The museum promotes local artists from Provence and has a small but very varied collection of art from local artist - photographs, paintings and sculptures in different materials. Walking through the collection hardly takes more than 15 minutes, if you take a bit of time to study a few of the artworks that you like. None of the text in the exhibits are in English, only French, which does somewhat limits the output for a non-French speaker, but it is none the less interesting to have a look around. The museum is housed in what was previously a sanitary station built in 1948 at a time when it was almost obsolete before it was finished. A 45-min film (it's just as much an art installation as a film) tells a bit about the history of the place. It's really interesting and worth the extra charge to see. But it is not the least bit critical, so bring your own skepticism and notice both the religious references and processing of people as if they were cattle - a bit like going through airport security in France today except there is no DDT involved.

I would actually give Marseilles a 4.5 star if able. This was my second time here and it is so…read morebeautiful. The first time I was here was in 2005. So, it has changed a bit. I loved the local people selling their quality goods in tents in 2005. Now there were locals selling fresh fish, which was nice, but not something I was interested in purchasing. We ate mussels, pomme frites and drank champagne. It was a perfect afternoon!!! I was disappointed that it was pretty difficult to find fresh baked bread and pastries in Marseilles. There were a couple "chain" looking places. I had been looking so forward to strolling the streets eating french bread and munching on pastries as I did in 2005. :( It was a bummer. But I was full from my delicious lunch there. We realized there was a whole shopping section we missed. Some fun people from the ship we met and ran into made us aware. Time was limited at this point but we managed to check out their mall. It was tres chic!!! Marseilles is simply beautiful with all their boats and the blue, blue water.

The architecture is very pretty, waterfront area is nice lots of places for drinks & food, nice waterfront views while getting drinks. While walking around u come across a fun area by the streets with all the graffiti & cute shops to checkout, this was an enjoyable area to see.

Once u reach the top, very nice what more can be said really? the views are amazing, u can see the entire city from up there. As for the Basilica itself, it's very cool with plenty of mosaics designs & column's, inside the candles provide some light to the dimly lit interior. This was a great stop & for sure worth checking out, even if just for the outside views.

Too bad for my wife and I because the day we planned to do this, I booked last second reservations at Une Table au Sud, a Michelin Star restaurant; see my other Yelp review. Anyway, I hope my pictures do this place justice. Enjoy; better yet, go visit. Another plus was that we got our Marseille soap here which saved us a trip. 6 Euros for a pack of 4. We bought a few packs... BTW, this is the same price as if we went to the parent store. Ambiance - See my pictures. Pay toilets, I think 1 Euro. They accept credit cards. Restaurant available. Gift shop. Service - Self service. Price - Free, unless you need to use the toilets. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success and history.
