This location is very polite. I find the selection good. And they were especially accommodating. I wanted to make a soup but being single I honestly don't want a full cabbage. I asked the produce guy stocking the area if it's possible to buy half. He said sure and asked me to pick one. Took it to the back chopped and wrapped it and gave them both back to me to pick one Same goes for meat section. I wanted ox tail bit at $25 for 4 pieces I only wanted enough for one meal I don't want it eat leftovers or freeze it. So the meat manager took it to the back split the pack and yep gave me two to pick from. I love how you can mix and match meats now to do $20. Super nice smaller packs so you're not eating chicken thighs all week long Customer service desk service is really slow but super polite every time I've been there for something. A lighter gun or the key to the bathroom. As for self check out. I only do self checkout. I find the attendant for the area is very absent and absentminded and often times you're standing there during a lull in the shoppers and then you need her and she's nowhere and you can wait a good 4-7 mins for her to re appear and it's happened quite a lot. Wish the attendant would stay at her booth my checkout keeps asking if I still want to continue and it's about to time out. Aside from that. I love this location. It's walking distance from my house. As our closest grocery store, we rely on this Save-on-Foods in a pinch. This location has a good selection of everything you might need for the kitchen and beyond. Pharmacy? Check. Milk, eggs and cookies? You bet. Bakery, bulk section, frozen goods, canned goods and whatchumacallits? All of these. All the rage these days, they also have self check-out counters, though a limited number of them - and surprisingly, the staff member is quick to assist where needed. We've placed a couple online orders with pickup at the store. This has been a mixed experience. On our first order, the staff member forgot half of our order upstairs, and we had to make a return trip to pickup the remaining items. For convenience, being able to order beforehand and have staff members pick out your items is great. In general, most of my interaction with the staff at this location has been at the checkouts. They're usually efficient and we're out the door with our reusable bags packed in a flash. Overall, it's a good supermarket to have close by, and for regular staples and sale items, you can't go too wrong here. Everything else, be wary of the sticker price. read more

It is located in a very convenient location along side with many stores such as Shoppers, BC Liquor Store, Club 16 and etc. Customer service was good. The place isn't too busy. This is one of the popular grocery chains in the area. At this location, there is a convenient underneath parking lot that others don't offer. It's much easier to park and take a walking sidewalk right into the store front. Navigating the store is reliant on signs that are at each aisle. No alcohol is sold at grocery stores. You must purchase these products at the beer and wine stores. Bring your own grocery bags, or you will be charged for this. Prices are a bit higher than the States, but the exchange rate makes up for the increases. read more

Save On Foods has... well, food. =P I don't usually shop here for toiletries or household products since they are slightly higher priced than other grocery stores, but they have a great deli and meat section. They have one of the best rotiserrie chicken and a section of pre-made foods. It ranges from salads, to pastas and sandwiches. The area in the back has a lot of pre-marinated fish that I like to grab and bake. Sometimes after work, you just don't feel like cooking in your kitchen for 45 minutes. Save On Foods is my savior once a week. They are also open until midnight so I can make my 9PM chocolate craving runs! read more

Save on Foods Highgate is one of the worst grocery stores I've been to. Specially if you like self checkout. Their system is always buggy. But they always blame you for it. Something went wrong nearly every time I've been there. Payment won't accept debit or credit cards. I call help and he gives me the standard spiel that it's only happened with my cards. So he leads me to another payment terminal where he enters my card and it works. No surprise. While we are heading there, there's another customer stuck and unable to pay just like me. The help doesn't even apologize for lying. Another time I place a can of powdered drink. And the system freezes. Again I look for help. But the help is flirting with a customer and totally ignoring my call for help. I waited 5 minutes till help arrived and unfroze their buggy system. The last time I went there, the number of bags used wouldn't work. I pressed 2 several times and it didn't work. So I checked out without entering bags. After I checkout, this dweeb suddently comes up to me aggressively and accused me of not paying for the bags. I told him I tried several times to enter the bag. It didn't work. So I went to their customer service and told them what happened. I paid the 20 cents. And as usual they blamed it on me! They said I'm the only one who complained about number of bags could not be entered. I've done self checkouts at many other stores. Seamless. No hassle. But I felt harassed and frustrated every time I've gone to Save On Foods at Highgate. It's a convinient location. And that's all. Otherwise plenty of other stores with better selection and pricing. Even when Covid was spreading rapidly, this Save On Foods location didn't observe social distancing. Many of their customer facing employees were not wearing masks. It is situated in a shopping complex where you can find Y Yoga, Club 16, shoppers Subway TD Rogers Starbucks etc. I've always had good customer service but checkouts can be slow. Nicer, relatively newer location than Metrotown, and like the parking better too. More convenient w/ the Shoppers here is a bonus. You can also enter in from the other side besides Kingsway, note the rush hour restrictions. It's also a tad smaller too but has everything one would need in terms of groceries. When you walk in, I like how the bakery tempts you with their nice display of black forest cakes, fruit flans, donuts, etc. Even offers pre-made sushi though there's already one store around the corner haha. Save-on is my go-to grocery store. They have most everything I need for everyday cooking and eating. The ethnic and specialty ingredient selection is decent, and I'm especially big on the bulk section (some people might say Buffet section) for candies, nuts, and baking ingredients. The produce is good; although I might wish for more local product, they do seem to carry more of than their competitors, and at better prices. And be still my eco-heart, Save-on carries eco-friendly cleaning products from Seventh Generation and Nature Clean as well as health foods likes Nature's Path cereal. My only complaint is that this particular store is a bit squishy, making one wish there was a legal loophole for clotheslining kids on those rollerskating shoes. Oops, am I in your way, Junior? Luckily, there's a liquor store just across the way. read more

