I used to like savers years ago. Decent variety and clean well organized store, however you will not find any "deals" here. I was in utter shock as I started to look at the prices, and also heard another woman remark she couldn't believe the prices either (spoiler alert we weren't shocked because they were low). I used to be a huge fan of the Savers store in Plaistow. I have donated carloads of good used furniture, clothing and household appliances to this store over the years. Whomever they have doing the pricing on goods at this store isn't doing a very good job. Their prices have skyrocketed on used items that have been donated. I am sorry, but $20 for nothing special used flannel shirt is NO deal. I can go to Kohls down the street and pay that for brand new. Also know, there are no longer any dressing rooms. If you get home and things don't fit, you can return for an exchange of equal value. No refunds. From now on, I will donate things too good for the trash to Savers. Anything of value I will donate to goodwill or one of the local thrift shops that do good things with their profits or post on FB as a curb alert. read more

This place has a lot of good varieties and deals but as of lately the price has gone way up. A lot of used or donated clothes cost more than your local Marshals or Kohls. A pair of jeans can go well over $25. I can understand if it was an expensive name brand but for reg average clothings..it's ridiculous. I even found a few dollar store items that were marked up to 5 dollars when the dollar tree 2 stores down in the same plaza has it for $1.25. I was told by the "manager" Amanda, and the clerk Hanna that I couldn't exchange a $2.49 for a $2.49 item. I used a 20% off coupon on the item that I purchased same day. Originally, I was told I could exchange clothing and shoes. I purchased over $100 worth of clothing. 2 items didn't fit and 1 item was torn. When I went in to [exchange] the 3 items I was told that they didn't give out store credit cards and I had to find items to exchange. They don't give store credit. They don't give any cash. So I found items and I brought them to the front to check out. I was told that I couldn't exchange the items for the original price of the item because I had already used me 20% off. They wanted me to "return" my $2.49 item and purchase a $1.99 item or else pay the difference. On principle, NO. I explained that it didn't make sense because I bought the item, at that time, under the impression that I could do an even exchange. Basically, I was asking for them to apply the 20% off to the items I picked for exchange. I was told that they couldn't do it and it was their policy. It makes NO SENSE! I wasn't making a new purchase. I was exchanging an item worth $2.49 for and item of equal value of $2.49. YES, I paid $1.99, however, this it's a REFUND situation. This is an EXCHANGE. I shouldn't have to ask for them to apply a discount. IF that is, in fact, their policy, it makes no sense. I will be reaching out to corporate to continue this conversation. If I'm forced to exchange items, the discount I used for that item should be applied!! It's obvious to me. I was told that I was the only costumer that has ever requested that and that I was the only one who didn't understand. The "manager" Amanda would not apply the discount to my exchange. Haven't shopped here yet, so will have to comment on that at a future date. Today I dropped off several bags of clothes, throw rugs and decorative knick knacks I finally culled out of the closets. (How do these things breed like bunnies when you're not looking!?) Usually we just do the Planet Aid drop boxes on the side of the road, or arrange for Epilepsy or Big Brothers to do a pick up. But I saw in our local paper that Savers had partnered with the Kingston, NH recreation department to raise funds for their community programs. Between Feb 27 and March 1/16, Savers will donate 20 cents/lb of soft goods and 5 cents/lb of hard goods to Kingston. I pulled into the donation center drop off area. Didn't see anyone around and it all looked really cluttered (thought maybe people were ignoring the "no dumping" sign) so wasn't sure if they were even receiving at that time. But a moment later a friendly young man came out and helped unload the Jeep. Good thing I mentioned my stuff was intended for the Kingston program, because that huge pile was what they had received so far. They were keeping it all separate from other donations. After the cut off time, they will weigh it all and determine how much the Rec Dept will receive. He took out a rewards card - you get a percentage off in the store for each big bag or box of goods donated - and punched it in full for a 30% discount. Should have only been 25%. Thank you! :) I had no intention of going in today and trying to fill up the closet space I had just opened up! But the card is good until the end of the year, so I'm sure I'll be back to have a good rummage. Not that I need anything... Famous last words! ;) read more

Imagine getting to the register and the manager decides you're not paying enough for the item. She increases the price and expects you to pay or you will not be leaving with the item you want... she also makes you feel very uncomfortable as if you are a criminal trying to look for deals...at a thrift store...I have never had a good experience when I see her. read more

