I came over here a few weeks ago on a Monday and waited for them to open and 15-20 minutes after opening hours no one was here and the door was still blocked with items. I called and got their voicemail which said that summer hours would include being open on Mondays 12-7. At that time there was no sign on the door saying closed for the day. I decided to try again today. Called twice before heading over to the store to see if they would in fact be open. Still no answer other than the voicemail, but the voicemail still said they would be open from 12-7 on Mondays. So, I decided to risk it. I just drove up to find out they still are in fact not open, at least they have a sign on their door (spelled wrong I might I add). If you are going to have a voicemail listing your hours of operation, you need to update it if you are going to be unexpectedly closed on a random, non holiday, day. This makes me very unlikely to come back because I don't want to waist my time or gas.

I just had to post a review because the experience was so unacceptable really. My boyfriend and I were shopping and as usual had a simple nice conversation upon entering the store with the sales person and then started to look. Then the comments started. The salesman kept making crude comments to my boyfriend and at first we kind of laughed them off. Then he started following us around the store, asking him to go to the "VIP" room with him or bringing him shorts to try on or off for him. Another time he came and asked him to try some vintage underwear on that were hanging in a booth. Finally, I said okay that's enough he's mine and tried to keep intrigue but let him know that this wasn't really our interest. He made some very lewd gestures and said even more inappropriate things and after that we quickly wrapped up our shopping and left. We were uncomfortable and frankly, we just aren't people who it's easy to make uncomfortable like that. It was icky. Not sure what was going on but it was really really bad. I don't know if he's the owner or just an employee but I know we won't be going back.

Whenever I leave here I feel confident that I got a bargain on whatever it is that I have purchased. Also, they are never pushy or overly sales-y when I ask for details about any particular item. They are very knowledgable about their items, and very friendly, always giving you a warm welcome when you walk in the door. I will definitely be stopping by A & R first if there is a particular item that I am looking for, or even if I'm not looking for anything specific and just want to see some neat stuff. FYI: they are cash only, so make sure you stop by an ATM first before you go, because you will surely find at least one thing you want.

It's super cute but the problem is people need to be more realistic with their pricing. I saw a ton of beanie babies and people were selling them for about $20-$25 for the basic beanie babies. I had over 100 beanie babies and I couldn't even sell most of them for two dollars and I had to give most of them away because there's just no market for that. So I think people need to be more reasonable with their pricing on things and maybe do a Google reverse image search to see the actual value of things if they want to sell them

I spent awhile looking around and it was fun. It's always enjoyable when taking a trip down memory lane. My favorite thing there is playing the Dolly Parton pinball machine. Mario at Contra was the consummate retail neighbor, helpful and friendly. I was looking for a used tuxedo jacket but didn't realize that wasn't AT ALL his specialty- his store carries great casual street wear (shoes, t-shirts, jackets, hats, etc). Still, his shop tempted me enough to browse his clothes racks while we had small talk. I got gift ideas for friends to buy in the future, and look forward to heading in there again to see what new pieces he has. I loved the pop culture t-shirts he had, something for all the generations- from Deadheads to Metalheads to everyone in-between. It's a great addition to the Central Avenue scene when you're looking for something unique and something "cool/groovy/dope/dank/..."
