My city-mouse friend mentioned that she had always dreamed of petting a horse, so when we drove past an eclectic looking stable with gorgeous horses (seriously looks like something out of a movie), I figured it was worth a shot to see if we could meet the animals. I told my friend, "What's the worst they could say? No?" I parked my car and walked up to what looked like the main building, and I was greeted by a sleepy grey cat and outrageously cute little dog. A man that I presume is the owner followed behind the dog and asked me if I needed help. After pitching my request to him, offering money to let my friend just spend some time visiting the horses, he kindly told me that we were welcome to respectfully walk around for free. He told us we could meet any horse that came up to us, but reminded us to not feed the horses. By the looks of the horses, the man I spoke to clearly cares for these animals deeply, and I was really taken by the cleanliness and health of the horses. In the end, my friend was able to meet a horse for the first time, and my kids loved seeing the beautiful animals. They especially loved the sweet grey cat and inquisitive one-eyed horse. We will definitely be back to schedule a ride here, as I was so impressed by the animals and thankful for the kindness we were shown. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Broken Saddle!

Many of O'Keefe's most well-known works were bought up by bigger museums (Met, Art Institute of Chicago, etc), and so this museum mainly has smaller pieces and studies. The curation is a bit thin, loosely chronological with some decent historical commentary, but not much placement within the broader artistic traditions within she worked. Several of her stronger pieces were stuck in weird crannies, like the side of a room showing a movie about her life, or in odd places where viewing them is blocked by installations in the center of the room. On the day we went, a show showcasing local artists' responses to her work dominated 1/3 of the exhibition space, with several of her works unceremoniously sprinkled among the local works. One of her most important late works, portraying a pelvic bone, was positioned along a passageway, while a work by a local artist riffing on the work was positioned front and center.

This an amazing cultural program ran by Phil and is part of the Pueblo of Pojoaque…read more It was really awesome for my entire family (son,wife, my mom & dad) to get a private tour on the Tribal Bison Ranch of Pojoaque and view the Tribal Bison Herd in their natural surroundings. Phil even asked his staff to wait for us so we can see the Bison feeding for that day. Normally the tour would be more people but on a winter time, Phil fitted us in for 1:15 pm tour of the Bison Program. Phil showed us the Bison, the land where the Bison live , all the fences and water wells and gave an informative insight of their life. It was very interactive as we asked Phil where the water come from and how they get it to the Bison etc... It was suppose to be 1.20 hour long but Phil was so kind , I think we was there for close to 2 hours. I have a difficult time finding any local restaurants that served Bison burger and Phil extended his hospitality inviting my family for Bison Burger Lunch with his staff on the next day. Wow it was amazing lunch... I will post some pics later. Its the best and amazing cultural experience of our Santa Fe / Albuquerque vacation !!! I have done horse back riding and other outdoor activities. But to experience and interact with real members of Pueblo of Pojoaque was a cultural experience that I will treasure and tell all my friends to do if they are ever in the Santa Fe NM area. My Mom & Dad loved Phil and they don't even speak fluent english and knew he was a good man as I translated for them what Phil was explaining to us. I was so surprise that they are only on face book page listed under Pueblo of Pojoaque Bison / Ag Program. ( They don't have their own web site but part of the pueblo of Pojoaque web site). Finding them on facebook will be much easier if you search using the listing I provided above. I really want to let other Yelpers find Phil & his amazing staff and view the Bisons as I have. I only came to notice them on a flyer that I saw on the Poeh cultural center ( Museum for Pueblo of Pojoaque. ) I am proud to be the 1st yelper to review this amazing program. They are about 20 mins / 16 miles from Santa Fe plaza and about 5 mins away from the Hilton Buffalo Thunder Hotel ( Where I stayed). Please click helpful and mention Jayson from NY to Phil and he take care of you. The price depend on number of people and group size. I can tell you that it was much cheaper then any horseback riding that I have done before and was twice as entertaining. Phil was so kind he checked on me the next day to make sure I had a safe trip back to NY as he knew I was running against some snow in my drive back to Albuquerque airport. Wow he told me they got close to 10 inches of snow in that area.

