The search for a good therapist who you jive with, takes insurance, and is also accepting new clients can be really demoralizing. It definitely was for me. I felt so fortunate when I found Huma Sikandar Fatakia, and I can't say enough good things about her. She is so understanding and has an almost uncanny ability to remember details I haven't spoken about in a while, and connect the dots to help me recognize patterns and opportunities in my life. She has also helped me incorporate some mindful practices in my life when things feel heavy... which I never thought I'd be able to do. When Huma went on maternity leave, there was a seamless transition to Alyssa McCall for that duration. I again felt really fortunate that they didn't leave me hanging and matched me with another provider. Alyssa was also great! It is hard switching from one provider to another, but Alyssa offered new perspective and some different tools that I've held onto since going back to Huma. Finally, Michell Stanley was able to accommodate my partner and me very quickly for sessions, and that has been a huge help. She is very good at what she does and very understanding. As the owner of the business, she's also easy to work with for any administrative needs. I feel so extremely lucky to have found Moksha Living when I did, before the pandemic, and to be able to continue my work with them in a safe way. During COVID-19, all sessions are remote via a secure platform.

Michell demonstrated the perfect amount of care and accountability, and balanced intellectual and emotional introspection. I truly feel like a better person after my work with her. I've tried a not-insignificant number of therapists in my life and Michell is above and beyond the best therapist I have ever worked with.

And,…read moreafter working with Lauren versus working through finding my own career path on my own (for free!), I am writing this review to let others know that your money is better spent on things to help you over the hump! I paid for four months in advance for her coaching at a rate of 595$ per month. Because I was extremely depressed in my job at the time, I missed out on going to two months of coaching sessions. This is to be up front and direct that my review is based on going to only two months of sessions with Lauren. I did not "schedule and cancel" any appointments - but rather did not schedule the sessions at all. I understood that she would still take the payment, but for her to accept $1,200 in fees when her client was depressed and underwater felt a bit unethical in my point of view - and I just want to share it for others who might be interested in seeking real help for their struggles - that these are the terms and conditions you sign up for. The actual coaching sessions were quasi-helpful, but I really did not receive support or any actionable steps to analyzing my own situation. The parting advice I got from Lauren was "Think and sit for a while with what you are good at and what you like to do, and go from there." She also went through my values - having me highlight things from both of these columns. I've gained so much more from people like Tim Ferriss or Tony Robbins or Gretchen Rubin -- and those services are things that are offered for free. Tim Ferriss, in particular, offers an 80-20 analysis that is most useful for anyone who is struggling. I am now in a dream job overseas and am working hard to do right by it, but the experience with Lauren stuck with me. I really wanted to share this with others so they can make a more informed decision when they are struggling in choosing the right career for them.

After talking with Lauren, I am a believer in coaching. I always thought it was for people who…read moredidn't know what they wanted to do with their lives and it turns out I think Lauren could help everyone in some way. Lauren has an easy manner that does not make me feel like I'm asking for help, I think that is a very valuable part of her process. I was a bit of a skeptic, which is funny because I have spent money and time on Palm Readers, Astrologers, High End Astrologers (you heard me -- $$$), Tea Leave Readers, Tarot Card Readers, Past LIfe Readers, and a damn straight Crystal Ball Psychic. While I love a little pageantry, it turns out none of these experiences offered any insight in to my fate. So buckle your seat belt Dorothy, it turns out I had it in me all along. Lauren was my Wizard of Oz, Oprah-light-bulb-moment-giver by talking me through a sticky situation that I could have let overtake me. She left me with a new perspective, and a plan. I feel confident about how to proceed and I have clear steps on how to move forward. I'm ready to bury the runes and ouija board and stop reading the star charts, I think coaching is illuminating and is what I needed to chart my own star.

