This resort is amazing once you park your vehicle you literally don't have to move it if you don't want to for anything everything you need is either on site or literally walking distance there is a convenience store at the next block and a beach shop and restaurant. And if you do have to drive to the grocery store or anywhere is literally minutes up the road. I will return nice hotel great amenities pretty good service I love that Jacuzzi at the pool. Please do not stay here. Our experience was disgusting and unsafe. The worst part was the roaches--we found multiple roaches during our stay, which made us feel extremely uncomfortable. There were also bugs throughout the property, the floors were wet, and the ceiling appeared to have mold on it. On the deck, there was a loose wooden plank with exposed nails facing upward, creating a serious safety hazard. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, there were hairs on the towels provided, and everything looked dirty and poorly maintained. Despite all these health and safety concerns, they refused to give us a refund. This was one of the worst places I have ever stayed. Save yourself the stress and money--do not book here. read more

This was by far the worst hotel experience of my life. We checked into the room and found multiple surfaces were still wet from the previous guest. On top of that, there was multiple big issues with the room including: - a broken safe - mold and rust all over the ceiling, bathroom, and bathtub - hole in the wall in the bathroom - broken phone - towels had hair on them - the heater smelt like smoke - multiple roaches - the bible was left open and soaked This hotel also doesn't provide basic services like complimentary pool/beach towels. How does an oceanfront hotel that is literally called "Sands Ocean Club" not have beach towels available to their guest?? The cherry on top was when we decided we've had enough after just one night. We checked out the following day despite having 3 nights left on the reservation. After informing the front desk staff of all the many issues and safety hazards of the room, they passed the issue onto their manager who granted me only a 50% refund. Upon arrival we were given room 836. As soon as I opened the door I knew I would not be staying in this room. Nasty carpet, wreaked of cigarette smoke, damaged furniture, what looked to be puke on the bedding, mold on the walls, ceiling and shower curtain. Went straight back downstairs and let them know this room is not acceptable. Thankfully, the front desk attendant was great. He explained to us that all units are privately owned, and some are updated and some are not. He helped get us into another room and even upgraded to a suite at no extra charge. This unit was on the 18th floor and much better. View was great and could hear the nightly bands from out balcony. With that being said I still will not book here again because I don't want to take any chances of being put in a unit that has not been updated or have to go through the stress or hassle again. My favorite activities during our visit were: floating in ocean waves, listening to great live music while enjoying a drink at the on-site Ocean Annie's Beach Bar, and visiting the nearby watepark where entry tickets were included in our resort reservation. Let's start with the amazing amenities: OCEAN ANNIE'S BEACH BAR - greative live music EVERY day starting at 1pm, running into the evening. Extensive cocktail menu with good prices. Many drinks not listed on menu, including my favorite of the week: Miami Vice (Pina colada with strawberrt margarita mix drizzled around the sides). NOTE: You can get FREE WATER at bar from cooler on counter. There is live music everyday. The afternoon band on most days (when we were here) is a 3 guy set (guitar, bass, drums) that are super talented and super funny. LAZY RIVER - located just behind the bar is a lazy river. It isn't large but is a relaxing place to hang out and ride the current round and round and round and round (tubes are provided) RIVER CITY CAFE - located behind the outdoor pool. They offer amazing selection of delicous burgers. I enjoyed the peanut butter bacon burger. It may sound different but it was amazing! INDOOR AND OUTDOOR POOLS - For those that want to dip in the water without getting sandy. They were popular. MYRTLE WAVES WATER PARK ASMISSION - best water park that I have ever visited! Our reservation included free admission tickets for as many days as we wanted. Normal admission price without a coupon is $49/day. They have the biggest towering water slides that I have ever enjoyed! The Night Rider is my favorite, which is a fully enclosed slide.wheee you ride in the dark on a tube. They also have a HUGE lazy river which runs around center of park. We often used the river to get from one side of park to another for a ride. We enjoyed the large wave pool. They have rides and water features for all ages toddler to adult. It's about an 18min drive from Ocean Annie's. NIGHTCLUB - they have a great nightub on 1st floor with live music. We didn't enjoy it because we had our teenage daughter with us who wasn't allowed entry, plus we just can't stay up late as the young crowd anymore. BEACH PIER is located within walking distance. However once you get there you must pay $2 per person to walk on it and thus earn right to buy food/ice cream. We were offended by such a scam so they didn't get our money. Most people, including ourselves, don't carry money while walking beach so the lier is useless. Now let's discuss the 2-star hotel: CLEAN - Impressed how ean they keep it. They constantly sweep the halls where people track in sand from the beach. SMELLY HALLS - smells a little like rotten-trash mixed with some type of carpet cleaning powder that tries to cover up the smell. This made our faces cringe many times, but luckily our room didn't smell. OUTDATED ROOM NEEDING REPAIRS - ugly 80's window drapes. Cabinet door broken off in bathroom. Hot water not working in kitchenette sink. Water knobs turn backwards on sinks. TV missing the remote. MARSH VIEW ROOMS are misleading. We didn't pay for the ocean view , but we hardly got a marsh view. We looked directly into the parking structure. I would get same room again as I don't need ocean view, however I think they should be more honest about the view. ROOM SERVICE was virtually non existent. They never cleaned room or made beds during 8 night stay. Honestly that is ok with me except for fact that we had to ask for towels every day. They would take old towels in bag if we set them outside room but they never replenished them without us asking. UNRELIABLE INTERNET - the wifi clearly can't support the load of all the guests. It works well in the morning until about 8am (when many start waking up and opening their devices). After that you can connect with strong signal but good luck getting Internet. It's not even enough bandwidth for email when you get any bandwidth at all. We asked at the desk and they acknowledged the issue (they know) but they had no solution. Verizon data signal is very weak and we could only access from our balcony. I needed to work a little while here so I placed phone in balcony and tethered internet but even then my bandwidth was not good enough for a good quality video call into a Teams meeting that I hosted. IN SUMMARY, I would come again. It is priced right for what it is. While the resort is outdated, the amenities are grand. You can live a good beach life without breaking the bank. read more