He will trailer his horses to trailheads around the Santa Fe area so that you can ride in a variety of beautiful locations. His horses are very well trained and Joaquin will tailor the ride to meet your skill level from beginner to expert rider. We have done horseback riding at locations all over the country and this was by far our best experience ever. I couldn't recommend Joaquin, Marcia, and the entire Vision Quest experience more highly! One additional note...All Vision Quest rides are private so you won't be riding at the end of a long line of strangers on horses plodding along nose to tail like so many other places.

From the moment you arrive, it's impossible to not be transported to a place of peace, tranquility and joy. Multiple decks to see the stunning views. A pool, hot tub, and sauna. A yoga room!!! Great if you already have a practice and can use facilities on your own, but we also found it was very reasonable to just hire a teacher from Santa Fe to come up for a private lesson. Hiking right outside your door. Every bedroom (plus the cabin!) is set up perfectly to make you feel like a VERY ZEN queen/king. Watch the sunrise and the sunset over the mountains, while you swing on the front swings. Eat dinner under the stars or in the formal dining room. The choices are endless at Rass Mandal. The experience of this house unlocked possibilities, I'm not even kidding! It is a ways up the mountain road-- so not for people who really wan ot be in the center of twon. But we really had no trouble getting to town when we wanted to go out and explore. Mostly though you'll want to stay in, trust me! :) Also Richard is the nicest. Very Dissapointing Stay. My wife and I decided to get out of…read moretown for the weekend, and decided on Santa Fe to spurge for a 3-day weekend getaway. We had a few things we were looking for, includg a pool, hot tub, on-site full-service restaurant, room service, bar and spa (resort type amenities). While researching several hotels in and around Santa Fe, we found Hotel Santa Fe, and it seemed like a perfect fit, with a good location. We book a 3-night stay, and a few days later was contacted about "upgrading" our room. Since this was a special weekend, I thought, "why not', and paid for the room upgrade. Imagine our surprise while checking in that due to a fire 6 weeks ago+ (not mentioned on their web page) that the hot tub was not open, the pool was un-heated (no gas due to the fire), the restaurant, bar and lobby were closed due to the fire, and there was no room service. I think my wife and I were so stunned, and caught off guard, that we went ahead and checked in. If we would have known about the lack of amenities in advance, we would have cancelled and booked elsewhere. This news should have been mentioned on the web page or conveyed to us earlier upon booking. I find it disingenuous that they could certainly reach out for a room upgrade, but not mention anything about all the advertised amenities not being available. Upon arriving to our room, we unpacked and went out to find a spot for dinner since we had planned eating on-site. Upon returning to the room, we noticed a musty smell we had not noticed earlier. Knowing it had been raining we did not think much about it, but my wife noticed a large wet area on the carpet by the couch (and assumed it was due to housekeeping). Around 10:15 we were startled to see 2 large areas on the ceiling rapidly dripping water over the couch. Enough that we had to place trash cans under both areas because of the quantity of water. We were both so tired after traveling all day, that I told my wife I would handle in the morning. Reporting this to the front desk, I was asked what I wanted to do......how about a different room that's not leaking? While we did receive an apology, and a new room, I expected to be reached out to by management or possibly the butler (who we never met or heard from) because of the inconvenience of repacking and moving rooms. A failure in customer service in my mind. The complimentary shuttle service around the immediate area, continental breakfast, and most staff members were positive highlights of the trip. And our second room didn't leak. In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed Santa Fe and the location of Hotel Santa Fe, but I'd suggest not booking or staying here until you confirm that the repairs have been completed to ensure the reality of your stay matches the unfulfilled promises of their inaccurate web page. The resort level price paid per night was not in-line for the almost absent amenities that was not made known until arrival. We will not be back, but wish them well on their efforts to restore what could be a great hotel.....it's just not even close right now.