I have had carloads of multiple new items to donate all packed in crates. If anyone's read my review of a, should I say competitor? they would know that Savers wasn't my 1st choice. Being that things are as they are at this time I - again like I did with the competitor which ended up being a, No- Drop -Off I phoned to make sure there wouldn't be an issue with them taking my donation. I arrived at Savers this morning with a 2 car wait.. When it was my turn I explained what was inside the plastic totes ( they could see thru) and to please keep them. The smiling & friendly associate who was there this morning couldn't have been nicer to me. She saw that I was having difficulty and immediately assisted me with getting them out of my car. WOW!! I thought.. this is a completely experience from where I tried to go yesterday. She asked if I wanted or needed a receipt and thanked me for the donation. I was planning on entering the store to shop. However the lot was full & it was raining cats & dogs by then. I have much more to bring to the donation center/ drop off & will shop the store on my next trip. read more

Once again, really disappointed in savers. I needed a new VCR/DVD player, and found a decent one for $9.99. I got to the counter and asked about the return policy, apparently you can't return or exchange electronics AT ALL. They don't even test them first. So I said to the woman "what can I do if it doesn't work?" and she said "you can donate it" ok but what good does that do me? Why would I donate something that doesn't work? Even Salvation Army offers exchanges if an electronic doesn't work. read more

Used to be my fav savers location, emphasis on used to be. they had the audacity to DENY my right to purchase because they had stuff out on the floor with no tags. they refused to let me buy even when i said i'd buy for whatever price. they refused to let me hold my items until they were priced. so i had to give up like 5 items because they were untagged and they didn't even say sorry for the inconvenience. the staff was rude about it and i was visibly annoyed and said i don't get how that makes sense. i just spent two hours digging through every rack and they forbid me to purchase. i'm sorry but if things don't have tags isn't that your fault and not mine? i don't understand at all how this is acceptable. i'll take my business to other thrift stores where if this happens they produce a price for me on the spot / compare it to a similar item. read more

I would give this store five stars if not for the poor jewelry management. They got rid of the two racks of costume jewelry a long time ago, and now except for a small end section at the register, it's all in cases. All of the Jewelry is way over priced, from costume to gold ( which is mysteriously rare to find here) Once in a while they do the jewelry jars, and they have gotten to be such a rip off that I won't buy them anymore. They are FULL of non jewelry items, junky plastic bands, and Mardi Gras beads. They are also apparently full of loose sewing pins, which made me bleed when I reached my hand in the jar. Apparently someone donated jewelry in little plastic bags that they must have hung up to a cork board or something with the straight pins, and whomever does the jewelry just left them all like that and threw them in! Very lazy and potentially hazardous. I took a couple of pictures I was so appalled. I also included a pic of the jewelry section at the Savers in Manchester that shows what they do with the junky stuff like Mardi Gras beads. They're hung neatly on a wall and they sell them for like 4 for a $1. I LOVE that they don't use them as a filler in their jars, which is dishonest in my opinion. It would be nice if this store did the same, but the manager doesn't strike me as the type to care. I pointed out once that the items on the walls weren't organized like they usually are and were a mess ( toys, kitchen utensils, sewing, and housewares all mixed together in stead of in separate sections- definitely done by employees because of the sheer volume of misplaced things) and she blamed it on the customers. This could be such a great store if they stopped over pricing, and trained their employees to pay attention to what they're doing. Not a lot to ask. I will say that the outside/back crew where you drop off are super nice and helpful. read more

First off, in my experience I have encountered several rude staff members. I have found some OK stuff here, but it is kinda overpriced. I can get new stuff on clearance for these prices. That being said, they DO have decent items in good condition. I can't bring myself to pay the high prices for used clothing, but sometimes you can find decent kids stuff. I got a pretty good tricycle for $9.99. That's the only thing I have bought there. Don't ask if they have sales though, cause they don't. The cashier girls made that rudely clear to me. read more

This is a consignment shop that I frequent almost every weekend. They have the best selection of kitchen ware. I bought Pyrex glass baking dishes for Thanksgiving there for around $1.99 / $2.99 each - also have bought many random "cool" coffee mugs and wine glasses. I wish the merchandise was (somehow) washed and dried first before placing on the racks for customers, but it's a rare thing to find at any consignment shop anyway. During Halloween they had a HUGE selection of new and old Halloween costumes and items at a decent price for good quality. I also have found many pairs of shoes for myself here, that were almost new for less than $10-20. And I have never experienced bad customer service. I would recommend this place over Salvation Army or Good Will any day of the week. read more

