If you're on the Southside of Indy and particularly want authentic Muay Thai (on top of BJJ +…read moreBoxing), this is the place I would recommend. I was in town visiting family still in the Greenwood area and didn't think I'd be able to find any gym nearby with good bags to train on. I'm coming from the old Fairtex camps out of NorCal and was happy to see they had a Fairtex banana bag and similar heavy bags setup to hit on. They even had 3 separate speed bag stations (for varying heights) with the smaller, quicker speed bags which are great to use. Kru Ian was very hospitable. Took time to even chat it up a bit on top of giving pointer (and reminder!) on my "lazy" teep! If you want to get in shape and learn 1 of the best martial arts for self-defense and/or be a competitive fighter, Muay Thai with a supplemental foundation in Western Boxing is where it's at IMHO. You are NEVER too old. I'm 52 and even new members I meet think I'm in my 30s. Kru Ian is in his mid-40s and could easily pass for 30! Thank you Sir. I am very grateful for your time and use of your facility! -Edgar https://www.beatsbysiredgar.love/ Yelp's #1 Ranked DJ for Napa Yelp's #1 Ranked DJ for Calistoga Yelp's #1 Ranked DJ for St. Helena Yelp's #1 Ranked DJ for Yountville Yelp's #1 Ranked DJ for San Francisco Yelp's #1 Ranked DJ for Palo Alto Training out of KOA Fitness, Newark CA

On my first day, I was welcomed by one of the instructors, Jonathan. He could probably tell that I was intimidated (I am female) and overwhelmed, so he took me aside and taught me a few moves and told me about all the "regulars" who come in to class. I originally signed up only for the kickboxing, but discovered I also like Brazilian Ju Jitsu, and all the other classes they have to offer. LaMont Taylor is a great instructor, positive, and motivational. Oftentimes when I come to class it's like getting a private lesson. This place is not like 9-Round or Iron Fit. You will actually learn moves, technique, and have the opportunity to spar with classmates & instructors. Whereas, at the other gyms, you get an intense workout by only punching a bag and training like a boxer. Everyone has different preferences, but I enjoy learning more of the self-defense at Headbangers KBA. 13/10 I highly recommend!

However, i liked every single class. I have been taking kickboxing classes for a year through Groupon just to try different locations and classes and this is one of the kickboxing class I would recommend. Unfortunately, it's little too far from where I live. they do mix classes with children and adults, which I did not expect, but nothing wrong with that concept. All of them have been training longer than we have for sure. The instructors like to do some random 1:1 sessions during our workout which I liked. Having that short 1:1 session just to see what you can improve was a plus! I would definitely recommend this place for some great kickboxing class. Also they call their kickboxing, muy tai.

So before I started cancer treatment my son went to Sarkine's Total Warrior now Indianapolis Martial Arts Club on west Washington St. ran by James and Ray (the owner) well I was sick and not working and not able to afford to keep paying them, so I let them know I needed to cancel! I explained my medical issue before knowing I had cancer I was just extremely sick everyday with no explanation. They advised to cancel in writing so I did that. They sent me a letter and I returned the remaining things to cancel. I hear nothing back they don't reach out about lack of payment lack of attendance anything. Then while I'm sick and fighting for my life literally they sue me over a contract that I cancelled. I missed court due to being sick, they garnish my wages once I start working. Then I am rediagnosed and unable to work and have no income this gym hires and attorney to attempt to get more money. I explain my current terminal cancer diagnoses and that I'm not working and that I had cancelled the contract. Today they levied my account for almost $5,000. This gym has predatory business values to say the least so if you ever have considered doing business with Ray or James please be aware of their true human nature. They will be getting a 1 star review from me and I would appreciate any assistance to shed light on the type of business they run. They also have a secondary location off Allisonville Rd. Please leave them a 1 start google review they need to feel this in their pockets too I'm definitely not the only one they have done this too!!!!!

The thought of joining a martial arts gym was a bit intimidating because I struggle with social anxiety. But the students and coaches at IBJJA were welcoming, encouraging, and very understanding of my lack of experience. The 30 day free trial helped me get started, and I was hooked by the first introductory class. All of the coaches are very friendly, professional, and highly knowledgeable about all things martial arts, fighting, exercise, health, and conditioning. The teaching style here is technical, detail oriented, and thorough, which works really well for me as a student. IBJJA has always had the highest standard for cleanliness. The mats, equipment, bathroom, locker room, and lobby are always cleaned and very well maintained. I can't say enough nice things about the academy, the instructors, or my fellow students. Training here changed my life for the better. I'm more confident, disciplined, and I'm constantly motivated to make healthy decisions. I'm in the best shape of my life, mentally and physically, and I'm always improving. If you're looking for a fitness club that you can slip in and out without being known and without being pushed, then this probably isn't for you. But if you want to actually reach your fitness goals and get in shape, then I'd look into Thrive. The best part about Thrive is the community! There's a Crossfit class (obviously), but there's also a class called "ThriveLite" which is a 45-min class that utilizes less weights and more cardio. And for the bodybuilders, there's a weightlifting club. The structure of the gym is class-based. This means that when you come, you'll be working out with other people of various skill levels. This also means you'll have a coach who explains every movement and pushes you and the other Thrivers in the class to do more than you think you're capable of. It's like getting all the benefit of a personal trainer without the awkward "Just work out while I stand here and stare at you" from some personal trainers. You also get an online profile where you track your progress from each workout so you can measure your progress. It's worth it.
