Some of those young students staff were especially so kind to me when I was so badly injured. They have a good selection and I especially love the convenience of their fabulous organic and health section that beats all the other stores. I love it when they bring in the fresh dandelion leaves and so did my naturopath who cured a patient of a serious health issue when I told their office that the leaves were available at Country Grocer! But I ended up in what I can only describe as a full-blown carrot cake standoff. I purchased a slice of carrot cake, only to discover, once home, that it contained shredded coconut. I loathe coconut. The texture is unmistakable to anyone who's ever had it (and hates it). So I drove back the next day and politely asked if I could swap it for something else, not a refund, just a coconut-free treat. What followed was like something out of a sitcom. The staff convened a mini tribunal. The cake was taken behind closed doors and inspected. I was assured that the recipe ONLY contained walnuts (and was not to believe my own eyes - and taste buds). I was even handed a new slice and told, confidently, "No coconut here." I opened the box and pointed right at the flecks of the offending ingredient. Still - the manager insisted: "That's walnut." Spoiler alert: it wasn't. The level of denial was surreal. What could've been a simple, friendly interaction instead turned defensive and weirdly authoritarian. No accountability. No flexibility. Just "take it or leave it" and I left with less respect for a business I truly wanted to support. This isn't just about taste. It's about trust. If staff don't know what's in their own products (or worse, deny what's clearly there), it raises concerns for anyone with dietary sensitivities or allergies. Pomme worker(s) don't wear masks, act evasive and act untoward when confronted…read more I was in the Pomme store in Nanaimo at 7:30 PM on March 3rd, 2021. I grabbed a few things quickly and checked out. When checking out I noticed the cashier was wearing one of those small plastic chin strap guards. It doesn't even cover the nose, and is far from the mouth anyways. It's worthless as a mask. I said what "I think what you are wearing is useless as a mask". The cashier heel turned, "Well, I have my reasons for wearing it" and acted like I was untoward and none of my business. I've been wearing masks for everyone for the last year, to help reduce COVID infections and recent infections have a circuit breaker in April 2021 in BC. Because of this, I think not wearing a mask is not a cool move. Also, I would like to know before shopping if a store workers ignore health guidelines. Store was almost empty besides the cashier, so the cashier was a manager or well seen by the management.

When…read morewe opened the bottle at home, which had a plastic seal on it, we discovered the glass bottle was broken underneath. It had been sheared off at the top at the level of the screwtop. We took it straight back to swap it out for a new one and the man refused to exchange it for an unbroken one. He said he would lose money because the company wouldn't allow him to send it back. No refunds or exchanges because he couldn't sell it again. No concerns about selling a defective or dangerous item, and apparently no concerns about losing a customer over a $7 bottle, because after this dreadful customer service, we won't be back.