The only reason I would recommend this place is because of the location. You have direct beach access, it's easy to get in and out of, and it is conveniently located to Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing. The staff we encountered was fairly friendly. The parking garage is a tight fit, so if you have a larger vehicle use caution. There is a nice indoor and outdoor pool. Our biggest downfall was our room. As you can see in these pictures it needed some remodeling. The shower had black gunk in the seems, the vanity and area next to the tub was falling apart, the dressers were peeling apart, the fridge was covered in rust along with the lamps, and the carpet was coming up - there was even a cut piece just laying in the floor. If you want an ocean view - make sure you book an "oceanfront" room. read more

The pictures they show on the website of the rooms must be 30 or 40 years old. They are very, very rundown terrible musty smell the whole time, you can see for yourself in the pictures the condition of the room. It was absolutely terrible. Do not be fooled by the pictures online. the indoor and outdoor pools were fine actually pretty good. They had two hot tubs. One of them was out of order the whole 13 days we were there. The parking garage across from the hotel. I don't think you could've designed it worse if you tried and it's very, very tight. We stayed in the south tower so I don't know what the rooms are like in the north tower. I suppose it's possible they're nicer. They advertise housekeeping, which really means you can get towels and garbage bags. You be the judge just look at the pictures. It's a shame too because the staff was all very very friendly. I would give them a 4.5 rating out of five they were great friendly people. I guess it's not their fault the rooms are terrible. Our whole floor smell smelled like marijuana almost every day we were there. The elevators, almost constant marijuana smell. The stairs in the parking garage are absolutely filthy. I realize it's outdoors and it's a parking garage, but it was really bad. It didn't look like anybody had seriously cleaned or done any maintenance on our room in years. I could've posted 50 more pictures, but I just put a few. If I could've got a refund the first day I was there I would've left. We've been coming to MB at least twice per year and this is our go to resort. It has a laundry facility, bars, restaurants and the bell staff are amazing! It's a reasonably a priced Resort and most are efficiencies or you can get full-blown suites. You're looking for something very upscale and luxury this is not it but it's comfortable and clean. We always get ocean front because we love sitting on the balcony and drinking our coffee in the morning. We've actually looked into purchasing a condo here within the next few years. read more

