We made the switch to HFCS when our oldest son was in 2nd grade and it was the best decision we could have ever made. Our family was warmly welcomed and instantly became part of the community. The teachers and administration are kind, caring and incredibly dedicated to the students. Two of our boys have gone on to Catholic High School and an unsolicited comment from the admissions director was how grateful she is for HFCS kids because they are so well prepared for their high school journey and very courteous young men. This was further confirmed for me when participating in a science camps which included both public and private schools; the HFCS students stood apart in their interactions with each other and the other schools. The administration knows the kids and parents by name, they are visible and accessible when needed. HFCS has been a perfect fit for us and our experience has been wonderful. I would recommend HFCS to all of my friends and anyone who asks.

Mrs Duralde and Mr. Self are extraordinary teachers that go above and beyond to make sure their students succeed. This review is for the Handy Elementary School location as an Election Day polling place, not for…read morethe quality or skill of the school as part of the OUSD-Orange Unified School District. I have no really in depth familiarity with that. I'm a registered voter in Orange and receive the vote by mail ballot. As that, we mailing voters have the option to drop off the official ballot at a polling site. I'd driven by the Handy School already that election day and knew it was an official polling site for Orange. Why? Because was clearly and well-marked from the street a place to VOTE that day! Now, you have to know I am temporarily disabled and get highly fatigued if not exhausted from even small errands or tasks. So, by the end of the day, I was kvetching about going out to cast my vote. Then my own values about greatly valuing our right and ability to vote kicked in around 7, and I filled my ballot out and signed, hauled my tired bod into my car, drove over and into the parking lot. Well, thank God/dess for all the helpful little lovingly handwritten signs pointing to and guiding me to the voting room! I'm emphasizing those lil signs so much because while which room was clear from the parking lot. But seeing this is an elementary school, there were chain link fences and locked doors for all those school kids and staff's safety. How on earth was I to get IN to cast (drop off) my vote? And it was now about 15 minutes before the polls closed. I didn't want to get stuck circling those chain links and miss out on voting! Then I noticed it! One more little, and I do mean truly small, handwritten "Vote" sign, this one with a hand drawn arrow guiding me to the hard to see break in the chain link fence which led to the entrance to the polling place room. I walked in with my envelope. The poll workers were all so cheerful, friendly, and helpful. They pointed me to The Box. Popped my ballot in. And then I could wear my "I voted" sticker with veracity!

Game volunteers/parents assisting with the snack bar and ticket takers were extremely welcoming and friendly. The bleachers were very comfortable and provided a great view of the court. The only negative issue we experienced was the temperature change: one minute it was chilly, the next, extremely warm. Spectators could feel these changes instantly as the heat and cold came from these huge black, vinyl/rubber, tubular-like thingys. Other than this, our visit was a positive experience, and our school's win made things that much better.

Do not bring your kids to this school, they do not prepare students for success…read more From the time my children entered 9th grade, I asked the counselors how to prepare them for the IB program because I wanted them to have the best chance at getting into a good college. Since I didn't study in the U.S., I depended on the school's guidance. Instead, I was misled. When I first asked, the counselor told me to wait a year. By the next year, I was told it was already too late. Later, they told me that the ACT wasn't required, which is technically true for some colleges but if you want your child to have a real chance at highly selective or Ivy League-type schools, strong ACT/SAT scores are still very important. That guidance was never made clear. Meanwhile, both of my kids have 4.0 GPAs here, but when it came time for standardized testing, they were completely unprepared. My senior son tested very low in math, English, and reading. After paying for outside tutoring, his English scores improved, but in math he is still struggling because he doesn't even have a solid foundation in algebra. That should have been addressed long before his senior year, yet the school failed to provide the preparation he needed. Now I am spending a lot of money on private tutoring and outside academies just to make sure my children have a chance. For my daughter, I am already relying on an external program because I know I cannot depend on this school or its counselors to prepare her. Bottom line: if you want your children to be prepared for college admissions, especially competitive ones, do not rely on this school. The lack of proper guidance and academic foundation has been extremely frustrating and costly.
