So. I find myself mid September going for dinner on the sea front with two ladies who I've not seen for over 7 years and they chose the Sandgate as the venue.
I've not been here for longer than our last meet and it was probably just as good as it was then. It had, however, lost its service improvement skills in the last (almost) decade.
We ordered four tapas for £14 starter (halloumi, chilli prawn, calamari, and spicy sausage) between the three of us and given it was a hot Indian summers night, we ordered fish & chips and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.
The mains came first and starters as an addition. We pointed out this wasn't right and it was met with a rather blunt "oh" and a walk off. We then had an obscene amount of food to eat between us and unfortunately, it was all food to be eaten whilst hot, so it did spoil what was otherwise good food.
We did get one (single) glass of wine free but it was a shame as the food tasted really good, just a shame we had to throw it down our necks and not pace it.
To top the poor service off, another round of drinks got messed up (only three drinks and two of them were the same) so maybe invest some time in service as it's a great spot and the food wasn't that bad at all, and reasonably priced, just it could be a lot busier if people got better service. read more
