Beautiful campus! SCC is so pretty! Surrounded by mostly green hills and a few houses. Cute stores across the street! Parking all around campus so chances are you get to park pretty close to class. All the staff are friendly and approachable. The grounds are kelts really clean. Make sure you take your class schedule with all the details to the bookstore so they make sure you get the correct books. The cafe has been upgraded so they make açaí bowls, coffees, sandwiches, pizza, and all that sort of snacks. Student Health has registered nurses, medical doctors, and licensed clinical psychologists to help the students. Like a real clinic. There's also a veterans center, disabled students program, a transfer center next to academic counseling, a program that caters to students wanting to become teachers, a big 2 story library, and lots of places to sit and do homework around campus. Even though I was accepted into Yale, NYU & Princeton, I decided to come here and save money. I wish I knew the truth about this TERRIBLE & UNETHICAL college when I made that decision. If you actually want to succeed in your academic journey. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Everybody I know that goes here stays stuck. Because of SCC, several individuals drop out of college or take 4-6 years to transfer to a University. For a school that claims to treat everyone as an adult-they have an unnecessary amount of rules. Rules set in place by the government to ensure academic success will not benefit you at this college being that staff will always find a loophole, claiming government rules don't align with district policy. For an institution with THOUSANDS of borderline mentally abusive rules, it's truly humorous & delusional that they believe to have immunity towards disregarding California law. They treat disabled students here as a burden and even encourage them to drop out of college. Everything about this place is horrid. Do NOT come here unless you are ready to fight for your life towards a piece of paper. As an over achieving student who has never struggled academically, here, my soul has died because of all the struggle I have endured from the hands of this Institution and I know several others who have. This school implemented detrimental affects towards my mental and physical wellbeing. SCC, you better change because a class action lawsuit is destined to happen if change isn't implemented. I'm happy to be leaving this school. And even though we can hope for things to change, I can't be delusional and say that change will be made. Because of this, PLEASE avoid this school at ALL costs. The college facilities are very nice, location is great, there is so much potential with this college! Ive gad great experience with the faculty and some of the administration as well, many of whom truly deeply care for students I believe the problem with this institution is with the higher level leadership. First off, let me start by saying this is a beautiful campus that is located in an equally beautiful area. This was my first time visiting the school, and I was so impressed by the appealing decor, buildings, and layout of the campus. The people in admissions are so amazing, diligent, and helpful especially Catalina, who helped me with my application and enrollment into my needed class in record time. They made me feel so welcome and informed with the decision I was making to enroll in classes at their school. Additionally, Pam Skiles from the counseling department was just as kind, helpful, and informative, as she thoroughly talked me through the process of clearing my prerequisites for the class I needed to take, something that I was initially super worried about doing. All in all, my experience at Santiago Canyon College has been nothing short of amazing, and if you are thinking of attending or applying to this school, do not think twice! This is the worst Community College. I have submitted an Ed-plan that specifically specified the courses need for Fall and Spring semesters. The financial aid department can literally view my current courses that support the Ed plan for this semester. The reps are still requesting for an Ed-plan. Hello, I'm registered in the courses z NOW with two-weeks before the courses end. There are no classes available to register in for Spring semester. To be honest, Fullerton Community College is more sufficient with their Financial Aid Dept. SCC relies on student workers that not acknowledgeable with the processing my opinion! read more

What can I say? For a community college, the campus is beautiful, and the classrooms are well equipped. Technology is up to date, the rooms are well kept (including the bathrooms) and the curriculum offered is decent. Haven't met a professor I didn't like....yet... but I'm sure that's to happen as I continue taking courses I already took many years ago to raise my GPA. As I look around, this seems to be the community college in the area that people go to after highschool because their families were RICH, but they couldn't make it into a decent university. (very similar to IVC) Book store could be bigger with more workers, but eh, it's never really that busy in the first place except when people buy books. Probably could use a few better places to eat as it expands. It's not exactly in a commercial area where you can walk to get other food (other than Taco Bell). Im sure they will develop that when they get the funding and capacity. Parking is also a joke... designers didn't plan this place properly.. read more

Don't bother with trying to access any disability services at this school for your student. Jennifer Coto the Dean Of support services is terrible to work with. Zero empathy and as friendly as a DMV clerk. My student has come home crying more often than not. Teachers are very nice, campus is beautiful. They do not deal with High functioning autism or anxiety disorders very well and in fact, interactions with the disability office made my student worse than before. Really disappointing. read more

