That's where the fun ends. Do not come here, and don't shy away from reporting this business if something weird transpires. They're a sketchy place. Case in point, a quick google will surface an ongoing lawsuit regarding all sorts of workplace malpractice. What happened: I ordered a single drink (an old fashioned) with my buddy, and lost consciousness within 15 minutes. Surprise surprise, the same thing happened to him. He and I split up. I literally have no recollection of what happened for the next 5 hours, but I came-to at my front door, all possessions except* my credit card in-hand, and quickly discovered a $12,000+ dollar CC tab. Tried reaching the club, no one answered the phone. Went there in person, card was nowhere to be found. Eye roll. No idea what I purchased, when, or for what exactly. Zero recollection of anything. Talked to my credit card company, and the business still is dodging requests for receipts. Moreover I had lingering health effects from this episode for several MONTHS afterwards, including pain in my extremities and brain fog. I had to go the ER twice and got an MRI. I'm hardly a big partier, but I've had bad nights here and there in my youth. This was nothing like those and way beyond a hangover; it felt like my body had been poisoned, and I'm certain I was drugged. I entered the venue well within my faculties, on a full stomach and mildly* buzzed yet I (and my friend) blacked out for 6 hours after a single drink. I've been 21 since 2016. Which puts me at being 23 now. I went to this unfortunate establishment with a group of friends to celebrate a friend's birthday. The doorman told me that my ID wouldn't scan and that it was clearly a fake. It was not. Okay, no problem. I pull out two additional forms of government issued IDs. They tell me that because they can't scan them, they can't accept them. I pull up a photo of my passport on my phone. They tell me that they can't accept that either. At this point I'm holding my real ID- which I have NEVER in my life before been told doesn't scan- in addition to three other IDs. I ask them to get their manager. The manager, a woman, comes out- doesn't say a word to me. Looks me up and down, turns to the doorman, and goes "absolutely not". Then turns and goes back into the building. So, moral of this review: if you want to go be publicly humiliated for absolutely no reason in the hopes of getting to throw one dollar bills at third rate strippers in a half-empty club run by useless morons, this is the place for you! read more

I've been coming to sapphire for a long time. I get comps on entry and drinks. We came to 60 on a Sunday. All of these bouncers outside made us wait and then told us our comps don't work on Sunday. So we went in anyway thinking it would be great. Nobody inside at all. Then we were told bottle service only. Ridiculous. So we left. Came here based off of recommendation from a New York City cab driver. I was in New York city for about 1 week and decided to try a strip club while on vacation... let me tell you I was definitely not disappointed! I give this place 5 stars because the doormen were pretty friendly when we got there, the talent of this place was exceptional, and let me tell you these ladies can definitely move and definitely give top quality lap dances! Jesus have mercy on my love for blonde strippers. Perhaps you're like my friend who I came with who just want a lady to talk to(lol!) or maybe you're in a mood like I was to get a little bit drunk and have a good time out on the town. Either way sapphire will deliver on whatever your desires are. I do not advise anyone to take cash out from the ATM inside the club as it is a very hefty fee to take out money. We decided.to surprise our friend on her bachelorette weekend and when we showed up to Sapphire, all of us got turned away by the manager and the guy at the door. According to him, it is against their policy to allow multiple women into their lounge for "business" reasons. He said that guys tend to focus on other women instead of the girls working at their lounge. We were so shocked because not only were they being sexist but this made absolutely no sense . Given this was my first time at a strip club, I'm not sure my opinion counts for much, but here goes. The Pros: 1. It's on the Upper East Side. An easy walk from the 59th Street station if you don't live on the UES and very easy walk if you do happen to live in the 60s. 2. The bouncers are great. Very nice guys who range in age from late 20s to a manager bouncer in his early 50s. The hostess for the restaurant was extremely friendly and so were some of the girls who walk around the main area (doing what, I'm not sure, as they don't actually run drinks, but they do work there). 3. The music is pretty good, even the regular DJ (not the special people like LilJohn who come at 1AM which is far too late for a woman of 42 after a flight to Newark from LA). I'm not into club music generally but this was pretty okay and not too loud. The Cons: 1. Rude bartenders devoid of affect. You can't tell if they're comatose or rude, so I'm going with rude. Mine never smiled, but at least she got me some cream for the putrid iced coffee, and the Jameson pour was generous. 