This review is long overdue for such amazing service we received on our road trip through Santa Barbara. We can check engine light come on and thought it could be something serious. We pulled into this shop and immediately found how special these people are. Caring, kind and helpful beyond the call is an understatement. I let the gas station attendant know that the air machine wasn't working and instead of checking it, he sat there and told me "if you don't know what you're doing, pay the cashier $10 and he'll do it for you". When I responded that I know exactly what I'm doing and it's weird to charge me to fix their own machine, he said "it's not weird, this isn't a free service". Not budging from his seat, he continued demanding payment to check the air machine. From there, it took a full argument for an employee to finally come out and address their machine's malfunction. And no, it was not user error like the attendant ignorantly claimed. Not only was he blatantly disrespectful for no apparent reason other than sexism, his behavior was illegal according to CA Code Section 13651. If you expect basic civility with your patronage, don't spend money here. read more

All the other complaints are totally valid. It has available pumps but it's the least expensive gas in Santa Barbara....why you ask? because the workers are rude! You take 5 minutes before you pump? forget it! they'll be at your window telling you to get gas or leave. It feels so toxic! read more

Cheapest gas downtown. But, they aren't incredibly helpful or friendly if you ever have to deal with them. Also, they do not top off propane, they charge 20 dollars regardless of how much propane you get, so go somewhere else for propane. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This is the worst customer service I've ever received, and borderline illegal behavior. Driving through downtown Santa Barbara at 7:30 pm, I got a warning that my tire was critically low. I pulled into the nearest gas station (Santa Barbara Gas) to pump enough air into my tire to get my car home. The air pump had no sign on it saying it was off, or out of order. The gas station was open and there was an attendant inside. There was no indication whatsoever that the air would not work. I inserted 3 quarters. My only quarters. The machine didn't turn on. I went inside to talk to the attendant (who gave his name as Cesar). He told me that he turned the machine off. I asked him if he could turn it back on. He said no. It would take too long and he wanted to leave soon. So I asked for my quarters back so I could go elsewhere. He vehemently refused to return them and said "you're really going to make this big of a deal over 75 cents?". I explained that I had no more quarters and all the machines take quarters only. He told me if I couldn't pay elsewhere, to just drive home. I told him my tire was almost flat and I live half an hour away. He told me it wasn't his problem and said "please leave". There's nothing on g-d's green earth that could get me to ever use this station for anything ever again. read more

My friends and I stopped here during our roadtrip home as we were looking all around town for a bathroom. This guy was sitting on a chair out front and told us he has no bathroom for us unless we bought something so we politely agreed and went inside to buy some snacks in exchange for the bathroom key. The worker was a total creep and just making a ton of weird comments and accused my friend of vaping in the store when we was biting his nail and none of us vape. We all wanted to get out of there asap so we took the bathroom key and did our business. Then we we came back to the car my friends who stayed in the car said the worker told them to "Get off the property!" since they weren't getting gas even though a couple of us were customers and still using the restroom. As we were about to leave we had one friend still in the bathroom and my other friend starts moving the car per the workers request when he then comes chasing after our car accusing us of stealing the bathroom key. Our friend then comes back from the bathroom with the key he gave to the worker and we all got out of there asap. DO NOT come here unless you want to be harassed by a lowlife control freak gas station attendant. In a way I feel bad for this dude as he's probably just lonely and has nothing else in his life but this job that he sucks at. read more

I challenge you to find lower-priced fuel in Santa Barbara! Santa Barbara Gas is known for offering inexpensive gasoline. Affordable? No. $0.30 cheaper than the competition? Yes. The station is in downtown Santa Barbara and has seen better days. It's pretty rundown on the outside and I wouldn't trust swiping my card directly at the pump. There are only four pumps, and there's also an auto shop attached. They offer a propane fill-up service which is a rarity, too. Contrary to the exterior, the inside cashier station is surprisingly tidy. There are a very small amount of refreshments, the older gentleman behind the counter is pretty friendly, and the POS machine allows for tap payment. A decent shop overall. I can't comment on the quality of the fuel, but my bulletproof Toyota would probably operate if I poured canola oil into it (don't worry, I'd never do that!). If you're looking to save a bit on your next fuel purchase, check this place out. read more