Since this store has opened I have found many bargains. The store is very clean, organized and the employees are more than willing to go out of their way to help you. I had the pleasure of meeting John the manager and he is nothing like what the others have written about him. The Plaistow Saver's is clean and neat most of the time and all the Saver's that I have shopped at their clothes are usually in mint condition.But the Saver's in Danvers smells musty and is messy. When Saver's has their 50% off sales you can get many decent bargains and it's worth the trip but their regular prices for a thrift store are kind of on the expensive side. The employees aren't friendly either. Most of them are usually grumpy and don't even smile back or say hello back when you say hello or smile at them. read more

I currently work here. I will be leaving soon ( I'm moving on in life), but if anyone has ever seen the one guy on a register or in fitting rooms, that was me. I've been here since we opened back in March... Trust me when I say that we really try to keep the store clean and the atmosphere nice. I never really thought we smelled like old clothes (maybe I got used to it) but that was a surprisingly common complaint. I tried my best to be good at customer service and I know my fellow employees do to. I saw the comment by Melissa below... I hope I was never rude to you. But you were infamous for coming in five minutes before we closed and you often stayed beyond closing time. I do find some terrific items in there...I love going there an I would also like to add that I always spend a lot of money .. and I also know it goes to a great cause.. but the staff is very unhelpful very RUDE . especially the manager JOHN.. I had been wanting to check out Savers since it opened a couple of years ago, and I have been several times in the last couple of months. Wish I had checked it out sooner! They have a great selection of clothes, shoes, home Knick knacks, pictures, & much more! I have gotten some nice shirts here & I even got a great pair of black capris that were Loft brand for $8.00! They have a decent selection of books, they are usually $2.99/each. They also have furniture & kids toys/ games. Sometime you have to do some digging up find a treasure, but that is part of the experience. Staff have always been friendly & helpful. Definitely recommend this place! read more

I like the store overall. There is everything from A-Z! The clothing is a bit overpriced given they get it all FREE. They called savers for a reason, to help poor people SAVE money shopping. Why pay $3-7 for a plain t-shirt I can buy new for less at Walmart. The jeans, sweats, and yoga pants are priced from $6-10, that is too much for USED FREE clothing. The clothing shod be $1-3 at most for shirts/sweaters and $3-6 at most depending on the condition and brand of bottoms. It's too pricey for the majority that shop at the Plaistow NH location. Most everything else was fairly priced. Like I said, I shop there monthly but not for clothing anymore. I've also donated over 15 trash bags full of clean, folded, new condition, good brand clothing to the particular store and the prices on the clothes I saw that were once mine were so overpriced. I love shopping savers. It is organized and clean. But please, if you donate clothing please remove tags if they have not been worn. There "so called" professional pricing people mark them according to the price tag. They also mark up certain designers for the clothes. A woman could not believe she was looking at a top 39.99!!!! You can find some treasures at Saver's, but BEWARE the electronics. And the cameras. Most of them do not work and they don't accept refunds or exchanges. I was told I am taking my chances buying them there from a manager at Saver's. Also, The prices are EXTREMELY high. Often, higher than an item when new. However, there are items you get get for good deals too. They sell anything and everything they are donated. For example, game cases with no games. And they do not clean anything. I have seen them try to sell fake Oakley's as real; in fact I bought them for $79 or so, and found out they were FAKE and they would not let me return them! He has always been so friendly and helpful, and as far as the staff goes , have nothing but good things to say about them also.. i have been going to this store since it opened, and think that they are all doing a good job. i try not to go too often because i buy things that i really do not need..ha.. and i am trying to downsize not upsize, if there is such a word....ha... but it is one of my favorite thrift stores...i also give very regular to this store which has helped me in my downsizing process., and feel like i am helping others at the same time..which makes my heart feel good. read more

I love second hand stores, I've been to many in lots of cities in lots of states. I shop for fun to find treasures or crazy deals. This Savers has a problem. The quality of everything has diminished... seems staff is "skimming" all the nice items for themselves and not putting them out. I have personally witnessed this twice when a worker with an item on their cart said they were pricing it for someone, but it never came back out for the mystery customer. Yesterday I saw a worker come from the back room, go the opposite way from where the bedding goes and approach a woman ( who buys for her resale store) and offered her a quilt.... so I'm wondering if she gets some kind of money to go bring the nicest items to her? Seems very unfair. It has become a junk store. The store itself has also become disorganized. The workers are mostly miserable, they seem to HATE their job, and are rude to customers. Management needs to address the issues at this store.... or maybe the management is in on the problem. read more
