesterday. They have bar meet ups after the games with drink specials and such to continue the fun. Overall, a really fun way to get outside and spend a Wednesday. You can sign up as an individual or a team.