If a hotel could be a Catfish, this would be it. We booked this hotel because of location and because the website looked as though the hotel was amazing with many amenities. We drive 6 hours and paid over $500 to arrive at this dump. We arrived at 2pm instead of 4pm but the desk staff informed us that our room was in fact ready and that we could check in early and that was great. We got to the room and the cleaning staff was still on the floor and a lady informed us that she had just sprayed bleach on the door handle...ok...we proceed carefully and cautiously as to not bleach our closets and luggage only to enter what can only be described as a dope hole. The room was atrocious. It was filthy and raggedy and the parts of the bed didn't connect to each other. I found a hypodermic needle cap and a hiding hole with what I assume was a forgotten bottle of dope. This room has definitely at one time or other been used to get high. I returned to the desk and the desk clerk was quite dismissive and told me that if I had a cleanliness issue, housekeeping could go back and the units are privately owned...no sir...I will not stay in the trap...let me show you pictures of where you all tried to put me...his response, oh, let me see where else we can put you. Long story short, he gave us a second room that wasn't quite as bad as the first but still horrible. I declined to accept that one as well and he sent us to a 3rd unit...this one was slightly cleaner and more conducive than the first two and I begrudgingly accepted considering that there is a no refund policy. We went out to get some sun at the pool area and take a dip, but the pool water left a slimy film on our skin...not just one pool...the outdoor pool, lazy river, indoor pool, and jacuzzi. The lazy river had the stench of sewage in that the restrooms were right beside it. Apparently, the walls in the rooms are made of paper because you can here conversation from room next door. The valet staff was very friendly though but parking was a total nightmare. Don't stay here...simple as that. If units are privately owned, it seems to me that there should be standards for maintaining those units because the state of the unit reflects on the result. If I could have given 0 stars, I would have...very sketchy, DO NOT STAY HERE. read more

I normally don't do reviews, but this one needed to be said. We took our first beach trip in 33 years with high hopes of a nice hotel and fun experience but that was not what we got at the Sands Ocean Club Resort we got a nightmare. We booked our hotel through Priceline and from the description, photos, and somewhat decent reviews, and a price we could afford without going a dump (So we thought) we picked this place. It was supposed to be a view of the ocean, clean room, family friendly, full bathroom with extra vanity, mini fridge, housekeeping (limited it says, I will get to that) we walked in the room and it smelled of mold and mildew (which recked havoc on my sinus) and water in the floor from the mini fridge that apparently defrosted and the water was coming out of the fridge. When then saw a door right beside the bed that connected to a joining room (which we did not know about it was not in the room description nor in any pictures) There was air on the bed sheets, so we slept on top of the beds not in them. We then went to look outside on the balcony to see the ocean view we paid for, and it was a view of the top the Ocean Annies Bar and the observation deck, you could see a few waves if you stood on your toes. Now to housekeeping, we never had anyone come to our room to ask if we needed towels or anything, we had to go to the front desk to ask for more towels, they said they should have knocked on our door, but no one did. When I saw a housekeeper outside our door, I asked her for some clean towels and she asked me if I was a time share or with the hotel (We didn't know they even had time share rooms, was not in hotel info) she said we could get charged for the towels if we were not supposed to have any. She then said the hotel is run by multiple owners, different parts of the hotel had different owners (This also wasn't something told to hotel guest) I also asked her for trash bags, I got one! and we had to take out our trash. I know the paper we got said limited housekeeping, but this was ridiculous. The room that joined our rooms together had a man staying on there and he blasted vulgar music several nights waking us up at 3:45 a.m. and the smell of pot coming in under the door, we had to put their precious towels under the door to help with the odor (Very common smell from most of the employees BTW) We were afraid to complain because they might make us leave, we didn't have the money to stay somewhere else, so we had to just stick out, but I don't want ANYONE else to have to do that like us, I want to give everyone a heads up about this place. We had 10 year old with us and they had to listen to that vulgar music and smell that, not a family environment at all! The day we checked out we also found out they stuck us in a different room then we were supposed to be in, when I called to talk to a manager (Not sure if they were though) she said they did do that, because an owner or something needed that room and they have the right to move you to a different room, I keep telling her that's false advertising and that's not what we paid for. The room we were supposed to get would have been on the 18th floor and that would have had our ocean view. instead, we were on the 2nd floor, and we got the bar view and at nice the view on our balcony was rocks with many, many roaches crawling on them...lovely! She said she couldn't give me a refund because I went through a third-party site to book the hotel (Priceline) I also told her I was calling the BBB and she said something along the lines of "Good you can do that" so I did even though they probably won't respond to the BBB. I also saw a complaint from someone else who said when they complained at the front desk that they made them leave...CRAZY So please don't stay at The Sands Ocean Club take your family to someplace nicer and check the BBB and AAA for a good hotel and don't rely on the hotel sites only read more

