I love reading Sauce. The landmarks are always a nice way to highlight some of St. Louis' long standing restaurant dining traditions, and it shifts the focus to some of the restaurants that have been around and stood the test of time, not just the latest and hottest place at the moment. The reviews are always trustworthy. I like that it's a positive read. One reviewer didn't think they did a good job, and I say kudos to you Sauce. This is a local magazine helping local business owners and restaurants. A bad review can shatter someone's business, so if they don't like it, I imagine they just don't write about it. It's a good business model! My mother always told me, " if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." I do wish they covered more of the everyday type restaurants because I can't afford to eat all the time at the places they talk about, but it's always solid advice on some great places to dine. read more

St. Louis is lucky to have such a in-depth publication on local food! By no means am I a "foodie", but I still take great pride in our city when reading Sauce. One of the best things about this local mag is the pictures - they are GORGEOUS! Coming from someone who now has to photograph food all of the time, I can appreciate their talent! Their pics look waaaay more appetizing than mine ever will :) Also, the articles are really interesting! The writers do a great job of picking subjects that us "non-foodies" don't know much about and make it easily digestible (no pun intended!). Finally, they do a great job of picking and choosing what events to feature at the end of the mag. No need to sort through hundreds and hundreds of listings on the calendar - they do the work for you! I like how they prefer quality over quantity. I look forward to reading this every month and wish them the best in their future food endeavors! read more

We look forward to each new issue of Sauce. At times we pick up two copies so we don't have to wait for the other to finish reading. It provides good information about events, new openings and still highlights restaurants that have been here awhile as St. Louis favorites. Another reviewer didn't think they gave honest criticism, I do. I just want the facts, I'll decide if it is to my liking. I don't trust movie critics, so why should I trust restaurant critic. Keep up the good work Sauce, your doing a great job on educating the public and encouraging them to expand their experiences in food. Sauce is free, it is worth my time and once you've read it I'm sure you'll be looking for the next issue. read more

Ok, I'm the only one who has bad things to say about Sauce. But bear with me. I love finding out about new restaurants, but I want good information. This magazine has lovely photographs, some interesting pieces about techniques or ingredients -- and positive, gushing stories and interviews about restaurants. Reviews that offer criticism do so in the most timid, tentative manner possible. Essentially, this is the sort of magazine the National Restaurant Association dreams of: every restaurant is great! some are just a tiny bit less great than others! I can't rely on this magazine to offer honest criticism or to tell me whether I'm likely to get my money's worth at a restaurant. So, even though it's free, Sauce isn't worth my time. read more

I always look forward to picking up the new issue of Sauce magazine! They always have interesting covers and I love reading the articles, reviews, recipes and even the ads. Restaurants go all out on their ads in here and you can usually find good info on special events and other items of interest to foodies. I really like that they include recipes, and I've tried several of them. They are usually good. One of my favorites is for the squash "spaghetti" that was on the cover of the main picture of the listing on here. My stepdad makes it and it is AMAZING. I would like them to do another vegetarian issue soon! I also liked their Missouri edibles issue. I learned a lot! That it's free is awesome. I'd pay for it if I had to. I enjoy it that much! read more

The quickest and easiest way to find restaurants in the area, read reviews from local "pro" critics and regular patrons, and learn what's current in the St. Louis cuisine scene. St. Louis is very fortunate, not only to have Sauce as a resource for foodies, but also that it is such a high quality publication. Let's just hope the talents behind this publication aren't stolen by a bigger city. If you have some spare time - get out there on their restaurant search and add some reviews. While I am by no means a "foodie", or what claims to such a lofty title I do have to say that I enjoy reading this publication every month. It's nice to have this magazine in our fair city and has pointed me in the direction of some new places to try, because if I hadn't read a write up would have completely passed over my ADHD brain (sometimes people, I just over look things... not on purpose... I swear!). The photos are what make me want to look on each and every page, because they are just that damn good.. but the info is what keeps me entertained. read more

I absolutely, positively love this magazine!!!! Sauce magazine is my go to guide for where to eat in and around the St. Louis and surrounding areas. Sauce informs readers of the numerous restaurants and their dishes, various chefs and their cooking styles, countless drinks and gadgets not to mention displays to its readers their unbridled passion for food. I love reading the various articles and drooling over the many pictures. And of course Sauce keeps me well informed regarding what's trending in the food scene and who is the latest up and coming chef or restaurant to try. I consider myself a foodie and this magazine keeps me ahead of the game. This publication goes above and beyond. read more

I agree that Sauce doesn't want to give out bad reviews, but as a magazine, it is decent. Nice photos and layout. My complaint is with the website - if you report some bit of news, they never follow up on it (such as a place closing). Almost like if they didn't find out about it, it didn't happen. Also, for their listings, comments are taken done periodically, thus eliminating information that might be helpful (though it might be dated). read more

Am I the only one that's completely addicted to Sauce Magazine? I never knew this thing existed, then I move back home and it's everywhere. I got curious one day and picked it up, and now I wait with baited breath for the next issue to come out and tell me where I should be eating (and therefore, next yelping....it's sad little cycle, I know). This magazine is great and the website is even better. If I am ever scratching my head trying to think of something new to do, I always turn to Sauce. I always have one in the backseat of my car just in case my friends and I have are at a loss for places to go drinking, or for lunch. They always have a ton of great veggie suggestions for herbivores like myself, and thus far I have loved every place they have suggested. I also love the new restaurant features and the local chef's favorites. It's kind of like looking at the employee's favorites at Blockbuster...you might not like the movie, but you feel a little more comfortable an "expert" has suggested it, so you take it home with you. As I said before, the website is great as well and I use it supplementary to yelp often when I am shopping for a new eatery. Certainly worth picking up next time you are at the grocery store. Just look for it next to the RFT bin. read more

I think I'm obsessed with Sauce Magazine. It's to the point where if it's a new month and we're out to dinner, my FRIENDS will point out the new issue to me and say, "Have you picked one up yet?" But it's such a fun publication about all things food. Yeah, it's mostly all positive reviews, but it does such a GREAT job promoting the foodie scene in St. Louis. I take all the reviews with a grain of salt, but the pictures, the recipes, and the recommended events are all really the highlights of the magazine. And you get such great ideas from each issue. Its been pretty helpful so far as someone new to the area, but I have only seen one issue so take it for what its worth but have spent a fair amount of time their site. It is much better than the ones in Atlanta that only do the high end places. The website looks pretty decent and I have checked out a few of the places they talked about and were impressed.