I have been here a couple times for special events, and would rate the campus as average, or possibly slightly above. My main issue is that the restroom seems a little neglected. One of the stall doors was broken, and the soap dispensers were out of soap. The door could have just broken that day, in which case I could understand if it was not fixed immediately. As for the soap, they were empty when I first got there, and still empty 4 hrs later when I was leaving. If a campus is going to charge for parking on weekends like it is business as usual, they should also maintain the facilities (see restroom rant above) as if it were business as usual. The gymnasium and parking lot were both full, so they should have staffed better in anticipation. The rest of the campus was clean and well kept, so anything under 3 stars would be unfair. If I do return for another event, I will definitely bring hand sanitizer. read more

I hate the stigma that community colleges get. There are so many different people here that come for totally different reasons. A lot of people also don't realize that some of the best professors are in our community college system - they are here to teach because they want to, not because they are doing groundbreaking research and are obligated to teach on the side. Coming to Santiago Canyon College was one of the best things for myself for the following reasons: - Best English professor I've ever had in college: Rick Adams! - Gave me time to figure out what I wanted to do before transferring - Always ample parking (no thanks to you, OCC) - $20/unit [at the time] vs. $1000/unit at a private school Don't overlook getting your GE's done at a community college. Those silly Psych 101 and Intro to Art History classes the CSU's and UC's make you take? IT IS THE SAME CLASS HERE! But so much cheaper so you can pocket that dinero and have a grand old time without having to worry about student loans and being able to make rent! read more

As a veteran of signing up/dropping out of nearly all the local community colleges, this is the only one that has grabbed me long enough to stay, and ultimately transferring, which I should be doing as of fall 2011. I've gone to OCC, FJC, GWC, and finally here, SCC, and my experience here has been far greater than any of the other schools I've listed. Speaking as the penultimate underachiever, this school and (for the most part) instructors have made my experience pleasant and inviting. The parking situation here is sooooooooooooo much better than that of FJC or GWC, and getting better. As opposed to the other schools in the area, this school is receiving more funding, and continues to build where other schools have just stagnated. The campus is beautiful, very modern looking. If you ever get a chance, and go here, I suggest you take a history class with Reed, it may make you reconsider your major, I know I did. Oh yeah, the food in the Hawk Cafe is atrocious. My school! Love this school WAY more than FJC. Most of my teachers this semester have been awesome compared to any others that I've had ever! Plus the campus is so up to date compared to other schools in the area. Pros: -Awesome llibrary (you can rent DVD's like The Hangover) -Cool architecture -Lots of help for students around campus Cons: -Not enough parking!! -Lots of immature, spoiled, bratty, rich kids who don't take college seriously but are only here to shut their parents up (but that's pretty much any CC) -Not done being built yet so half my classes are still in portables. This school is pretty legit if you don't want to waste thousands of dollars on the same education you can get at a fraction of the price. Just be warned it's a lot like high school so you really have to not mind that part of it if you're going to go here. read more

I went to this school last summer and have gone back once since then. It's a beautiful campus with a decent amount of parking spots. I guess it depends what time you arrive and which parking lot you decide to park in, but the smaller the lot then the harder it'll be to find a spot especially in the morning. The bigger lots usually have plenty of spots open further away. Anyways, that's probably the least of your worries. One of the teachers I had was pretty good overall, but another teacher seemed to be bipolar at times (all good though, since I did well in his class). When I came back to sell an old textbook back to the bookstore, one of the ladies seemed to be a bit rude to customers and sadly, by the time I made it to the front of the line I got stuck with her. She rudely told me textbook buybacks was at the door next to the bookstore. I politely left and said thank you. The man that helped me sellback my book was quite friendly - thank goodness! read more

SCC is a good looking community college campus in Orange, Ca. It is easily reached by major roads in the OC. On occasion I have business to conduct there and that is the reason I have been on campus. Parking seems to be ample, at least at the times I have been there. I have not taken any classes, or been involved with any programs, though I have had some former students who attended. They never had anything bad to say, but did not rave about the experience either. read more

RE: the on-campus library. It's beautiful library that I've been able to call home for the past three years. I give it one star for being beautiful, clean, and having a mission statement of supporting education and students. And another star for the one nice staff member, Justin, and the nice students who work in the library. That's about as much praise I can think of. The hours suck (SCC doesn't care to spend more money on it). The majority of staff members suck (they generally sit around, do NOTHING to help students and enjoy exerting the limited power they have). The library doesn't try very hard to stock student textbooks for the courses the school offers (which they should because that's the only books that get checked out). The study rooms suck because of an annoying online reservation system that charges students money for being late. The no eating/drink policy is understandable but not typically enforced in other OC libraries. Furthermore, there's been a broken electrics system emitting a terrible sound on the second floor for the past two years now. (Ignored complaints have been raised). There are no water refilling stations. The scanners are half-working. The print system is antiquated. And the computers are only about half decent (the permissions are cumbersome and the staff isn't knowledgeable about which programs are on which computers). read more

