Enticing baked goods, Cool desserts and they're known for their marzipan. Which is a type of sweet made with sugar, honey, ground almonds (be careful if you have allergies) and flour. Marzipan can also be used as a thin sheet over cakes. It can be glazed and topped with chocolate or fruit. So I had to try it due to it being incredible eye candy. Santo Tome has been around since the 1850s and this one was adjacent to a main square so it's quite popular for locals and turistas. Stopped in after touring the military museum just to sample the marzipan. We grabbed a couple of the palmera pastries which were rich but good. The marzipan was above average and overpriced. Of you need to stop by for a sweet, would just grab the Palmeras. read more

Cute store for buying Marzipan in central square of Taledo. As you roam the streets of Taledo, you'll notice several store fronts advertising Marzipan. My friends and I checked out couple of them (didn't get a good feeling in other stores). Finally, entered Santo Tomé. Inside made us feel happy. All of us bought small sample bag (4 pieces). Line wasn't long at that time. After coming out, I opened the bag and tried one piece. WOW! I went back inside to buy another small bag for back home. This time I encountered a very long line. The first bag is already finished. If you love Marzipan, then this is a good store to buy it from. The only suggestion for the store is to offer samples. The selections were very, very good. However, there was no order to the queue- the other patrons were pushing and talking over us to the staff. No one seemed to want to get any order and we felt pushed and shoved! Ugh. All for the joy of buying some marzipan! read more

To be fair, I am no marzipan expert so this review is purely personal opinion. We found this place through online reviews and it seems like a popular destination when you visit Toledo. There we were, in the center of the downtown Toledo and this bakery was packed with tourists! Their mazipans were nicely decorated with beautiful colors and fruit shapes. They were pricey though so I only bought a few to sample since I didn't even know what to expect. They turned out very delicious and sweet! I love the fruit ones as there were fillings inside. The pine nut ones were also great because it gives you a hint of nutty texture and fragrance. If it were cheaper, I would have bought more for sure. read more

Toledo seems to have a bunch of marzipan shops around - some sweet stuff made of sugar and almonds. Even nuns make it! I stopped in this hop on the square to have a look and also bought a couple small bags of marzipan to try; well I didn't need to try it since I already know what marzipan tastes like. I bought some marzapan treats here since that's one of the specialties of Toledo. There were a few marzapan shops in the Plaza de Zocodover area and chose this one since they had a cool marzapan castle in the window. I have an obsession with French macarons and ordered one of each flavor as soon as I saw them. The macarons were crunchy and stale, plus I wasn't a huge fan of the marzapan. I like marzipan, but this was quite different from what we get in the States. I ordered (on purpose) flavors we do not have- pine nut marzipan (very good!), Marzipan with what the sales woman called "marmelade- filled with what tasted like apple jelly (my husband liked this- not me) and lemon- very good. The shortbread, which I tried only one of, was disappointing. All in all I think you should try this place, if you like marzipan. I think there are many unusual sweets to try here. I am not generally a marzipan person. I think it's squishy and sugary and sort of belongs in the weird "Peeps" category. But Santo Tome's delicious concoctions definitely justified Toledo's reputation as the Marzipan Capital. We ordered a bunch of the fruit flavored ones - lemon, strawberry, etc. - and they were all delicious! Sweet, but not too sweet, and adorable looking as well. We also enjoyed a chocolate orange pastry from Santo Tome that was lovely to slowly savor while sitting and people watching in Plaza Zocodover.
