They are both happily off to their first-choice colleges, and we could not have done it without Tutor Associates and their amazing tutors.

Very creative "out of the box" activities for kids, like a Polar Express day in the winter and an egg hunt with the Easter bunny in the spring. Fantastic new director who has motivated the school and brought fresh ideas. For example, there is now a developmental therapist and a child psychologist on call with retake programming for parents (eg how to discipline, sleep training, etc). The art program Is best in class - This year they instituted "night of art" with a local museum curator, wine, and walls of art made by the kids. Fantastic but selective pre school given it is a feeder school for St Ignatius elementary.

We were so excited about this school - it's beautiful, we love the philosophy, they have great exmissions, they said they took the children to play in the park nearby. And our first year in a toddler room was magical. The teacher was a phenomenal resource, our son grew and made some terrific friends, and we were excited for him to go to primary. Well, primary was a disaster. He had a young and inexperienced teacher who meant well, but telegraphed her disapproval of our high-spirited, high-energy, emotionally still very young kid so that our formerly school-loving child started melting down at every dropoff. An administration that wouldn't accommodate a request for change to a classroom where he had good friends, and seemed ill-equipped (or ill-inclined) to help him in general. When he needed extra physical movement, they had him walk in a circle along a piece of tape stuck to the floor. Carrying a cotton ball on a spoon. Which, as you've probably noticed, is not playing in the nearby park. No one said anything nice about our son to us at all until we informed them of our decision to leave. We went back to an AMS lab Montessori school in a different state, and the contrast is extreme. Teachers with decades of experience, lots of communication and support, lots of ability to respond to the needs of individual children who mature at different rates in different areas. The entire administration of the new school knows his name and says hello to him in the halls. Outdoor playground time every single day. And, it must be said, it's half the price. You might have an excellent experience at Flatiron. I hope you do. I wish we had.

I couldn't ask for, or even imagine, anything better. The administration/ownership is bad. Aloof is probably too generous an adjective. It's Trumpian in the sense that it seems centered on what furthers their own idiosyncratic goals (eg prestige, donations, growth); which might not be the same as yours or your child's. In the end (if you can manage the tuition, and don't need any favors from the administration) it's a wonderful place.

My parents registered me for SHSAT classes here after probably being approached on the street with…read moreflyers. The staff from this place seemed to be everywhere, handing out flyers like they were the hottest concert tickets in town. My parents probably got roped in by one of those enthusiastic paper-pushers and there we were a few months later... enrolled and ready to study. We got some discounts due to my parents' negotiation skills. You also get a $50 discount if you max out on the elementary state exam and bring proof (definitely do this -- ethically or... not). Despite having taken all the exams and now being a college student, I still receive letters from this place. Just the other day, I found one with my name despite being years into my college degree and almost ready to graduate, and I couldn't help but laugh--talk about commitment. I spent a couple of years here tackling both the SHSAT and SAT. The teachers were passionate, and they gave out report cards to track our progress, which was nice. However, posting test scores on the hallway walls felt more toxic than motivating. Also, some of their SHSAT prep material was questionable. Did it help? Well, I got into an Ivy League, but I wouldn't attribute all my success to this place. It's not as bad as some reviews claim. It's a mixed bag--passionate teachers and solid progress tracking, but the public scoreboards and some questionable prep materials bring it down a notch. And if nothing else, they're certainly persistent in keeping in touch!
