Thermen Berendonck

This is, without a doubt, the best sauna/spa in Europe. I travel to Europe twice a month to…read morevarious countries,, and was not expecting the grandeur and opulence of Thermen Berendonck. I booked a morning session in advance, and took a taxi from my hotel. As you approach the Thermen Berendonck hotel and main spa, there is a large park and lake, that will feature in Panasonic Sauna, one of the many on the property. The staff was superb, and check-in was easy. As customary, you have a wristband that allows you access to your locker and the ability to charge food or drinks to your bill. The property is quite large with a large indoor/outdoor pool, spas, and numerous saunas across temperature ranges and atmospheres.

Just to get it out there... we've visited a LOT of sauna/spa complexes around Europe. Berendonck ticks all those boxes, having ascended to one of our top three spa destinations in all of Europe. The indoor/outdoor pool is always warm enough for hanging out at the swim-up bar. We also love the steam room with aromatic salts, as well as the other warm pools great for soaking. The saunas are lovely as well, and the food is always great at the restaurant - though the menu is ONLY in Dutch or German. (And you can't have your phone with you to translate since no devices are allowed in the spa area.) If you find co-ed nudity upsetting - DON'T GO! There are no swimsuits allowed anywhere in the facility, though you are expected to wear a bathrobe when you're not soaking or sweating. Most definitely in the restaurant. Truly a magical place. Get over the nudity thing and love life for a hot second. : )
