The most pleasant experience I've had in taking my precious baby to the mechanic!! I drive by Smog-It almost every day on my way home from work, and since I first laid eyes on its beautiful, iconic-looking exterior, I've said to myself how I'd love to take my car there one day. For some reason, the exterior alone made me feel like this shop would be too out of my price range. I was walking by this business and I stopped and inquired about getting my car smogged. They said no appointment necessary and it would only take about ten(10) minutes. I returned a few days later. With my paperwork and he said I could take a ten minute walk and it would be sixty ($60) dollars. Like one other reviewer said "A NO BRAINER!" Nice clean shop. read more

Never had a better experience with a vehicle-related service. I had first gone to a different smog place on Haley and waited for them to open. Fifteen minutes after their opening time still no one shows up so I bailed and went to Smog It, directly across from the entrance to the Santa Barbara Bowl. Definitely should have gone there first. They have tons of parking, it's on a big corner lot - former gas station that even has a restored vintage gas pump on it. Very cool. Clean and organized. The owner Johnny was friendly, chatty and happy to be there. Did the test, petted the dog, paid the bill ($60) and outta there in 10/15 minutes. Some might say you could find a cheaper place but I wasted more of my valuable time than that waiting for the sub-standard other place to open. Man I love Santa Barbara. read more

I'm not sure why the rating is so low here. This shop is excellent. It is clean, comfortable, and has friendly service. They are open early on Saturday mornings as well. I usually go to another shop for smog checks that is about $5-10 less expensive, but they weren't open and I needed a smog quickly to sell a car. I'm glad I did and this will be my new go-to. It is worth a few extra bucks to have such a nice experience and to get in and out so quickly. The location is also convenient and easy to access. Waiting for the test is comfortable and easy. The mechanic noticed a low tire pressure signal that happened to come on and just filled the tire on his own. Very nice touch. read more

I showed up just before they opened, and the whole thing took less than 10 minutes. The technician who did the smog check was able to take payment over the phone which I very much appreciated. I was surprised to read some of the 1 star reviews which is where I usually start when deciding whose service I want to use. I have to say they sound bogus and stupidly written, perhaps by competitors. Had they gone back to either John or Tom they would have responded and worked with their customer to resolve any issue. My name is Stephen Wheeler, I am a CPA and very familiar with how auto repair shops work. Smog It is not one of my clients by the way, My son and I have been taking our cars to John and Tom for 10 years and have never had an issue with the service they provide or the work that they do. Tom, the former owner, works for John and he has worked on a couple of my cars and after having tried using several other shops, I would say this guy is amazing at what he knows. I can't speak for newer cars, my cars are a 2003 Cooper, 81 VW Vanagon and a 58 Rambler. When my Vanagon had smog issues, Tom knew what to do to repair it to get the emissions to meet the tests. When I picked up the car once, it wasn't running well, I took it back a bit upset and Tom knew exactly what to do. We all make mistakes, the difference is owning up to them and taking care of it as opposed to covering them up. Smog It will take care of any customers issue as long as they have been made aware of it. I would ignore the one star ratings and take your car for Smog certification and other repairs that they might offer. These guys are a breath of fresh air when it comes to several other shops I have used in the past. I always write reviews, they empower us the consumers to make informed decisions but when it comes to reviews, you have to read them carefully. read more

I had my smog test here, they charged me $200 for a smog test report. I thought this was overcharged but I ignored it, however when I tried to register the vehicle through Dmv, turns out the smog report was fake. I tried to reach them out and ask if there's something wrong or what, but the decided to block my number instead of helping me. This is a huge spam and I would NOT recommend this place. read more

I have a bit of a car thing so I find myself needing a smog for a vehicle ever other month or so. Smog-it on Haley has been my go to place for the last few years and here is why. They don't require an appointment which is super handy if your a procrastinator and not looking to make a change. They know their stuff, I have had several older cars that have failed and I have chosen to have Smog-It do the repairs. The repairs have always been done quick and because they do this everyday they pretty much know what needs to be fixed by the time the failure has occurred. They have also come in at lower prices for this type of work then other mechanics I have used. The most important reason I go to Smog It is that these guys are honest. I had a car that I though would need some work so I left the car with them. They expected to need to do work so they told me to leave it overnight. The car ended up fine so they Did the smog and that was it! They could have done some work and bill me but instead got the car to pass with a simple Smog and sent me on my way. I will keep bringing my cars here for Smog checks and the only reasons I don't give them a 5-Star is that the waiting room is a bit tired. read more

I will never go back to this place. Took my truck, didn't smog. I was told they could fix it and pass it for about $150. I didn't have time to stick around so I said I'd be back. Went back and the price went up to $600. Took my truck to Fernando's Smog in Goleta and it passed with no additional work. These guys are crooks read more
