Few years after my first visit and still loving it! Service is always polite and friendly, environment is serene, place is super clean, colour selection has expanded and there are lots of shellac and regular polish options. Polish application here is superb. My nails always turn out great. Started waxing here a few times as well and it's a great experience. One of the least painful as the esthéticien was very professional and experienced. Prices are very reasonable as well. Not dirt cheap like the sketchy nail salons but no where close to fancy places that rip you off. About $35 gets you a shellac manicure $40 gets you a Brazilian wax. Add to that the service and cleanliness of the place and you've found yourself a keeper. I highly recommend this place. read more

Only having been to Sandalwood once, I absolutely love this establishment! Having just relocated to this area, I was a bit hesitant was a walk-in, but the ladies (and owner) working there are friendly, courteous and professional. I walked in for a mani-pedi service, and was there for quite a while actually -- they wanted to make sure that my nails were dry before I headed out. They were persistent on checking on the status on the nails, and then the owner came over to check herself, and realized that the polish itself was problematic (that's why it wouldn't fully dry). As a result, she asked if I had the time to stay and redo both my hands and feet -- to which I replied 'no' because of other plans. As a very responsible business owner, she offered me to come back later in the week to have my nails redone if they were being problematic -- to which I did. I've been to good nail salons, some bad ones, but none other like Sandalwood Spa and Nails. The staff truly take pride in their work and are very pleasant to converse with. Would I come back? I tried this place for the first time after recommendation from a friend. They are on the higher price range and so I expect quality and service to match it. I would say it was satisfactory. What made my experience terrible was when Erica made a mistake in the amount she charged me. I did Shellac manicure and regular pedicure. She mistakenly charged me for just the shellac manicure. This was her careless mistake. She actually called me on my phone after I had left and asked whether I would be willing to come back to pay the difference!!!! While this was the first time I was ever called back to pay for the mistake the service provider made, I said no problem and agreed to pay since that was service I had received. She asked me to give my visa card number to charge the difference when I get a chance. Few hours later she texted me again asking for payment. A customer should not have to go through this inconvenience and disruption and nagging to their day due to the service provider's mistake. The whole thing was ridiculous for just $38.42. Worse is that they said my toes were dry and I can go home yet one toe was completely smudged when I got home however given my experience with them I did not want to go back. If they made another mistake they will likely put ME through the inconvenience and I didn't want to go through that again. Such a terrible experience. If they didn't chase me down and annoy me for payment, I may have gone back to this place. read more

I've been going to Sandalwood Spa and Nails for 3 years now. It's about time I post my review not just on food but services. Every visit was satisfactory. It's a small place and the staff are friendly. I always go for the basic $45 Manicure and pedicure special that runs on Monday to Wednesday only. As usual, this place is quite busy. But they don't rush you. As soon as you go in, they soak your feet for few minutes. The lady will be right with you working away those dead skin. I just love the scrubbing and the massage. Ingrown nails properly removed. I noticed that they always bring sealed in a bag manicure equipment which makes me feel that they are not using same tools from previous customers. Sometimes another lady will be doing the manicure while someone works on your feet. Very efficient way to finish the job. After your nails are dried, they spray something on your nails and carefully put your socks and shoes. Overall, my visits here were great. Nothing to complain about. Came here with a friend on a weekday and we got a beauty break 45 mins ($55 before tax). It was nice of them to call us the morning of to remind us of our appointment and to come early because parking is hard to find. When we walked in, I was a little underwhelmed because the place is really small. It's hard to do a review because this is my first time to a spa -- ever! But it was a nice experience and I was happy with the service! The facial was in a warm and tight room. It starting with breathing in some essential oils, then applied several different creams. Clara, my esthetician, informed me about my skin type as the session went on. She massaged my face, extracted some blackheads, applied hot towels on my shoulders, and at the end, she massaged my neck, shoulders and did an arm stretch. The massage was nice, I wasn't expecting that as part of a facial. I