The designer referred me then to Chris Mikus, owner operator of Safeguard. Chris, the designer, and I established an agreeable scope of work and he put together a proposal. Check this out: He uses the EXACT same software my insurance company uses for estimating costs whereas The first contractor merely wrote down hand written sentences on paper of work he would do. That frustrated the insurance company; i had to keep going between insurance and contractor, and all that ended when his prices were exorbitant and he refused to lower his price. In came Chris, he took a day or two and input the drawings, measurements, cost of materials, labor etc. and sent that FILE to my insurance agent. (With the other guy I took pictures of his hand written estimate. You can imagine how annoying that was for them). Then when the Ins Company got the paper bid, they laughed out loud on the phone!! Safeguard was a red-tape savior and actually influenced the ins company to release more funds later on. Thank God! **** Then on top of that, the quality of work was Outstanding. His prime employee, Jake was faithful, diligent, well-measured, and committed to excellence. We removed a wall, a pantry, replaced an island, extended countertop space another 10 feet. See pics. I can't speak directly to their contracting work as I was unable to hire them. This review is…read moreabout their communication ability. I was looking to hire Safeguard to remodel a basement bathroom and possibly next door laundry room. I believe it was Chris who came out and took a look at the job. This was right before a holiday week and he said he'd get back to me with estimates by Friday in 2 weeks. When I did not get a call by the date, I called back myself the following Weds. Chris was "in the field" but he would get back to me. Cue another wait. I made one more attempt on Friday and this time was told Chris would get back to me as soon as he finished with another client in the office. No call this time either. I have no idea why I was ghosted. I don't know if my project was too small, my budget too small (5 figures for a bathroom), or my expectations unrealistic. It would be nice to know as I may have been able to adjust my expectations. Safeguards pictures look like they do good work, but I'll never know because their communication sucks.
