My husband and I recently moved to LA and were so lucky to be introduced to Doug and Nicki! We've…read morebeen taking private lessons from them. Not only are they the cutest couple I've ever seen, they are the most kind, talented and knowledgeable in the business! They go at your pace, thoroughly describe each move, and really allow you to have fun and enjoy the process! They have a great foundation ("The Triangle") that they teach off of to help you grasp the basics and advance from there; ie basic sugar push, basic right side pass, basic whips to all the more advanced and stylized versions. It's also rare to have two instructors in the room with you, which is my favorite part! Nicki points out things that Doug might not see and vice versa, which I believe helps us advance quicker. They both dance with us individually so we can also feel how the movement works. These are the best in the business, no joke. Their skill level, patience, and ability to communicate sets them a part! They are worth every penny! I wish we could keep them here in LA, but excited for their next journey!

He's not here to rip you off like some dance schools/instructors out there. He helped us pick out a song, and taught us some basic steps with a little flair to help us along. He's patient, fun, funny, forgiving (even when I stepped on his feet a few times too many), not to mention super cute. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Thanks Doug!

I go for the most fun, wonderful, queer-friendly hip-hop dance class in the entire world, Swagger. The teacher is probably the most patient, upbeat dance teacher I've ever encountered - you can tell she really loves what she does and so do her students. I recommend it, and any other class at Center Space, to beginning dancers and more advanced dancers of all stripes!

She's not only an incredible dancer but also a fantastic and confident teacher--a rare combination in the dance world. Having tried many dance classes over the last 3 years in NYC, DC, San Fran, and Seattle, I can now declare that hers is among the very best out there. Dance has long been one of the less appreciated/understood arts in Portland, which maybe is why Mariecella has flown largely under the radar for much of her career. But anyone of any level looking for a fun Hip-Hop dance class would do well to jump into one of hers. Hot beats and plenty of space to make the dance your own.

We were apprehensive about moving studios after arriving in Portland from Arizona. We loved our…read moreprevious studio and worried we'd never find anything as good. We were blissfully wrong!! Both my daughters have flourished under the current instruction at Inspire! All of the instructors have provided tremendous leadership and growth for my dancers. Can there be a rough day occasionally? Sure, but that's life! 99% of the time my girls come out of class having worked hard and had fun. This is definitely a pre-professional studio, and the dancers are treated as if this can be their profession after graduation. Their competitive teams are amazing, but I adore that the focus isn't only on competition. The technique classes are FAR more important. Participation in The Nutcracker is also a must! The girls do an amazing job, rivaling the professional shows downtown We look forward to it every year.

The dance instruction IS rigorous, but we found it to be anything but inspiring. A harsh environment is cultivated, and it is not at all unusual for students to be humiliated in class and made to cry. There are favored dancers, who are all in the highest level, and the levels below that are generally treated pretty harshly. There is a level of controlling-ness (for example, dictating across the board that all students must wear a certain brand of pointe shoes, regardless of what may work best for each individual student) that is ridiculous. My teenage daughter's confidence was pretty much destroyed during her time at Inspire; although she was accepted into three prestigious summer intensives, she believes that she's "a bad dancer" thanks to the messages she received at Inspire. Heavy on criticism, sometimes downright mean, skimpy on encouragement. I don't typically write Yelp reviews, but I feel compelled to share our experience on this one. We are relieved to be moving on from Inspire.

I tried other studios in the past, but ultimately felt a sense of family and belonging here. The instructors did an incredible job of challenging me while also allowing me to grow at my own pace which is not always the case at every studio. The Worthington's are truly like family to me, and I have made friendships to last a lifetime. Now as an instructor, I feel incredibly grateful to have had these experiences as I get to teach other kids during such formative years of their life. Confidence, musicality, kindness and connection are some of the attributes you can expect to gain from coming to Maralee's Dance.

She was quick to respond and so incredibly generous, offering not only their space but access to their tables, chairs, lights, sound system, beverages, everything we could ever want or need. Not only that, but the staff here were so helpful and supportive along the way, offering to help set up and asking nothing in return. Everyone had such a fun and memorable time dancing the day away. So thankful for Maralee's!