This resort is in urgent need for updating. It is filthy, rundown and has terrible cleaning staff! I've been going to this resort yearly since 1985 and have seen it deteriorate. From poor cheap outdated televisions to stained, sticky, flooring and poor plumbing. Noisy fans, no oven, mold and "dust bunnies" under the beds and chairs. Outdated repaired, (sometimes), furniture which seem to be from a second hand shop! I asked for housekeeping to wash the floors and was offered a mop to do it myself! One hot tub not working. The room we had (Feb/Mar 24) wasn't cleaned once during our stay! Towels twice... I will never return...end of an era...too many alternatives not to be competitive... This is the biggest dump on Myrtle Beach. One big $hit hole. The staff and managers are unprofessional and could care a less about their customers. My wife and I checked into our room and the refrigerator didn't work, hair dryer was ripped off the wall, cabinet door was falling off and had paint falling off it, the bed look like it's been in the room for about 40 years and had bed bugs you could actually see, cigarette on the floor. Popcorn textured ceiling, falling off the ceiling. Complete dump. Went downstairs and spoke to management. The manager wouldn't even come around the corner to talk to us or address us. We requested a full refund and the manager told us we would be charged a cancellation fee of $78 even when we were checking out after only being there 5 hours when they wouldn't move us to a different room with an oceanfront room that we paid for. We would never recommend this place to rat. This is by far the worst review I've ever written on anything in my life. Do not waste your money on this hotel. Checking in was great. We have stayed here many times before. This time we were put in the South Tower where the time shares are. Things went down hill from there. Smelly hall ways. The room was terrible. Dirty,smelly, and uncomfortable. Only place to sit was on a bed. No chairs. No table. My husband was a truck driver and has stayed in some questionable places. This is gonna be the most honest review of this hotel by far. This is definitely an older resort. There are 3 towers of rooms and it's pretty clear they have only renovated some of the rooms or maybe one tower at a time but either way there are still some old rooms with stains on the carpet and a little dust but it was far from "dirty". If you're expecting a 4-5 star resort, spend the extra $200 for one down the beach but if you want a decent and inexpensive place to stay, this is it! It has an indoor and outdoor pool as well as the lazy River and beach access. It has a beach bar, a restaurant, and a small club downstairs. No it is not a fancy tropical vacation spot but it absolutely does the job. My only complaints are the parking garages as they are kinda impractical. Will be staying again! read more

Attention timeshare owners and guests: When you arrive, make sure to ask the timeshare office to inspect your room before completing the check-in process. You have the right to do this. If you notice any black spots on the walls or ceiling, this indicates mold. If possible, request a room change. Be aware that if you choose to upgrade your room, the timeshare office may increase their prices to generate additional income. Typically, prices remain stable unless documented changes are communicated in the new mailings sent out in the fall or emails to owners. The timeshare office does not keep their office stocked enough for items if you are missing or in need of new items, do not rely on them. It might take hours to bring them to you or forget. The timeshare housekeepers only work afternoons, sometimes evenings. Barely! And the office closes at 5 pm, so anything you need after hours, go to the front desk. Good luck though, depending on their mood they might help you out. If you call the office and you are missing something they will make you search for those items before even thinking about bringing those missing items to your unit. I've seen them be disrespectful to RCI guests while waiting, if you're in customer service you need to be professional, especially in hospitality. You're dealing with guests from all over and other companies that are in timeshare. timeshare owners and guests don't have full access to the hotel amenities like regular hotel guests and owners. you are considered 3rd party. read more