So far so good! Its my first semester here, and Im enjoying myself. Its got new buildings with fresh new seats :o which I love. Also they have new lecture halls with new quality projection technology. Parking seems to suck sometimes, but motorcycle parking is where its at. I can always swoop in on a spot. Registration seemed fine. I like the size of the campus. Saddleback is much bigger, and IVC was a bit smaller than saddleback Both schools offer great services and programs, I went to both. Im enjoying SCC because of the new campus and friendly atmsophere. A lot of my friends made the switch from IVC to here and said they have no regrets either. read more

With this incident I don't even want to give 1 star because I believe they deserve 0. I have been going to this school for a little while now and something blew my mind the other day. They canceled my summer class Monday Tuesday wed and Thursday 9-12:30pm. which is a lot of your summer you have to prepare around. The canceled the whole summer class literally at 8:35am and the class was at 9am because the class wasn't completely full? I understand they need to save money but really just because it wasn't completely full you mess over everybody else that has planned their whole summer around it? I work with a school district and I specifically didn't sign up for my summer school JOB for this class and now I have no job and no school. Also when you cancel it that last minute the people who have been signed up for that class are now messed over and now don't have a chance to switch classes and sign up for a different one?! I also called the head of department seeing if they could help me and they said that this happens rarely because they try to get as much of people in the class and the person on the phone seemed like they did not care at all?! I just think that is not right. This really affected me and bothered me so much to the point I might be transferring back to saddleback after this summer, but its hard due to location so I will be searching up some different options. read more

I enjoy going to this college the teachers are great and the campus is and feels safe . They have a great library and great professors who are always willing to help you and give you advice and they also have a lot of tutoring sessions. One complaint is that some counselors give you incorrect information about certain classes and advice. If you have your mind on a particular college that you want to transfer to then work hard and aim for those goals don't let a counselor tell you to settle for a school that you don't want to attend just because they think certain schools are out of your league. I had a case where I was told incorrect info regarding a class I'm taking and that it doesn't correspond to another class but I did my research and asked my professor turns out the counselor was wrong also she told me to settle for Fullerton that's not an option so I think she should gave me better advice to stay a little longer get my gpa high or look at other options other colleges that meet my interests and goals. My professor has given me better advice on what path to take and what classes to take than this counselor again not saying all of them are like this just make sure that your counselor knows what they're talking about before you take their advice. Overall great community college. Also if you read a particular review someone says it's a far walk from the parking lot to campus I'm sure this person is lazy or doesn't get there early to get nearby parking. I'm sure once this person transfers to a four year university they will be shocked on how much longer they will have to walk ohhh nooooo walking far what cruel people make you walk??? Everyone this campus is good with parking get there early and you will be fine also there's a parking space down the hill it's a little further down and no one ever parks there because they don't want to walk but you don't have to worry about going in circles for half an hour. Also once a month goes by people start dropping out of their classes which means more parking spaces closer to campus in case you don't want to walk. Takes about 10 minutes to get to your class from there depending how fast you walk of course :) instead of driving in circles and almost being late to class get there a bit early park further away and you won't have to worry about being in the middle of a chaotic parking lot. read more

Not even because I go to school here, quite honestly, any school would get a low rating from me because I'm not fond of going to school, BUT! I like that they allow me to take night classes, and have options geared to part time students like me. They have also partnered with my work to offer classes at my work location, so I can just attend class right after work. Their counselors are helpful and the instructors have industry experience that the students can really relate to. They have added more parking space so no more walking a mile on a cold night to get to and from class, AND they have added these machines where you can pay for parking in case you left your parking pass at home. Also, it is very convenient to get registered for classes through their online system! read more

This semester, I am taking a public speaking class. I needed some guidance on my speech, and I was trying to find some help. I saw a flyer on the wall (of a building on campus). It says that tutoring center offers assistance in subjects such as chemistry, math, English, philosophy etc (at the bottome of the list, it even says more!) So I went to the tutoring center, guess what the person that's in charge said to me: they have NEVER had anyone that's responsible for public speaking. Are you kidding me? So you people offer help with subject matters such as philosophy, and yet you don't have anyone for public speaking? Whatever! This is another classic example of a waste of tax dollars. read more

I think the area around the fields here may still be under construction, functional but a little worn out...the parking is separated from the fields by a very tall stairwell, they do have a very long zig zag ramp available but it is not very user friendly. The rest of the area is nice, security seems to be very vigilant and even immediately reprimanded a disabled senior citizen that pulled up in front of a no stopping zone while we were there...yikes! read more
