We'd been to the NYC location, and my boyfriend's been to this location several times as well as a few other global locations. Savana Bahn is the largest vegetarian Indian chain in the world, and everywhere we've been it's been good. We did the North Indian thali and South Indian thali, both of which came out with a ton of food. Thalis give you a bit of everything, and everything tasted homemade and fresh and we were so incredibly full by the time we were done. Service was fast. This is an excellent place to come if you're looking for authentic Indian cuisine.

So I stopped in here last Friday and was so disappointed. It was like night and day from my first time here. I had actually planned on going to another restaurant but when I walked by I heard the food calling me. First off, it took them about fifteen minutes to take my order, when I got there I was only one of three tables. When the waitress came to take my order, she didn't say a word to me just stood sideways with her tablet up to her face. I then placed my food order and she walked away before I could tell her what I wanted to drink. It took another 10 minutes before I could tell her my drink order and that was as she was walking by so I wasn't sure if she heard me. It didn't take long before I got a beverage, but it wasn't the one I ordered. To be fair, when I told another waitress that it was the wrong beverage they made good and brought me the correct one. So I sat there and sat there, watched a lot more people come in after me and receive their food, I never did. Not once did my waitress come by to let me know if my food was still coming or not. So after nearly an hour I got up and payed for my beverage and left. The manager who took my money for the beverage told me it takes a half hour to get food there. I was to tired and hungry to tell him I had been there before and didn't have the same problem and that I had been there almost an hour. Will I go back again? Maybe, because the food the first time was good, but it will be a looooong time from now that I go back. I value good customer service.

This is worldwide South Indian Vegetarian chain restaurant. Although they specialize in South Indian food, they also have north Indian food (i.e. curries) most commonly associated with Indian cuisine. I got the paneer makhani. It was the first dish I've had in Germany that was actually spicy! In a good way! Tasted very authentic and more like home cooked food versus the cream laden, belly busting curries often served in restaurants. I like meat and this being a vegetarian establishment definitely is a big knock against it. That being said, I would not hesitate to return if in the company of a vegetarian.

This place is a very famous chain of vegetarian South Indian restaurants around the world and I was so glad to find one here in Frankfurt. They used to be one of the best names in India when I was growing up. Unfortunately this place gives them a bad name. The menu is huge with tons of classical South Indian street food so popular all over India. Classics like dosa, idli, vada and so on. The service is pleasant and quick. The prices are also reasonable for the portions you get. Unfortunately the food lacks any seasoning or flavour and it was bland food totally unlike the food you get in an average South Indian restaurant. It was under seasoned and lacked any of the punchy, pungent flavours I love about South Indian cuisine. I had a masala dosa which was lacking flavour and the filling was bland. The parotta was dry and lacked the flavour and the curries it came with were nothing to talk about. It's a shame as they are two things I love and was so looking forward to a nice meal. I will give it one more try but will think twice before I do. It's not what I would call good authentic South Indian food.

I will start with saying that this is not the best Indian I've ever had. It is, in fact, a global chain. BUT- for a vegetarian restaurant, I highly, highly recommend it. I have spent a great portion of my life as a pescatarian. Only this year did I really start indulging in meat heavily (places I travel to often leave me little choice). But, sometimes, I crave a good, hearty vegetarian meal. I could have ordered anything off of their extensive menu, but to see how the place measured up to other places, I went boring and ordered my usual channa masala. This was a good indicator of whether I'd like the place or not. Channa masala is a northern Indian dish, Punjabi more or less, and Saravanaa Bhavan is a restaurant that specializes in southern Indian cuisine. I wasn't sure how this would pan out.... Well, Saravanaa Bhavan stayed true to its roots and created the channa masala with a coconut milk sauce. I was pleasantly surprised. I never imagined such could work, but it did. And it was delicious. My only complaint about the place was there was a little kid screaming and running around ridiculously undisciplined the entire time. The staff wasn't wanting to be rude (naturally), so they didn't say anything. And the mother seemed to find it funny. Once they left the restaurant, all was well and I was enjoying my meal again. Can't wait to go back here and see what else they have in store for me!

