They are small and beautiful, built when civic pride demanded that buildings reflect grace and craftsmanship, not low-bid utility. Thus, Wells Memorial Library, a fine example of what we once were and a template of hope for what we can aspire to. It's small, elegant, and the librarian appears to be honored just to work there - probably as a volunteer! This is a perfect place to escape a cold winter afternoon and read in a peaceful setting.

This library has really evolved over the past few years into a true community center. From…read morebeautiful physical space to ongoing events for children and adults, there is always something going on. The current staff are welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Events like Legos, Artists' Guild, Tarot Share, Aromatherapy workshops, musical presentations, fiddle jam, author presentations, and more provide something for everyone, regardless of your interests. The WiFi is great and there is meeting space available if you register in advance. They also sponsor Universal Class online, which includes hundreds of free classes across nearly every hobby interest you can think of. Highly recommend!

New librarian seems to be very into order and efficiency, which translates (for us) into fewer new releases that anyone wants to read (the new release section used to be one of the highlights of coming in!) and the kids area seems so much less friendly. Overall, may be nitpicking I realize - but for a safe, clean place to bring your kids it's still pretty good. Love Katie downstairs in kids area and Reggie at front desk area is nice, too.

lake placid, you have some truly breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, hills and lakes…read more you have a charming village nestled around mirror lake. you have a cute little free trolley, to help us lazy tourists when we are too lethargic to climb the steep inclines to our fabulous temporary dwellings. in the winter you must look like one of those quaint alpine villages. you have some decent restaurants, an adorable library, fresh mountain air, and an enchanting bookstore! you have history, you have john brown's body, you have the john brown farm. you have the olympic's past and present avid sportspeople. so two things elude me, where is the lake? oh yes, THE LAKE PLACID? is only to be seen by the high falutin ones? it is hidden in a high society decimal system. i think i shall refer to this village, from this day forward, as mirror lake village. also where the heck did all the REAL adirondack chairs go? i only see them in the shops; what's up with that ?

During the summer I spent in Keene Valley, this library was my connection the outside world. I…read moreused their computers and checked out MANY books. It totally saved me from a summer of boredom. I had enough time that summer to watch the entire series of Sex and the City, and enough time to read about 10 books. As far as I can remember, it was almost always pretty empty and had a decent selection for being pretty small.
