Just like the rest of the gas burning car owners out there in the world, we need to get smogged every year and every year "in the past" I would be scrabbling to find the right smog shop. Well I found the most iconic smog shop in Santa Barbara. What a gem...not only is this place named after the city we live in but it is a shop filled with some really cool model cars, old bicycles, go carts, license plates and many other trinkets to gaze at while your waiting. They are also true to their word when they say you are in and out in 20mins of less. I really don't think I will be going anywhere else to get my car smogged again....EVER ! They charged me for a full smog service even though they could have immediately told me I wasn't going to pass due to a check engine light coming on. I would have been very happy if they asked me to return after getting the check light fixed, but they didn't and I paid full price. They also wanted to know why I was getting smogged in SB instead of Ventura! I got the uncomfortable feeling they were insinuating my intentions were suspect. Not a good experience. After getting the check light repaired (it was from a low battery, and did not effect operation of the car), I got it smogged at a different shop. Won't be returning to Santa Barbara smog shop. read more

My go-to no frills, no shills smog shop. I hate the DMV, but when a smog is due, I'd come here. No appointment necessary if they're not busy. You go in and a friendly guy greets you, and you're on your way after a quick lunch (About 20 minutes). I like this place because the guy there never upsold me anything and just let me take the smog test, no questions asked. Honestly, I think service and speed is great compared to other places I've been to for smog shops but this one's the best one on my list. read more

Went in for a last minute smog need and was able to be seen on the spot. The shop has an incredible vintage bike collection that's a dream to admire! ( I also have a vintage bike collection but not nearly as amazing as theirs). Welcoming service done quickly. It was a great price too! I highly recommend bringing your car here. Went for an oil change and asked for my washer fluid to be filled as it was out and told them I would pay for it. It didn't get done which I figured they forgot and it was fine. However I noticed I got charged for all fluids and pressures checked. They didn't mention the washer fluid being low or fill it and there was no recording of the tire pressures. I called to ask what the charge was for and the guy was so incredibly rude. "That's the least of our priority" and "most customers fill it themselves". I've owned this car for almost 20 years and 1 never filled it myself, 2 have never had any issue getting it filled and 3 I said I would pay for it! He also said I wasn't charged for it when I was looking at the line item for it on my receipt. He said they up charge the oil change so they don't charge for it? They do up charge I will say as this oil change was about $40 dollars more than my last. If he was just normal about the situation and not immediately rude it would've been totally fine. He did offer for me to come back in at the end of the conversation for the washer fluid but I was a bit intimidated at that point. read more

Making this review 100 for SB Smog Shop! Going to get a smog check is always nerve wracking wondering if your car will pass or not. Thankfully my car passed yay! I made an appointment, arrived 10 minutes early and was escorted into the garage right away. Got my car checked in, sat in the waiting area and before I knew it they were done in under 15 minutes! I was told 20 minutes when I called to make an appointment but was very pleased it was less than that. If you are due for a smog check soon then look no further! Ricardo is Fantastic! Smog checks and works on all kinds of autos including old cars. Nicest family business in all of Santa Barbara with his sons Christian and Damien working by his side. Does a great job, gives great advice, always tries to help us figure out inexpensive options before suggesting an expensive job. A sitting area to wait, only 20 minutes. You can see how many people come to him and give him their plates from all over. Fun to see with all the bicycles hanging from the ceiling. Very good. No b.s. and a total sweetheart. Amazing, Ricardo and the employees can juggle. I had to park on the side originally, there were so many cars there and yet I was out in 20 minutes. He was so fun to talk to, I ended up just sitting and chatting instead of going on a walk. He gave me five bucks off for mentioning Yelp, and even agreed to a free retest for me, which wasn't part of the original deal I looked up. I got a few recommendations for a smog place, but looked them up and found they had awful reviews, so I decided to go with this one and I'm glad I did. Once I got home, I asked my boyfriend if he thought I got a good deal and made the right choice, having himself smogged so many cars in the last year alone. He said Wow, this is the guy I would have told you to go to. Ricardo made sure that I backed out safely, even took a picture for me, and let me know that I could go to Triple A instead of the DMV to register my car. Whoops! My wife reminded me that my smog & registration was due that very day. After checking Yelp, I decided to give SB Smog Shop a try. I showed up a little bit before lunch time, and they were able to fit me in after only waiting for about 20 minutes. No complaints there; I thought that this was very acceptable, considering the time of day and the fact that I had no appointment. The test went really quickly, and luckily my car passed. Before I knew it I was on my way. It was also nice that the guy stood out in the street and helped me back out onto the road as I was leaving. It's these little things that ensure repeat business. So...I was in & out of the Smog Shop in a half hour (give or take) then I hustled over to the DMV to pay my registration fee, and waited for over 2.5 hours for a transaction that takes 2 minutes max.
