We were picked up on time in the morning and got to see how the balloons is inflated. We took tons of pictures. The ride was supposed to be 45 mins but we got a good 60 mins. Refreshments are offer at the ride of the ride, and you get a certificate and the story of how the first ballon was create. Then we are taken back to the hotel. read more

The ride was so mesmerizing- the glide, the especially soft ride, pilot David was totally in control from sunrise until the finish. He hovered across the landscape, we saw and videotaped six white tailed rabbits, the new coyote- supposed to be good luck to all visualizing it in the wild from an air balloon. Moses mentioned that he had not been up on too many of the flights as he was part of the launching and recovery crew, and that he had never seen a coyote from a balloon- we were all blessed that day. When we arrived at the initial launching point David and the crew analyzed all the weather in the area and wind patterns like meteorologists. After a few minutes they decided to take us to a secondary launching point which they believed would put us in a Icy better wind pattern. We cruised about five minutes and then they said ok stretch your legs while we get ready and we had time to view the perfect sunrise come over the mountains to our east- pictures and videos galore...then we got to get up and close as they turned on the gas and flames shot up into the balloon to fill 'er up so that we could fly! Once we got in and the more-than-experienced crew made sure we were good to go- David who has won multiple State Championships took us up and down the trails and mountains- we were just so happy- all eight of us- it was so quiet up there and he proved that you did not need to always be high above the terrain- no we cruised along the valleys and mountains like he driving a hovercraft ten feet above the ground at times. It was absolutely the smoothest ride that I have ever experienced. Good on Santa Fe Balloons and David and his exceptional crew- they were all so gracious that all eight us helped to deflate the balloon and pack it away for another day...another day we would like to experience as David had told us during flight- everyday is different but always GRAND!!! I would never try one of the balloon companies in Albuquerque as it is dirty down there and you have the best pilot in David and best crew with SANTA FE BALLOONS! What an unforgettable experience! Hot air balloon has been on my bucket list for years. I would say I wanted to go to Albuquerque and do the festival for my birthday but the crowds, and overpriced rides made me feel a bit discouraged. Well, on our trip to Santa Fe, we finally got to scratch that off my list. With a bit of research, my guy found this company. Contacted them, and arranged everything. We were picked up at our AirBnb, early AM. After picking up a couple more people along the way, we stopped at a fast food place for us to get some coffee/ food and restroom break. Then it was off to the field were our balloon experience would take place. We rode in the car with Johnny and what a treat that was. He told us how he started in the business, all the trips he's done, and would add funny anecdotes and comments that would make us laugh and anticipate the ride even more. Once we got to the filed it was all business. Jokes and stories were put on hold and the team worked on getting both balloons up and ready for us. Each balloon fits about 8 people, and they go through all safety rules and instructions right before take-off. Once in the air, Johnny started joking again, keeping us entertained and in a great happy mood, telling us where we were going, explaining how he directs the balloon, and giving us some breathtaking views. After maybe 40 - 45 minutes we were on the ground, were we were welcomed back with mimosas, cheese and crackers and some other bites, and a beautiful certificate indicating we completed our trip. While we ate and drank, we got to talk to the rest of their team and they are all so friendly and nice, they kept the happy tone of the tip all the way til the end. Wow what an incredible morning! Johnny picked us up from our hotel where the fun began. He is quite a character and he made the journey entertaining with his jokes and stories.once we arrived at the launch site he explained to us the details of our flight while our balloon named "Bubba" was inflating. Our one hour flight was scenic and gentle. After our easy landing we were served champagne and a nice breakfast. An experience that won't be forgotten! The entire crew was fantastic and friendly. As the pilot and owner, Johnny Lewis, might say 'this was not my first rodeo' Two years ago I was dragged on a balloon ride in Taos by my husband kicking and screaming but I ended up really enjoying it. So when we returned to the Land of Enchantment, I did not complain. I researched Balloons in Santa Fe and found Johnny. Johnny is larger than life, a real 6th generation Texan who looks straight out of the Wild West. He is also an experienced pilot who told me that he built his first balloon beginning in high school in the late 1960s, because back then it wasn't a thing. He has traveled all over the world for National Geographic and movies and has taught many a pilot how to fly Balloons including our first one, Sol, up in Taos who was also excellent. Johnny promised us that we would not get hurt because his first rule was not to get hurt himself which means that it trickles down to his riders. He goes out every day even during Covid(on without customers) because he loves what he does. So if you want a safe and beautiful ride with a colorful pilot, Santa Fe Balloons is a great bet! What a great morning. The pilot and the crew were very efficient and informative. We had two riders who claimed that they were afraid of heights. Those two never felt afraid or unsafe for even a minute. The pilot picked us up and took us on a short ride to a remote area where we were going to fly. During the ride he told us about himself and his experience as a pilot and answered our questions. The flight itself was amazing. The scenery was beautiful and the balloon was calm and peaceful. We booked a flight for my daughter's 15th birthday so she was real excited to go-the daredevil in her. Anyway, Jeanne came to pick is up from our hotel at 4:30am. She was a real sweet heart-great to talk to on our drive to the launch point. The winds were faster/less predictable than desired and flight was going to be cancelled but the winds slowed down a bit and we were able to take off! Johnny-the owner is a very experienced balloon pilot so we felt real comfortable. We were fortunate to go because other balloon companies had cancelled their flights due to unpredictable winds. Johnny is a real funny guy so we had a great time. We were able to fly low to have a great view of the canyons so view was breath-taking. At the end of flight Jeanne set-up with snacks, champagne and drinks. My daughter accidentally left the cork hot air balloon Johnny made for her when we were dropped off at the hotel so she was sad to lose the momento for her birthday. They later dropped off the cork balloon for her and really made her day! We had a shorter flight than normal due to winds but we were so happy Johnny took us and made our daughter's birthday so special! What a great experience and a truly great team! My husband has wanted to ride in a hot air balloon his entire life. My son and I are not so into heights, so we drove out separately to watch him go up and then land. We actually went down the wrong dirt road and our car got stuck. I was so upset, but my husband had cellular reception even in his balloon, and he told Johnny, who contacted his team member Jeannie, who actually DROVE OUT to rescue us in her badass truck. She brought us to the landing site because she needed to be there to help with the landing. After the landing and festivities (which were so nice!), another team member, Merlin, and a guy whose name I didn't get drove us back to our car and LITERALLY hauled it out for us. Talk about service! They never once made us feel bad (I felt bad enough!) and were just so cool and friendly.
