I dropped into sand dunes strength and conditioning while on vacation from Atlanta. I was expecting the standard open gym drop-in experience of squatting in the corner while trying not to get in the way of everyone. What I got was a thousand times better. Classes at Sand Dunes Crossfit with Evan Chelini are so far off the charts that amazing isn't a big enough word. There it is, short and sweet, for those of you that need a fast review. This is why you should take my word for it: I am a 28 year old former everything. Former athlete, former model, former gym(s) member, etc. I say "former" because I'd basically gotten to the point of thinking, "ok well I guess this is why people complain about turning 30. I'm getting old and can't do the things I love anymore." That thinking is over. I have worked at a gym and I've had more personal trainers than I can even remember and Evan is BY FAR the best I've ever encountered. I have been in situations where I worked out with a trainer for 2-3 hours a day, 6 days a week for months on end and not gotten the quality of results that he has given me in only 6 sessions so far. Like everyone else I care about looks but in order to maintain looking great you need for your body to function correctly and that is an issue that many trainers overlook. In my experience, other trainers may give you a workout but they end up causing or ignoring issues that make exercise more difficult in the future so they set you up for failure. Evan is different. His exceptionally well rounded knowledge of how the body works and how to repair old injuries/ issues combined with never ending patience and ability to tailor the workout to perfectly fit each individual person means that not only will you get results but you will be able to CONTINUE getting results. Age and injuries become moot points. It is that simple. If you have a special circumstance or issue that no one else has been able to help you with, I have no doubt that Evan can tackle it. I have more old injuries and issues than I can even keep track of (one leg shorter, countless old injuries- feet, limbs, fingers, knees, shoulders and back, etc...) and 3 weeks into working with him I honestly feel like I'm getting a whole new body- not just that I look better but more importantly parts that didn't work before are starting to work again so going forward I will be able to exercise more efficiently (and maintain my appearance better)! One other thing I will mention is that never once have I had to remind Evan of anything I've told him. Not only does he keep track of my injuries, he also knows what sports I love, what my family member's names are, what music I like, etc. This may seem trivial but when you're asking someone to help motivate you it is extremely valuable if they can throw in personal details- for me he has said "Come on Steph, this is going to help you snowboard so much faster" and using that detail is SO MUCH more motivating than general encouragement. I can spot a phony at 20 paces and Evan is not one- this guy genuinely cares, loves what he does and wants to help you. My only reason for writing this review is because I truly want people in the community to know what is available to them. If I found the cure for the common cold I'd tell everyone- same with this. I believe Crossfit is a great workout but that said, I'm doubtful that you'll find a better trainer in any program than Evan Chelini. Feeling scared of Crossfit? I was too. I won't lie, it isn't always a cake walk. However Evan will not let you fail so you're without a doubt going to see the kind of results that will empower you. I am someone who used to love to run but gave it up because of constant pain, and now I can run again! What more can I say... read more