Place gets busy and lack of cashiers. Met a grumpy old man who didn't like that I didn't put the basket down properly. So? Fix it then!! Saw another lady do the same thing. We make mistakes. Customer service counter doesn't have a scale and waited only to go back to line up again. Not a good meat selection. Don't see a lot of vegan products like vegan jerky. Desserts are a bit better then Safeway but the cake selection was not too good when I was there. Very few samples like T and T. read more

My favorite Save On Foods ever, and my favorite supermarket in the world. And I have been to many around the world. It's the best supermarket for me. I used to live here and would come here almost daily. It's that fun! Big supermarket I can spend over an hour in. They are the only store now that carries blue/pink sour gummies in the big tub. I have called from the other side of the world to this store before to ask if they still had it so someone could bring it to me while I was living overseas. They have a Timmy's and McDonald's. It's everything I ever want in a supermarket! Big parking lot. Close to mall, restaurants, everything. The grocery stores in SF do not compare. I get Safeway here. I never shopped at Safeway in Canada. Whenever I'm in town, I make a stop here to stock up on my sour bottles, ketchup chips, and Smarties. read more

Great grocery store! They have plenty of flowers and plants in the front and outside, and they keep the store clean. Everything is very organized and fresh since this is a newly opened supermarket. There are also starbucks downstairs, which makes me easier to enjoy and rest. The only thing I might complain is the parking lot on the ground is always full. Underground parkade is nice when it's raining so if you buy lots you'll stay dry when loading groceries in the car. Had to take the escalator up to the store and was greeted with a lot if sneers and funny looks by the regular lay about a hanging at the courtyard having their morning smoke. The staff here seem to not enjoy their jobs what so ever as none of them smile or even say a "hi" or "hello" the self checkout makes for quick work if the line if there aren't a lot of other people waiting to pay. The bakery gets bonus points as they always have a good selection at 7 am for fresh made muffins and such. The cheese buns are super salty from the bakery tho. read more

This Save On Foods is very close to my house, so I tend to go here for all of my everyday grocery shopping needs. I find that the staff are coping with "The Covid Situation" very well! There is typically a line of around 10 people to get in, to help with social distancing, which I don't mind. I would love to try the amazing sushi they have in their coolers, it looked delightful. The Starbucks is also great! The barista even complimented my hair. The cashier staff are a bit hit or miss, with one of them being the loveliest woman I've ever met, and the other making me feel a tad bit unwelcome. Overall, great grocer! read more

Every time I find myself in this store I ask myself WHY?! Well, probably because I just came from the gym and it's right there. The line ups are long and service slow. It's not cheap, let me tell you. Don't let the name fool you, 'Save-on'! nothing. Some of their 'bulk' food items are mis-labelled and on a few occasions, the bulk foods cost more than the packaged. The check out stand looks cluttered and it's the worse part of shopping at this location. I rather drive another 5 minutes to Price Smart at Market Crossing. Maybe it's because Save On Foods tends to have less busy-ness and better staffing than Superstore at Metrotown, but I felt a welcome difference in the staff there. Customer service counter at this store has excellent service. Everytime I deal with people at the counter, they always get it right for me and I'm always satisfied with the end result. I like their customers come first attitude. It's rare these days for supermarket stores. I almost feel like I'm at MEC because their customer service is excellent too. This Save-On-Foods store is much superior than the Station Square -Metrotown location, even though it's smaller. I can always buy what I want at this Highgate location without the hassle of going to a mega supermarket store. There are always weekly sales on items, but most stuff sold are decently priced. One star only because of the convenient location to where I work. That being said, I normally go there for lunch as they have a pretty big deli but the 'ladies' that work behind the counter are miserable. I've witnessed them being horribly rude to other customers and they have flat out ignored me (by turning their backs on me as soon as I walk up.... I know you saw me!!!) on multiple occasions. The worst part of all is that they constantly shut down their Deli cash register around 5pm ALL OF THE TIME. When I'm working a later shift, that is when I get my break and I most certainly do NOT have time to be standing in a line up, 8 people deep, just to get a pre packaged sandwich! Today will be the last time I ever shop there and I certainly won't miss being 'served' by miserable people who don't take their gloves off to ring cash through a cash register. Located in the Middlegate Shopping Centre, this is an area that's shown continuous development. The service is friendly and you'll be able to find your staples here but I still expect more selection for this size. Maybe with the closure of the Station Square location, this one will expand a bit more. read more
