Me and my better half with our castle built with Andy's "assistance". Ha

This was our second "lesson" with Andy and would recommend it to anyone of any age! Be sure to "throttle back" the day prior as sandcastle building is hard work! But fun and rewarding. Book your lesson today for families, couples, anyone! Do It!!

    Finished castle!

We booked a two hour class with Andy and loved every minute of it! He did a great job explaining the science and engineering behind the sandcastles to my three daughters (11, 9 and 7 years old). Once he taught us the basic principles, he let us try and explore techniques on our own. Andy found a good balance between assisting and letting us be creative. It was an amazing experience that we will treasure forever!

This is a for sure must do!! It was the highlight of our trip! Mr Andy was so patient and funny. We would highly recommend this event on your trip. He also does wedding proposals! How cool is that!!

Our family took a trip to South Padre this summer and one of the things we could not wait to do was take a sand castle lesson. We were not disappointed! The lesson was extremely fun for the whole family. Andy Hancock is a wonderful and friendly instructor who is incredible at sandcastle building. My family built a huge beautiful sandcastle that people stoped to stare at long after we were finished. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun family activity while visiting the beach!

We had lots of little kiddos with us who loved the lesson and freedom to try the new skills Andy taught them.

Is it run down? Yes! Isn't most everything in this area? The attitude of the employees was shocking too, there was only 1 guy there when we got there, he was running the entire massive place and didn't complain one bit, was happy to help and that was so refreshing. Later we met another girl working the rundown arcade who was just as nice and helpful :), so 5 stars for staff. We went on a Saturday from 3-5:30pm and we're basically the only ones there so I can understand why it's rundown, they don't have the money to do the upkeep but it was pretty cool to see once. My 3 littles enjoyed it, my mom enjoyed reading about everything in the journey too. So love it or hate it, it's cool to check out for something to do while in town and need a break from the beach (with sunburn like us). It's a one time thing, I can't really see coming back with the condition the games and everything is in. Just have low expectations and be surprised :). Laser Tag was closed, they said it's been closed since Covid started. Just FYI.

Beach Water Park (formerly Schlitterbahn)…read more I'd heard about this place for years under the Schlitterbahn name, so when we had a free Saturday we decided to finally check it out. There's active construction on the west side of the park, a pretty substantial pit dug out, so right away the place feels incomplete. The concept here is genuinely different from any water park I've been to. The whole thing is accessed via lazy river. You float from attraction to attraction, peel off at exit ramps, and wait in floating tube lines for each ride. No hauling a tube up four flights of stairs in flip-flops. That part I actually appreciated. The problem is the wait times are brutal. We sat in one line for 40 minutes before giving up and walking ourselves backward out of it. The line barely moved the entire time. On the way out, one of the employees mentioned capacity on the rides had been reduced from previous years. That explains it, and also doesn't make me feel better about it. The lazy river access system only works if the rides are actually moving people through. When they're not, you're just floating in a queue wondering why you left the house. Wouldn't prioritize coming back.

The zoo is beautifully designed and is easy to walk. The layout lends to a great experience. I couldn't believe how close we could get to some of the animals! Let me start by saying this is my childhood zoo. It holds a very special place in my heart, so what…read moreI'm about to say comes from a place of love. More mister fans could be placed throughout the zoo. It's so humid and hot that the little shade, along with the sparsely located mister fans throughout the property, isn't sufficient enough during the hotter times of the year. Yes, I have noticed that there are fans and some other locations with smaller patches of canvas shading, but it's not enough; maybe the zoo can look into plants that will provide shade and vine plants that will grow and climb and create shade naturally in time. This location is currently going through a lot of remodeling. A lot of animals were not out. This could be due to the heat and humidity, and also, maybe they got relocated due to the remodeling. Trash. My biggest pet peeve is the trash that's lying around on the ground or an empty soda cup in the sections of the zoo where, before entering the doors, it states "no food or drink allowed." But somehow, while looking at the lionfish and seahorse, I found a kid's cup on the step, empty. I don't understand why people don't just pick up after themselves. I don't care for the zip line, but I get it; it's a tool to draw people into the zoo. I know the zoo is doing everything it can to improve itself, but it also needs to focus on the current exhibits it has, as well as the animals whose enclosures are outdated.

I always wondered why not further south? I think it just meant more driving for my dad. Lol. This resort town is incredibly laid back. If you're searching for upscale dining and shopping, go elsewhere. Head to Dallas! Lol. The people are mostly friendly. The beaches weren't pristinely clean, but most areas we went to were not waste-ridden. These waters were very calm and soothing when we were here in late May 2025. There is tar, but not to the extent that Kaitlyn B. complained about in her Jun 1, 2025 review. Not in my experience. If it gets on your skin, use an old wash rag or a paper towel and baby oil. Clothes are a little tougher. Just don't put them in the dryer because the stains will set even deeper. In the area that I can recommend for nature lovers: + Butterfly Garden + Isla Blanca Park + Sea Turtle Inc. + Whaling Wall + Bonus: Sea Shell Beach (so many shells + free parking, but no restrooms!) Take the State Park Rd 100 (aka Ocean Blvd) all the way north past the South Padre Island Convention Center. You can't miss it. The road ends. Don't be scared. Be cautious of standing water and lots of sand in the roadway, though. Be adventurous, have fun, and please manage your damn trash properly & dispose of it when you go back into town!