2. Obscene drink prices: 18 for a Jameson in iced coffee. I could have a glass of Cab at St Regis for 19 (the St Regis cab, to be precise, which is the cheapest wine by the glass at the august and legendary hotel). 3. Only bottle service people can sit in comfy chairs. Everyone else has to stand. If I'm paying 21 or 22 (after tip) for a drink, I want a place to sit. 4. There is an attendant in the bathroom. Balthazar has dispensed with this offensive and ridiculous practice, but a strip club thinks it's appropriate to have an old black woman managing the hair spray, mints, combs and other toiletries in a cramped bathroom where you almost feel too guilty not to tip. (The 18 dollar iced coffee with whiskey without a decent seat mitigates that guilt considerably). At least at Balthazar, there was history. Maybe bad history, but history nonetheless. Sapphire has no such excuse. The best part of Sapphire is really more anthropological than recreational. A lot of girls who are working (as well as off-duty girls, from what I gathered with my world-class eavesdropping skills) take smoke breaks outside the exit. It's poignant to see the camaraderie among girls who, let's face it, did not dream of stripping when they were little. But it was Mother's Day and emotions ran high. Now that you can't vape indoors, vapers have to go to the outdoor smoking area to puff their EVODs or e-cigs. I saw one truly distraught young woman crying as she recounted a sad domestic tale which I could not quite follow, but heard enough to know was quite depressing. Other strippers were hugging her, assuring her it would be okay. I must say that for the Upper East Side--just off Sutton Place for God's sake--the decor was tacky. I've heard for years that UES men take clients to Sapphire or go alone to see a little skin, presumably because their wives are too mad at them for slights real or imagined actually to get naked in their presence. But I saw not one individual in two hours who could afford to buy even a one-bedroom on the UES. Yes you might luck out in Yorkville for 550K but then there would be maintenance at least 30% of your mortgage. I didn't see one person capable of this; it wasn't even a 4%-er, much less a 1-2%-er crowd. And I can't imagine a Biglaw person or a finance guy over 30 setting foot in this establishment unless he had a very immature client new to the city, which said client would no doubt refer to as "the Big Apple." As for the girls? From the neck down, they're runway models with no curves. One girl had a spectacular body but with her protruding ribs (which is normal for a woman 5/9 and 114), she's the kind of girl who looks far better with her clothes on. When I said this to the man next to me, whom I cross-examined for 15 or so minutes--prompting him to ask me if I was into girls, which I'm not--he laughed. And when I told him about my blog, Victorian Chick, he thought it sounded "intellectual" (though it's hardly academic). The best looking girl had gorgeous hair, whether it was real or fake, but absolutely no chest. She did move well but did nothing interesting on the pole. I bet this size 2 brunette studied ballet as a youngster. There was also a not especially good looking woman who was far more athletic and interesting on the pole (her inversions were good). I'm glad I went because I've been meaning to check this place out for three or so years. But at these prices, I could drink at St. Regis or Bemelman's at the Carlyle and listen to accomplished musicians in one of New York's oldest and most famous hotels. I would also meet interesting characters. P.S. I am old (42). I'm sure if you're young and you enjoy nightclubs and naked women you will enjoy Sapphire. Imagine my buzzkill when I paid the $30 cover and large flatscreens were blaring UFC fights. No music, no dancing. Just ladies in glittery gowns talking amongst themselves. A few men sitting around drinking. No atmosphere, no party, no strippers stripping. I asked for my money back, which didn't happen. Came here one night with a platonic male friend to do something a little different. Even though it was a Tuesday night this place was SO much fun! The waitresses were all dolls and the dancers were a TON of fun! The music was great. I even had a vegan burger at their restaurant when I got the champagne munchies and it blew me away. I ordered it without the bun so it would be gluten-free and the presentation was phenomenal! I personally thanked the chef (also a great guy!) As upscale as this clubs website looks, I found it a bit underwhelming. One time I was seated in a chair that was covered with duck tape. If I'm going to be paying 10$ for a bottle of water, 20$ entry fee, 3$ coat check, 2 drink minimum to sit at a table, then I think it should come with a free sign that reads "your wallet is about to get gang raped." I asked for a shot Johnny Walker black & the waitress told me it was 40$, really? I chose to save it, because for 20 more I could buy a full bottle at a liquor store.