Expensive and weak drinks. The resort is far from any type of town so I hope you have a vehicle. The best part of this resort was the restaurant, and even that had cockroaches scurrying around while we waited for our food. The room itself needs major updates and repairs. I am not a very picky person and even I was just saddened by what this room looked like. I am assuming it is private owned and so it seems they are causing this resort negative comments. I hate to be a downer but the room is just unsatisfactory. The picture I saw when booking seemed nice but this isn't at all what I expected. From very rusted patio tables to old comforters and molded curtains. It's to small of a room for 2 beds. And the furniture looks like it's been there since the 70s But the art work on the walls is modern. Also trash under the bed and dirty floors didn't help much. I hate to be negative and I know the beach rooms can get run down. But it's very important to keep up with your investment. read more

We had a great week here. Such friendly people working here; in the restaurants and bars. I love Ocean Annie's. The live music is amazing. I very much enjoyed karaoke at Sandals at the inside lounge as well. Our room was comfortable. It had a mini kitchen, which was very useful for us. The place probably needs a major overhaul as far as bringing it up-to-date. I mean, the popcorn ceilings and cords hanging down from the TV is very dated, but, regardless, we really enjoyed ourselves. I like how close it is to the beach. Our view was amazing from our room. I think the only negative comment would be for the spa services. I booked a one hour massage, but only got about 45 minutes. Tina, told me that this is standard, but I have had massages, all over the world, and 60 minutes means 60 minutes. That is my only negative comment. I've been coming here for 20 years and have always enjoyed my experiences. It's an older building (1985) but they put effort into keeping it clean and maintained. The heated indoor pool and jacuzzis mean going in the off season is still worth it. Can't say that about most other hotels, condos, or Air Bnbs. Other ammeneties include a lazy river, wading pool with waterfall, outdoor pool, poolside bar, inside bar, convenience store, ocean view from most rooms, beachfront access, and a spa. It feels like a budget resort. The location is excellent to access everything else in Myrtle Beach too. Never had an issues with other guests being noisy, rude, reckless, etc. even when the place is almost entirely booked up. A lot of the rooms are privately owned so the decorations and renovations such as flooring can be really nice. The price is great, especially considering all you get. You just have to accept that it's a 40-year-old building and not a flashy new backdrop for your instagram story. This place deserves more stars than some of these reviewers give. The only issues I have had were related to booking. There have been three times where my room has been accidently double booked or simply not booked at all. read more

After sitting at a table for 45 minutes, I go to the restroom security officer asked my wife not to have a styrofoam cup that it was illegal to have a styrofoam cup, and that she needed to purchase a drink from the bar. When I come back my wife tells me this and we go and get a drink from the bar. We sit and watch the fireworks and the tables behind us are celebrating his 50th birthday. Which we take pictures for them. As we are leaving the same security person comes up to my wife again and says I told you to purchase a drink from the bar. We show the receipt and ask for a manager to request to be left alone, we are leaving. After talking with management they informed us that if we had yeti cups or any non disposable cups security would have left you alone. Do not stay here. read more

Garage is super tight, finding a parking spot is difficult. You are not permitted to use a hotel luggage cart. I think they must only have two. LOL. Hotel is dirty once ya get passed the lobby. Our room was pretty junky. Beat up drty furniture, hairs in the tub and sink. Broken Closet Door...the list goes on. Even our chairs on balcony were broken. I guess private individuals own these rooms, but Cmon...you must update and clean. I as on the ocean a good bit, so I tolerated the disappointing appearance of room. I think I was in RM 321. Attempted to enjoy the lil night club, but never received any service. No one came to table to take a drink order. Dont get your hopes up w this place. It is close to the ocean though. read more