I tried to have 2 propane tanks filled. The cashier told me they could do it if I watched the storefront to make sure nobody stole anything. Um, ok, I did that. He then came back in and rang me up for both tanks, and told me the tanks were in the back. I went to the back, and only one had been filled. I went back into the store and asked him why, and he said (almost word for word here) "It's a flat fee per tank, whether the tanks work or not. I don't have any responsibility to tell you if your tanks are bad." Yeah, one of my tanks was bad. I was kind of surprised and said that was kind of weird that he didn't tell me that one was bad before ringing me up. He got irrationally angry and started berating me for yelling at him (I wasn't yelling at him), then started crying. I left, because I'm like no I am not doing any of this drama. I went back the next day to talk to Ray, the owner, who I'd met before. I told him what happened and asked for a refund for one of the tanks. He said that the same cashier had had another problem with a customer earlier in the day, and Ray had to go over and deal with it, so he wasn't surprised. Then Ray said that if I had the tank with me then he would look at it and then decide what to do, but since I didn't have it it was just too bad. I'm like hey I don't care about the $20, but you not offering a refund when you know your employee is the real problem here is lame, and now with your response there's two problems. I needed air in a tire. The corner of Bath and Carrillo I pulled asked the guy to hit the air. He responds "it is .75 cents." Literally saying no unless you pay money, in the state of California it is illegal to charge for air. Then my son went in an asked for quarters. Again NO what a crappy place with a junky attitude. Usually I get my gas here because it is one of the cheapest in town. Been coming here for years while newest low cost gas statIons have bloomed in this town. Today, again, I fill up my tank and decide to wash my windows (all of them, because I am going on a trip). Noticing that I was taking time to wash them he asked me to park on the side away from the pomp's. Point taken and agreed. As I am almost finished one of the guys tells me -" lady go wash your windows else where this is a gas station here " I told him that he has the washing broom thingy for that purpose, had just spent $65 on my gas so I used what is at the disposal for his customers! He got angry and in bad faith told me that I had been here for 45 min. I proceeded to finished my front windshield and pointed out to him that I had been here for 15 min and that he was no longer the cheapest gas in tow so I would give my business elsewhere. He continued to get mad and said: good go elsewhere!! I much prefer to spend couple more cents/gallon and not be yelled at because I am washing my car windows. I looked online to find the best gas prices in Santa Barbara and was surprised the lowest price was a few blocks away at Santa Barbara Gas. It is a station that I pass at least 10 times a week but never noticed or gave it a thought. I drove up and saw a gentleman in a uniform hand a flower to the passenger in the car next to me. I thought it must be a friend. Like in the days of yore, this gentleman offered to help me pump my gas, then proceeded to ask me what my favorite color flower was. He had a flower bed in the corner of the property at the gas station. I told him they were beautiful but to "let the flowers live" :-) It has been so many years since I have seen someone actually come out from the office and offer to help except for the 76 station at Santa Monica Rd. but that's 10 Miles out of my way. The gas was 15 cents less per gallon than my usual station. I told Ray, he just earned a new loyal customer! read more

"I dont care"...direct quote from the person in charge (Ray???) July 7th, 2021 to an 11 year old. DO NOT USE THIS GAS STATION if you support establishments that are family and patron friendly. As a family traveling hundreds of miles to visit my Alma Mater UCSB, my 11 year old really needed to use the restroom. Since I drive and travel extensively for work as a financial advisor, I have made it a habit, through trial and error, to make sure that any gas station I use, are patron friendly. It is tough for me to give a gas station that thrives off my business but does not make their restrooms available for their patrons that spend their hard earned money at their establishment. When we decided to pull into Santa Barbara Gas, we saw their restroom located on the exterior side of the building. The internal left pump and exterior right, which were the easiest for me access in our exteneded SUV, were not available. My 11 year old daughter needed to severely use the restroom. She has a weak bladder. I pulled to the side of building so she could easily access the bathroom. When my wife stepped out of the car with our 11 year old to ask about a key for the bathroom, the person in charge said they could not use the restroom since we weren't putting gas. My wife told him that we were going to but I had parked to the side so they could get off and that I was waiting for the pumps to open and he told them they couldn't use the restroom. I saw them walk back to the car. I immediately knew what had happened. Once they got back inside the car my wife confirmed. She stated that the person that was attending the inside of the station denied them use of the bathroom because we weren't buying gas. I became upset because the regularity of not allowing patrons to use their restrooms was becoming more and more of a norm. I parked my car next to the left interior pump as soon as it became available. I was ready to fill my car with gas but wanted to explain to him why we hadn't filled the car with gas. I walked up to him and told him verbatim, "just so you know, I am someone who waits to see if the gas station allows us use their bathrooms before using their gas. I have filled up many times at someone's gas station and they still have not let us use their restrooms. You are losing a potential business customer." The person in charge looked at me and said, "I dont care". I looked at him in disbelief and said, "it's clear you really dont give a (expletive for doodoo) and walked away upset. DO NOT USE THIS GAS STATION if you support establishments that are family and patron friendly. I own a business and could never trust an establishment that says "I dont care", especially when it concerns a child. This dude is a real scam artist. Will take your money gladly but does not care about the quality of service he provides. Went to get a Lyft inspection and he charges $25 pass or fail. He failed my inspection for a bogus reason (said the tread on my tires were too low when they weren't). Had to go somewhere else where they laughed at his opinion. If you need your car inspected for Lyft, this isn't your only option, but it is your worst option. Avoid at all costs. read more

When all smog tests offer exactly the same service, why go to someone who is rude? I've been coming here for six years. When my smog test failed because a computer monitor failed and I asked ray if he could offer a discount on the repeat, he asked me "Why should I?" A simple no would have been understandable, but Ray was rude about it so I'm writing this review. I have no idea if, in the history of smog tests, anyone has ever gotten a discount on a repeat test but I don't feel like it was out of line to ask. He was also out of low octane gas and when a customer asked about it, he said "yes but the high octane gas is the same price as he low octane." Did you know it's bad for your car to put high octane gas in an engine meant for low octane? I bet Ray did, but he's happy to take her money. Did he tell her to put high octane gas in? No. A little unethical if you ask me though. read more
