Over the past few years, I watched every documentary I could find about it, and each new detail made me even more interested in the ship, its crew, and its legacy. My wife and I spent several months planning the trip from our home in west-central Indiana to the museum, and we finally made it there this month. The experience exceeded every expectation. What Stood Out: * The museum displays were powerful and thoughtfully presented. * The surrounding area and beach added even more meaning to the visit. * The story was preserved in a way that felt personal, respectful, and deeply moving. I am a 63-year-old grandpa, a retired military veteran and biker and certain stories just hit me hard. This museum broke my heart in the best and most meaningful way. Every time I hear Lightfoot's song, it brings tears to my eyes, and I find myself praying for the wives, sons, daughters, and families affected by this tragedy. Thank you for bringing this story--and so many others like it--back to life. I loved this trip, and I am grateful for your work in preserving this important history. Brilliant!

The cost was $17 pp…read more They have basically taken the inside of this massive cargo ship and turned it into a big museum, it is very cool if you have the time not only do they have about 100 exhibits of many of the cargo ships from the 1800s and beyond, but the families that had artifacts have donated such things for each of these displays, it's very interesting. They've actually cut out access to the engine room, which is really interesting to see as as well as as you can see the restored officers quarters at a variety of different seniority levels. One of the highlights was the exhibit for the Edmund Fitzgerald, I know there is a larger museum up at whitefish point but this was very interesting too It's definitely worth the time if you like a little bit of history and love to hear about the seafarers

It was by far the best museum that we visited in the UP that was about freighters and shipwrecks. It is one of those places that you could visit multiple times and see something new each time you go. Very cool area run by the army corp of engineers- they offer free entry and you can watch ships go…read morethrough the locks. There is a phone number on their website that you can call periodically to see if they have any scheduled ships coming through. The visitor center looks to have a scavenger hunt of type for the kids, so make sure to pick that up. There are some fun exhibits in here, some hands-on type activities. Also make sure to check out the small museum in the out building, it's not large, but there were some interesting pieces in there from a variety of ships and a gift shop

One out and another two Soo Lock tour boats headed out the other end. Cool to watch the lock gates open and close and watch the water line rise against the concrete wall.

I think learning about these incredible creatures is the best way to decrease the negative stigma and fear surrounding them.
