The activities director, Jessica has been outstanding and has excellent activities planned AND the best thing is that she stops in mom's room and lets her know that it's time for the activity. Mom will often join with the personal invite. Mom's room is very clean and actually the entire center is kept very clean. My family is so happy that mom has such a caring place to be.

During these times of Covid employers should take extra caution towards their facility. But this facility does not. There's been times where I was sick and had gotten a Covid test and my employer was upset because I couldn't make it into work. That's happened twice. Recently I wasn't feeling the greatest and was puking and just had a sore throat and I mentioned that I couldn't make it into work that day. Marcie, the owner, then technically threatened me saying that if I didn't show up to work, I would be terminated. She knew I didn't feel well. I told her that I would provide a doctors note for her, but in her eyes that didn't matter and continued to tell me that I would be terminated. She tries to say it's because she can't depend on me because of my absences. But half of my absences were from doctors notes during the times I have gotten the Covid test. The other times, I usually found a replacement or traded shifts. There we're probably 5 times in the 5-6 months I've been there where they actually had to beg someone to work for me or they'd work themselves. Considering that they have this facility with older residents who can get sick easily, they should take extreme cautions of when their employees are sick. They shouldn't be forced to come into work. I've heard from my other coworkers as well that they were told to come in when they were sick. I've worked with a girl who was sick all week and technically that would be putting the residents in danger but they don't care. The fact that i was told that even if I missed work with a doctors note excusing me from that day, that I would be terminated, made me realize just how toxic of a place this is. So I quit. But also, some caregivers working there definitely shouldn't have a job. I see residents not getting what they asked for and I also see residents who get ignored. I go to a nurse who isn't busy and just sitting down and tell them that this resident wants to be taken back to their room and I get told that they'll have to wait, which is like another 15-20 minutes. I've seen another resident scream "help me, help me", and that same exact nurse told him that he'd have to wait as she continued talking to another employee...This place is not it! Oh, and let's not forget that the owners talk crap about their own employees and have said some rude things about the residents.

The overall approach to care feels really rigid, and more like a financial obligation than something truly focused on the patient. This place is a not for profit and they still give their residents therapy even when they can't pay for it. They also have a large gym for the residents to use for free and a team of CNA's that help you get on the equipment! Recently they created a game room with a pool table, shuffle board, etc for the residents to use when they aren't working out. They have a woodshop for the residents to build things and they can go do adaptive water skiing, rock climbing canoeing, etc. Don't let the previous reviews fool you. There is NO OTHER place like this and in my opinion it is great.

I have a TBI and have been to two hospitals and two rehab centers in the past four months…read more Hospitals make anyone cranky, but after a few days at Winning Wheels, they seem like paradise. The staff here is negligent, unkind, agressive, loud, and dismissive. Several of the CNA's do not seem to know what their jobs are and inspire no confidence that they are in any way certified. They claim a doctor comes once a week, but that does not happen. I notified the nursing staff several times over the course of days that I was having eye problems. They ignored me, and believed me to making the whole thing up. I was fortunate enough to have a great team at my previous rehab who encouraged me to advocate for myself and stand up for my rights. BY convincing my mother to come pick me up. Winning Wheels caved and allowed me to go to the hospital. Thankfully I did, because I was diagnosed with shingles (on my eye and right side of my face). I contacted my nuero surgeon in Dupage, and he was able to reschedule my surgery. WInning Wheels would have sent me that week, but the shingles virus can spread to your brain during surgery. If I hadn't stood up for my medical and basic human rights I wouldn't have known I had a virus. Since the diagnosis they have withheld my medication on more than one occasion and also did the same with my existing prescription for seizures. I am now in isolation and also being denied assistance and food. They let personal bias interfere with work. On top of everything else, the food is inedible, there are bugs on the premises, and even the facility director has only the response that they can find you a place to relocate to if you don't like it here. Do not come here if you can find an alternative, it is demoralizing and a far too negative enviroment for anyone with upcoming major surgery. If it's the only place you can find for now, be prepared to be neglected, have some clean sheets, clothes, and snacks- and definitely keep in contact with your current support system, as there is no one here to talk to or help you. You'll be assigned a social worker, but they rarely do anything if and when they do show up.

The unique thing is they are also accommodating to physical therapy and therefore low impact items.