appreciate her talking to me and asking about the pressure and whether I was comfortable. I just wished I knew that she would tell me what she will be doing next before doing it as each step was a surprise (sometimes a shock as I didn't like the part with cloth covering the face). Living at the cusp between Toronto and Thornhill, I spent years in search of an amazing nail and aesthetic salon in my area. I tried many different places and always left unhappy with the service, the beauty operators and the prices... until Sandalwood magical opened just a hop, skip and jump away from my house! Sandalwood opened its doors over a year ago and offers great services for nails, waxing, beauty treatments such as facials and massage therapy. I go there every week for my traditional manicure or polish change and I am always impressed for several reasons.... First off, the staff are extremely friendly and are all equally talented when it comes to mani/pedis, nail polish application and waxing. Secondly, they have a HUGE selection of nail polish colours to choose from! They only carry the top brands, such as OPI and Essie, and always have the latest specialty collections. Thirdly, they always have special promotional offers to their clients. For example, if you have one of their 1 hour, $80 aroma therapy massages, they give you a free pedicure with an additional salt scrub to your legs and feet, leaving your skin smooth and silky. And to top it off, they always have amazing herbal teas and yummy lattes ready as you walk in the door for your appointment. Overall, their prices are reasonable: Manicure - $18 Pedicure - $28 Nail or toe polish change - $10 As well, they bring in a licensed massage therapist to take clients every Saturday and are able to help submit insurance forms if you are covered for such pampering. Waste of time = money! This place is a scam! I came in for a mani pedi and soon realized I didn't have time for both. Decided to get a shellac mani and had only an hour to do so. I had my engagement party later that evening and my make up artist was going to be at my place soon. They assured me that would be no problem. Lisa was good but took way too long even after communicating my timeline. She did not clean my cuticles properly and the next day my shellac chipped! I'm peaved because I paid $60 for this (including $5 "express" charge - wtf????) I was out in an hour and 20 min. Ridiculous. This place is trying to be a yorkville salon in a china town shoe box. I've been looking for a place to get a facial for a couple of weeks now and on a whim I decided on Sandalwood. Location: It's a bit tricky- it's in a plaza off of John street so you will need to turn into it. I think it's called Thornhill Square. Interior: Small, earth-tone decor and clean. They have 4 massaging pedicure chairs, 4 (or 6) manicure tables, and 2 treatment rooms for facials & massages. Facial: I called and booked a facial but they didn't ask me what kind and I didn't tell them (they have a whole list on their site). This was both good and bad. I got an awesome deep cleansing facial with a head/neck/arms massage. Bad news because it was $95 and I wasn't really expecting to pay that. I was going to get the basic facial for $45. Since it was my first time getting a facial, it was good that I got the deep cleansing. Clara did a wonderful job, sloughing the dead skin right off. She also talked to me about my skin type. My skin felt amazing after- lighter, if that makes sense. They use a line that's completely plant-based so there are no chemicals- perfect for those with sensitive skin. Misc: I also got my eyebrows cleaned by Clara. She kept the shape and didn't make it thin (which I hate). Only $8. Oh, parking may be an issue. It was a Tuesday afternoon and the lot was pretty much full. Overall: It's a nice little spa but I can see it being busy on the weekend. They probably have the biggest selection of OPI nail polish I've seen, including all the new shades. Check their site for specials :) read more

Sandalwood Spa & Nails impressed me! I've always been a loyal customer at Nailsense but it's a bit far from where I live, so I decided to try somewhere new. Sandalwood is only ten minutes from my home and has great reviews so I gave it a try! The spa is small, but very comfortable and nicely decorated. Most importantly its extremely clean! The staff are professional, friendly and welcoming. I brought my own polish and my friend and I requested that our manicures be done at the same time as our pedicures - staff were more than happy to accommodate us! Customer service was excellent from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Both my manicure and pedicure were completed quickly but thoroughly - Sandalwood's staff really know what they're doing and my nails look great! Prices are a little more than average but for a clean, comfortable environment and wonderful service its worth it. The only con was that the parking lot was quite busy (I visited midday on a weekday) and it was slightly difficult to find parking. I'm not sure if Sandalwood takes walk-ins (I made an appointment in advance). It wasn't busy when I went but as the space is small I can see it getting busy quickly - it's probably best to call in advance. Overall a great experience and I definitely will be back! *** I have to amend my review by removing one star because unfortunately the polish on both my fingers and toes chipped in less than a week :( I'll still give Sandalwood another try but I was slightly disappointed. read more