Delicious and authentic south Indian food, usually tasty and fresh. Love eating there especially sambar and dosa.

It's sad to say that the only Indian dish we ever order is Chicken Tikka Masala ... so since there wasn't any available for the buffet we had to stray from our comfort zone and try something new. I tried a little bit of each of the meat dishes and liked all of them! I was too full after my first plate to go back and try the vegetarian dishes but they looked equally as tasty. My super picky husband even really enjoyed the food and went back for seconds on one of the meat and potato dishes. We tried some of the naan and was surprised it looked and tasted different than naan we've had before... theirs is like a skinny wheat naan which was good but different than the fluffy white naan we are use to. The inside decor is a little bland... but the outside area is nice.

One of us has difficulty walking and standing is painful, so we slowly approached a table. Instead of welcoming us or offering us a nearby seat, the owner immediately started acting irritated and anxious, clearly more concerned about finishing setting up the table than showing basic courtesy to customers. Once seated, one chair was noticeably shorter than the others. We moved it slightly closer to the empty neighbouring table. A normal restaurant would simply adjust it or explain politely. Instead, the owner rushed over and started complaining aggressively, as if we had done something wrong. As customers, we are not supposed to guess where extra furniture should go. Ordering was even worse. We ordered starters first and politely asked for a few minutes before choosing the mains. When he came back, he was already stressed and abrupt. As soon as we started ordering the mains, he walked away mid-order to serve another table. We waited 5-10 minutes, then calmly called him back. He returned, acting annoyed, as if we were rushing or bothering him, which was absolutely not the case. At that point, his attitude became openly hostile. He was dismissive, impatient, and rude to the point that we felt uncomfortable staying. We decided to pay and leave without even ordering the mains. No apology. No professionalism. Nothing. On top of all this, the restaurant was uncomfortably cold. Not "slightly chilly". Cold enough to make the experience even more unpleasant. This was some of the worst service I've experienced in years. A rude, stressed owner who clearly should not be dealing with customers. Hospitality is about making guests feel welcome. This place does the opposite. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Avoid it.

Now, I've been waiting for 55 minutes for food. Sitting in the small room with 5 tables, I see all of them have been waiting and are getting noticeably annoyed. The server is friendly but I'm not sure where the breakdown is occurring in the orders and the kitchen. I told the server we will be leaving and just paying for drinks if it's not out soon. Overpriced based on other places of similar style and cuisine in the city. Even the lucky people who got their dish, are still waiting for the bill. Perhaps it's for having two servers for the whole place and no one calling orders at the pass? So disappointed. Note: The dishes, when they finally arrived (total waiting time of 70 minutes, btw) were for the most part, all tasty, for our group. Also, I understand European service since I have been in Europe several times but this was by far the most excessive place I've encountered in terms of wait time, price, and portions- without being the type of place you'd expect that would give you small portions, higher prices, and poor service.

I finally got to go there two months ago with my boyfriend and another Yelp Elite for dinner. So, here's the deal- this place looks like it is straight out of India. Very no frills and very basic design, etc. It actually reminded me slightly of a hotel restaurant I ate at in India whilst watching cricket. The only difference is the hotel I ate at didn't call itself "call food" which makes me think I'm picking up hookers and not a samosa. Anyways. The food that first night was delicious and hearty. It had immense flavor and even came with a nice amount of heat. I knew the place had a 6 Euros all-you-can-eat buffet during the week, so I vowed to get back for that as soon as I could! I finally made it back for the buffet and it didn't disappoint. The buffet consisted of two different chicken dishes, one very spicy and the other rather mild, palak, dal, papadoms, and two types of rice. The buffet is not huge, but I was rather grateful for that. Every dish was exceptional and made for a very enjoyable lunch. Despite being run by Sri Lankans, they do carry dishes from all over India, as well as some Sri Lankan specialties and a few Pakistani ones. I don't believe there is any halal meet, however (not 100% on that). They also don't serve alcohol. I can't wait to get back to this place. It is not for everyone, but considering Indian is my go-to food most days of the week at home, it is nice to find a basic, yet delicious place to eat out every-so-often.
