Happily, his office takes both of our insurances. We were able to get back-to-back check-ups recently. Dr. Vargo took us each back for X-rays, exams and consultations. He explained what he was doing and was easy to talk to. He asked us about any dental issues we had and explained how he is a bit more laid back than perhaps other dentists, in that he only drills and fills if he is sure it's a cavity. He pointed to a couple of stains on my molars that others might interpret as cavities, but by scraping them with a dental pick, he could see these weren't cavities. I appreciate that he won't put me through the pain of fillings for no reason. My husband did have a cavity, though. He was able to get a return visit scheduled for the filling within about a week. We were able to each also schedule cleanings. I've already been back for mine. These slots do seem to fill up fast, though, so I'd recommend scheduling in advance. The desk clerk was very positive and friendly. And the location inside MidCity Mall makes it very convenient. You can even go grocery shopping afterward at ValuMarket if in need. Dr. Vargo also mentioned that his office has been open for close to 30 years. It's been WAY too long since I was last at a dentist -- like so long that I'm embarrassed by it -- so I'm happy that I now have a new dental home.

Then after I said no the office manager who is a big Burley guy came over and tried to intimidate me by telling me I needed four crowns! It was like I was at a timeshare event! I remember when I moved to Chicago and tried to find someone else up there. They tried to claim I had 22 cavities. I took the image to Rakutt, and they told me that there were places that tried to take advantage of bright-eyed, naive, people. Lesson learned. He told me I had no cavities and to be careful. I traveled from Chicago to see him. I couldn't trust anyone else. I was one of his first patients he got to put braces on. If my memory serves me correctly, when I first went to him as a wee pre-teen, he did not have the necessary certification to do braces. But he was studying to be able to. Voila! He finished, put some braces on me, and straight teeth are now had. Slightly adjusted as time goes on, but still relatively straight. I love the people that work there. Carlotta, the front of office, always asked about my family and me. She is always smiling and is just a calming presence. I hope he never retires, but I feel the day approaching. Till then, I will keep coming to hear his soothing and calm voice tell me, "Well, everything looks great!!"

Unfortunately, I will no longer be using them because, like most people today, they are out to get you for whatever they can! They charged $509 for a single tooth extraction! The tooth is all the way in the back of the mouth, but it was still highly visible so that it was easily grabbed onto and the procedure took less than 1/2 hour from start to finish. I usually do not enjoy going to the dentist due to discomfort. I had a cavity filled. He took an x ray of the tooth and then took the time to numb me up properly. He used a numbing swab on my gums first then he inserted the numbing needle. I have been to some dental practices where they just stick and that can be uncomfortable. I was fully expecting a root canal as this was a tooth that had a broken filling. He gently cleaned out the decay no pain no issues at all then promptly filled the tooth again. Very simple straight to the point friendly. I would highly recommend him again. His office is very small but very comfortable. Dr Vargo truly cares about whet he is doing. He did not over explain and lecture. He treated me with respect but left no questions unanswered a good balance.

In terms of dentistry, both my visits have been top tier. With my first appointment I was more than impressed with my dental hygienist's skills and "bed-side" manner.