In the past 4 years, I had gained 40+ lbs due to some special medicine I was taking (and probably some overeating of hamburgers too haha). I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of it. Juice cleanses, special diets, pills, multiple private trainers, you name it and I had done it. Unfortunately, nothing stuck. Knowing my wedding was just around the corner, I had to do something to get the weight off for good. I wanted to feel confident on my wedding day! I found Lindsay through a quick yelp search and was intrigued. Let's get this straight. This is not a special fad diet or some strict eating plan, its a way of life! Lindsay gives you the tools, skills, and mindset to make a long lasting change in your lifestyle. During the course of the 6 weeks, I lost 8+ lbs and now (more than 3 months later) I'm still continuing to lose weight by following what she taught me. I plan to be at my goal weight in the next 3 months (in time for my wedding!) And most importantly, I feel fantastic!!!!! I feel like a whole new person. Yes, it's a monetary investment but it was worth every penny :) do it!!!

What I appreciated the most was her accessibility. She would review menus of restaurants I was eating at or provide me with customized recommendations. When I was frustrated with results or what the scale said, she was non-judgmental and offered helpful advice for how to overcome cravings or emotional reactions. In fact, I was surprised (in a good way) by how much of the program was centered around mindfulness and balance. Even though the program only includes 4 sessions, I felt like I was in constant communication with Lindsay and she genuinely cared about my progress. She frequently sent email updates and checked in, and when I had questions, she was never more than a text away. I am excited to see continued progress. I would recommend Lindsay to anyone!

Coaching did help me figure out some of those things, but more than that I learned to accept responsibility for every aspect of my life. That wasn't easy at times and it was really great being in a supportive group watching others learn those lessons too. But what was really special about the experience was that Cat didn't just offer support and accountability for what I thought I should be working on. She challenged me to turn my attention towards things I was actively avoiding, the things I was afraid to face. Now, I finally understand that I create all of it--the good and the bad. I'm more confident about what I truly want and I know I have all the power, time and energy that I need to keep changing my life.

I saw this practice's name as one of the few providers in DC of in-person group therapy which I was looking for, so I scheduled a consultation call. I was called by the leader of the group, Shelby Allen, LSGW who asked me some questions about what I am looking for, said that it sounds like I would be a great fit for the group and could benefit greatly from it, and then told me I could not join because the group was full. I was disappointed as this seemed like something to bring up before wasting my time but I was somewhat pleased that Shelby suggested I do personal therapy with her until finding a group, even though I was specifically looking for a group, that seemed like a reasonable compromise for what seemed like misleading and unprofessional communication regarding the group. During my individual intake session at the office, I was asked all the basic questions about what I was looking for and I said that if I was going to do individual instead of group, I would prefer something other than cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). She said that she and the practice typically do CBT and I responded that I had not done one-on-one talk therapy in a while and would be willing to try it out and go from there. She then encouraged me to talk about my reasons for seeking therapy, i.e. my trauma, my insecurities, and even - in her words, my "experiences with grief and losing loved ones" which she explicitly asked me to share. Towards the end of the session, she told me that she would not be able to offer me therapy because it was "not a good fit." Feeling gut-punched, I asked why it wasn't a good fit and she said because of two things I mentioned AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SESSION: That I had a preference for methods besides CBT and that I had been diagnosed with OCD. If that was the case, then it is grossly unprofessional at best and a breach of ethics at worse that she encouraged me to share some of my most sensitive and personal, private information under false pretenses. I never would have shared most of what I did with her if I had known what she knew; that we would not be working together in therapy. My experience was grossly unprofessional at best, and an ethics breach, predatory negligence at worst.

With The Sterling Group it's been the complete opposite. My sessions feel collaborative -- some days it's about untangling the big picture, other days it's about what's right in front of me, and both feel equally valuable. What I appreciate most is that I never feel rushed or judged. There's a genuine sense of care, and I've been able to open up in ways I didn't expect. Even outside of sessions, I notice myself handling stress and relationships differently, which is a huge change for me. The office itself has such a calm vibe, but it's really the people who make it feel safe.
