This studio is beautifully simple in a zen aesthetic sense (no small talk, no flashy mirrors, decorations or music). Yoga here may be more physically intense (ie relatively more physically intense of a work out than many people might expect from an "average yoga class" (whatever that is)). It's hard to describe the "all levels" class's intensity level: it's kinda like a vinyasa flow class plus not short but medium length holds of some of the more active (and weight bearing) poses. I personally end up taking at least a few passes on some of the more challenging poses and take a few child's pose/sitting breaks for the first 2-3 classes whenever I visit this studio for the first time in many months(I live a few hours away and can only visit.) I personally like the physical challenge and rigor / I find the physical exertion part (like a long run) helps focus me on my body and live in the the present moment/ be present in my yoga breath (rather than live in all the random thoughts in my head about the past or the future). I would recommend trying a few classes to see if this studio's style and pace might also be for you. Chuck is the main teacher and owner. He is kind and deeply committed to living the values of yoga, in and out of the studio. The studio has massage treatment rooms. There are 2 female massage therapists. I made a return to trying out yoga in order to get ready for my wedding. I had tried yoga a few times before but never stuck with it. While there are a variety of levels of yoga goers in the classes, ranging from "holy cow how did you do that with your legs?!?" to me, who was trying not to fall over and holding in my swear words during certain poses, I felt comfortable in the class and not like I shouldn't be there. The instructor was very helpful and encouraging and the class was extremely peaceful. I'd encourage anyone new to yoga to give Sattva a try. read more

This place is wonderful! From the time you walk in, you're bombarded by the peace & tranquility of the place. Bright, but somehow muted colors appeal to your eyes while your mind is taken over by the relaxation thar seems to breathe through the place. The classes vary from a Level 1 for newcomers, a restorative class for de-stressing, and the more advanced level 1+ and level 2. Even if you're a newcomer to yoga, Chuck will show you what you need to get started. If you're looking for more than just your typical fitness yoga class, this is the place to go. This is the place to go when you need a break from reality! Chuck, the instructor is extremely friendly and is clearly passionate about yoga. He divides up his time throughout class in order to authenticate your poses and offer assistance if need be. This particular studio is aesthetically pleasing with an ideal balance of feng shui present. Three various difficulty levels of yoga are offered at Sattva Yoga Center, which appeal to all individuals and allow for personal growth. Make sure you arrive to class right on time or else the front doors are locked and you will have to wait outside! read more

This is a very serious yoga center. In contrast to most yoga studios, this isn't a place with a chatty, verbally encouraging instructor ("happy Monday!" "warrior two looking beautiful everyone!"), and there isn't any music during class. The studio is totally silent before and after class. Classes start on time. Level 1 is a very basic level 1, but I enjoyed getting to revisit simpler positions for a longer period of time than I normally do in more advanced classes. I really appreciated the very long shavasana. Even though no music is a little hard for me, I liked that it was replaced by a loop of ujjayi breathing. It helped me remember to breathe. A tip: the instructor speaks somewhat softly and a bit fast--though I got used to it over class--so I would sit near the front. He doesn't model almost any poses, so sit behind someone who looks like they know what they're doing if you're new. read more

Giving 3 stars for the friendly instructor, beautiful space, and overall good environment. Knocking two stars because this, to me, was more difficult than is necessary for an "all levels" class. I've been practicing on and off for a couple of years, so I know part of why this was difficult for me is because I haven't practiced yoga seriously in a while. That being said, I've been to beginners or "all levels" yoga classes at multiple centers in the Metro Detroit area and this was by far the hardest. I got to the point where my body was shaking and I wondered if I could maintain a particular asana... again, I haven't practiced in a while but I'm 21, I'm in pretty good physical shape and go to the gym. A woman behind me after the class said "Jeez, I'm really going to be sore tomorrow." So, if you are looking for what is really an intermediate class, go here!! The class itself was good and if I'd been practicing more often this class would be perfect, but it certainly is more fitness heavy yoga than yoga focused on spirituality and the breath, which is more of what I was looking for. The instructor did not really call attention to the breath more than once at the beginning of class - in fact, she just instructed poses with very little anything in between. If you are looking for a slow flow with a focus on spiritual wellness, I'd recommend going somewhere else, but if you are looking for a potentially challenging fitness class, go to Sattva. read more

I really can't say enough about Saatva. I've wanted to try yoga for a long time. I've had multiple spinal surgeries & chronic pain most of my adult life (I'm 42). This summer was particularly bad. Stretching really helps so I finally worked up the courage to go alone and just walked in. I loved it immediately. First, Chuck is awesome. I told him about my back and he worked with me, modifying certain positions so I'd not hurt myself. And he helps all the students, constantly. I never feel inept. Even after 3 months I still fall over and wobble all over the place but he still helps and works with me diligently. There are varying levels of classes to try. Classes are full but not cramped and it's calm and peaceful setting. I now try to go as many days a week as I can. For the first time in over 20 years I am standing up straight, walking straight and have very little pain. I see muscles again. I rode 30 miles on a bike last week (no way before yoga). I can stand and walk for much longer periods then ever before (standing was a killer). I leave for Europe in a few days and for once I'm not worried about the pain of sitting on a long flight or hefting luggage or walking a city. Yoga isn't easy but it's a satisfying and rewarding challenge. I can't wait to see the continued changes in my body (and mind) in the coming months. read more

Sattva yoga center is the best studio in metro Detroit! I have been practicing here for about a year. If you have been practicing for years or new to yoga, this studio welcomes everyone and the instructors will help you tailor the classes to your personal journey. Chuck (owner and instructor) takes the time to get to know you and help you tailor your practice based on your personal needs and limitations. Getting personal attention and guidance has helped me understand what a posture should look like and what I should be feeling while in the posture. I've grown an enormous amount coming to this studio. The focus on the breath during class has helped my stress levels and calmed me during my practice and throughout the rest of my day. I've always been athletic, but never been flexible and each day I practice I feel and see noticeable results in my flexibility and strength! If you have questions or want pointers here, ask! They try not to be invasive, but they are always happy to help and spend the time ensuring you are getting the most out of your practice. read more

This is my favorite Yoga studio in the Metro Detroit Area. You feel the serenity as soon as you walk through the door. It is meditative yoga. There is no loud music playing or heaters making you sweat. You are on your mat with your thoughts in your body and the instructors and the environment gently guide to and support finding this peace. There is a quiet and calm in the room and you can feel the support and respect. This place is a gem. read more

It was my first yoga class and I really like it! I went abroad for a while and took some yoga classes in Argentina and they were not even close. I go back and forth to and every time that i return, my mind is in booking my yoga classes. Chuck is excellent and the place is perfect!. I will recomend this place to anyone who is interested in starting yoga. read more