Came here today to get my eyelashes tinted. It was empty but waited 5 mins for the girl to get me. She was very gentle and clean when dying them, which is essential when having dye right at your eyeball! She did a good job, $16 + HST, left a $20. I have been looking for a go-to salon since I first moved to Toronto in 2007. Unfortunately, I have yet to find one that is a) reasonable in price, and b) meets my standards for quality. I was really looking forward to visiting Sandalwood Spa based on the reviews that I read here so I scheduled an appointment for a polish change and an underarm wax. When I arrived at the salon, I was impressed by it's modern interior. The walls are dark and the floors are polished hard wood. Very chic! I was also very happy with the cleanliness of the salon overall. My esthetician was Leah. She was Chinese with a really cute bob and big, brown eyes. She took me to the back room for my wax first. The room was very clean and the supplies were well organized. She was quick and efficient but I noticed later that she didn't get everything and I bruised a little bit. After my wax, she brought me out the main room to her station for my polish change. Because it was my first time, she put together a personal set of supplies (nail file, buffer, toe seperators, etc.) that is kept at the salon so as not to spread bacteria from one person to another. She asked me how I like my nails shaped and went to work. She did a really nice job with the polish and used good products (OPI, ESSIE). However, I left with super square nails that were concave at the top. I hate that! I could have told her exactly how I wanted them, but I shouldn't have to. My cousin and I came here to get our nails done. I did a regular manicure and she did a shellac nail. The place is clean, though it does have a nail polish smell, which is natural for a place like this. They do a pretty good job of masking the smell though, with an essential oil diffuser. The lady who did my nails was attentive, asking "Is this okay?" And letting me see how my nail polish looked on my nails before fully applying it first. There was a hand/ arm massage, and the whole usual process for getting your nails cut, filed, cuticles clipped, etc. It ended with me going to the hand drying machine- and I'm happy with my results! I liked this place. I came here for the first time last week and had a pedicure and manicure done. It is a small, cozy little salon and is very sophisticated, elaborate and chic! I loved the interior design, it really feels like a SALON. The place is very clean and apparently they have a manicure set for each individual customer. They seem to have a LOT of regulars which should be a good sign. You can have a massage in their ginormous, sleep-friendly chairs while you get your nails done, which is super relaxing. They have a weekday special which is $45 for a manicure and a pedicure, I believe. I paid a little under $60 for both (French). I'm not sure about their other services but they definitely did a great job on the nails. Also use good quality polish. I would definitely recommend it. I want to try out a few places closer to my area as I know that I could get it cheaper elsewhere. I came here to get a manicure with my friend. The lady who was doing my nails did not say one word to me, not even a hello. It seemed like she was rushing through the process and was not enjoying it at all. Halfway through the manicure she pulled out her phone and started texting. I mean seriously? She didn't even say anything, she just sat there for 5 minutes texting and scrolling through her phone. I was extremely frustrated but I didn't say anything. I was very impressed by the serene atmosphere and the concern the staff had for the clients' comfort. I had the spa French manicure today, and my estetician was Helena; she was wonderful - had a great attention to detail, was very gentle and asked me many times if the towel temperature/hand position/arm and hand massage pressure levels were ok. She discussed with me the type of French polish to use and was very knowledgable about what French manicure style would be best for my finger length and nail shape (a rounded, thinner tipped-nail with a more cream-coloured base was what we decided). I've been a little scared of going for a manicure because I have had some painful experiences in the past (the estetician jabbing my cuticles back too far, cutting too far into a hangnail and making me bleed, etc.) but this was a very gentle experience, and it was very relaxing! Ambience & Decor: I've been going to this salon for almost 5 years now. It is contemporary, fresh smelling, clean, relaxing, &, comfortable. The weekday mani-pedi specials are good deals. They have a large selection of nail colors & frequently add