While there are dedicated teachers, our recent experience exposed deep problems in how serious student concerns are handled. Following a bullying incident, the school's response was slow, procedural, and fragmented. A safety plan was eventually produced, but it relied heavily on the student to manage unsafe situations and lacked clear staff accountability. Even more troubling, the plan was finalized without including all custodial parents in the process. Instead of focusing on corrective action and supervision, the school increasingly framed homeschooling or withdrawal as the "only viable path," which felt more like avoidance than resolution. Parents entrust schools with their children's well‑being. When concerns are raised, families should be met with transparency, collaboration, and urgency. Sadly, that was not our experience.

- i attended trabuco mesa elementary school from kindergarten all the way to 6th grade, excluding…read more5th grade. i absolutely loved this school!! the teachers, students, volunteers, lunch activities, and all the many other things this school had to offer was absolutely incredible. this school has given me unforgettable memories and experiences. just one thing,,, i had an incident that had happened my 6th grade year that's had to do with bullying and let's just say when i was offered help, the principal was no help AT ALL. if anything, she made matters worse. when i has reached for help, no help was given by staff nor the principal, all i got was a very, very loud yelling from her and questioned by the police after demanding i have a parent present before further questioning. i never knew a principle could talk to an 11 year old student in such a offensive and demeaning way. not to mention, she told my parents lies about my behavior at school and that i was a bad student even though i never was. - overall this school is truly great. one of the best and if you're thinking about enrolling your child into trabuco mesa elementary school, your child is going to have the time of their lives. you will not regret it. :)

Things started off on a rocky start with three math teachers within the first few months of school, but things got better socially as our child was part of Students Run Los Angeles (SRLA). LFMS is one of two OC schools still participating in this program. Students sign up and train all year for the LA Marathon in March. The students bond, the parents bond, there is a fun outing in LA, a ton of hype around the marathon, special announcements made at school for the kids, and so on. I can't rave about this program enough! The instruction at LFMS is pretty standard as long as you get a competent teacher and most teachers are. The school has struggled with their math teacher and the instruction taught is often wrong. Sometimes the answer keys are wrong. We've had multiple meetings with the school regarding this issue and the assistant principal is well aware the teacher is struggling and encouraged us to put our complaint in straight with the teacher. We spoke with the teacher and understand she has a difficult set of kids she's dealing with in her class. We were able to get the honors class workbook for our child because the math taught is easy for her. Lately we've been hearing there is a lot of bullying happening in this teachers class because the students don't take her seriously. This stems a larger issue I think the school is struggling with - bullying in general. I hear stories of kids throwing food at other students, taking cell phones and throwing them in bushes, pulling hair, telling people they smell, and the worst of all are there are rumors going around students are having sex with each other (as young as 6th grade). This school seems to be a rumor mill, in our household we stress the importance of not getting involved in the drama, staying active, etc. to avoid this unnecessary stress. The reason I'm giving it a 4-star review is because the school has been an overall good experience for our child.

My son attended Oso Grande Elementary and unfortunately had a very negative experience. He was…read morerepeatedly bullied by other students, including comments mocking his Asian background and racial slurs. We reported these incidents to school staff and supervisors multiple times. While some staff members were kind, we felt our concerns were not taken seriously and the response was inadequate. The bullying continued, and we never felt our child was properly protected or supported. As parents, it was heartbreaking to watch our child struggle while feeling that the adults responsible for student safety were not doing enough. Ultimately, we decided to move him to another school. I hope the school improves its response to bullying and discrimination so that other families do not have the same experience.

If there is any complaint, it would be that the kid drop off and pick up can be a bit of a process but that should have no impact on the great education that the kids receive while attending here.