new stock. The space is small & tends to crowd in the clients. Any talk above a whisper makes it loud inside the space. There is also a lot of glare from the windows when you are in a pedicure chair facing the window wall. Service: The staff is friendly and efficient with maintaining appointment times but beware if you are late since the owner doesn't like it. Cindy is a very talented & dedicated nail technician/artist. Most of the ladies working there are long-timers and proficient in what they do. They also try to talk in English amongst themselves - not always in Korean - like some of the other salons which is a pet peeve of mine. Parking: is a nightmare in Thornhill Square shopping center. A large portion of the spots have been reserved by a few businesses in Thornhill Square. You have to give yourself an extra 10-15 min on average to find parking or park far away & walk. read more

I was greeted with a smile when I walked in and there were lots of colours to choose from. The girl doing my nails was very friendly and efficient. The spa is small but comfortable and clean. She kept her chatter to a minimum which I enjoy because I just want to relax and zone out. There were several others there also getting manis but there was no chatter which was great and I almost fell asleep. The girl did a great job on my nails and they take credit cards. Parking for me wasn't an issue as I just parked over by the food basics and walked over. 2 mins walk. And when I went to pay the girl was nice to help me get the credit card out of my wallet and also got my car keys out for me. There were pretty crowded when I came so, yes, an appointment was the right decision. The interior was cozy and clean with nice decor. Staff were friendly and this place is definitely A+ but unfortunately quality of manicure was really bad. My cuticle wasn't cut properly and they marked it and some skin around the nails with polish. I was very impressed with my first trip to Sandalwood Spa and Nails. To be honest, I stumbled in by accident- I've usually gone to Bobos for waxing and At Your Fingertips for manis and pedis. However, growing tired of all these salons being closed on Mondays and wanting to try something new, I decided to give Sandalwood a go while I was in the area. I went around 1pm on a Monday, and was told it would just be a 15 minute wait which seemed fair as I had just walked in without an appointment. The decor is (surprise) sandalwood-themed, very sleek and sophisticated for a smaller spa. The ambiance was warm and relaxing, and everything appeared to be very tidy and clean. I could see they had a huge variety of OPI and Essie polishes, and the two customers who were there getting pedis and manis seemed to be in a state of bliss- always a good sign! Leah did my waxing services that day and she was lovely! The salon uses a honey wax, which was much more comfortable than some of the other hard waxes that other salons often use, and didn't leave a heavy after-smell. She used a light aloe vera oil afterwards to remove any excess wax. I'm usually incredibly skeptical and nervous to let somebody new near my face or body with scalding hot wax - but Leah was incredibly thorough and did a great job. She was also respectful and wasn't overly chatty. I would absolutely recommend giving them a try, especially if you have very sensitive skin like myself or find typical hard waxes and other salons to be too painful. For now, I will give my Sandalwood experience 4 stars as I have yet to try their manicures and pedicures. BUT I am definitely converted for waxing, and will return this week for some hand and feet TLC. The prices seemed fairly comparable to other mid-range day spas, but I was much more impressed with the quality and attention i received. read more

I came to Sandalwood and got a massage and my nails done. The gal who did my nails was extremely gentle with my hands. I recently injured my hand and let the technician know, and she was really accommodating to my injury and handled it very well. The massage was fantastic as well. This little nail salon is wonderful. I had made a appointment for myself and some friends, and am I ever happy I did - this place gets real busy real quick. We all got a mani and pedi and the ladies at this salon were great. They were all super friendly, professional and really took their time to take care of us even though the salon was full of other customers. The environment is clean and very well taken care of. I love that they have a dedicated drying station where you can wait for your feet and hands to dry. My favourite thing about this place is that they have Essie nail polish, which is one of my favourite brands. I went there after being disappointed with another nail salon so my friend suggested I try it. I was so impressed! The place is very small, but very clean and inviting. They make you feel at ease and always speak english. I do find it very annoying when employees in nail salons speak their own language, because I find it quite rude. I had a mani and a pedi and it was very enjoyable. Their chairs are very comfortable and the girl gave a fabulous hand and foot massage.
