Still not much customers around, the atmosphere was relaxed, elegant, with soothing background music. Had the early bird two-course menu with a pint and a dessert. Pint of Guinness: well poured, the bubbling foam lasting a long time, very creamy and silky mouthfeel. Jack Daniel's Chicken Wings: fried to perfection, crispy on the outside but juicy and hot meat. The JD sauce was a pleasant surprise, with refreshing maple syrup taste and a bit of smokiness that is typical of a JD whiskey, while also having some pleasant spices. 10oz Striploin steak: added €6 to sub for this, requested medium. Steak was grilled to perfection, eye-catching grill marks, juicy texture, packed with beefy taste. Though I wish the garlic butter sauce could be made with a bit more salt, and the chips could use a bit more crispiness on the outside. Ice cream sundae: though the flavors were standard vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate, the taste was very rich and smooth. Service was friendly and attentive all over. Though with some small hiccups, this has been a very pleasant experience. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Mullingar, and try to catch their early bird menu if you can. t

Opened in 2011 by chef Jess Murphy and her husband, Dave, Kai has become one of Galway's most celebrated restaurants. While it doesn't have a Michelin star for fine dining, it has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand and Ireland's only Michelin Green Star, recognizing both its outstanding food and commitment to local, sustainable ingredients. What impressed me most wasn't just how delicious everything tasted. Every plate looked like it belonged in an art gallery. We started with the Kelly oysters and Kai's signature Cupla Crab. The crab looked more like a modern sculpture than dinner, and the flavors were every bit as impressive as the presentation. The rainbow carrots may have been the best carrots I've ever eaten. And when a restaurant serves bread as good as Kai's Hapi Bakery loaf with incredible butter, it's easy to fill up before the entrées even arrive. For the mains, Brady's Strip Steak was perfectly charred and incredibly tender, while the signature Black Sole was outstanding. The Andarl pork chop was the only dish that didn't quite reach the same level, as we found it just a touch dry. The oregano potatoes made a hearty side for the table. Dessert finished the evening on a high note. Mum's Pavlova was almost too beautiful to eat, and my Smokey Teeling Whiskey Fudge & Espresso was the perfect ending.

You can tell they take pride in using high-quality ingredients. The menu is short but the options are fantastic. The wait staff were exceptional: friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable without being overbearing. If you're in Galway, I highly recommend going for lunch. The menu is the same as dinner, but the wait is much shorter. You're able to have the same amazing food with a more relaxed experience.

The room was well updated and cozy. Each morning we had full complimentary breakfast across the street at the Barracks restaurant that was included with our room. Scott runs a very hospitable business and his passion for customer service shows through his staff. Michael was awesome, not only was he the one received us at 7pm, checked us in and showed us our room, he was also working each morning in the restaurant and helped us plan our daily journeys around the Galway area. Everyone we met were very attentive , kind and helpful. Next door to the Lodge, The Stone House Pizza had awesome food as well and is the one place we found that serves a true cocktail. I highly recommend staying at the Lodge at The Old Barracks to anyone who likes a local vibe and hospitality. After our fantastic experience I would never consider staying anywhere else when visiting the Galway area.

The restaurant was far from busy, yet the waiter checked the system and found no record of my order. He then asked me to describe the staff member who had taken it. At that point, I chose to leave. What might pass for TV comedy was, in reality, deeply frustrating for any customer. If you are seeking a meal, this is not the place to go. The dog hair belief was from getting a bite from a rabid dog - if you were to be cured then you had to place a few hairs in the wound. So we sat outside in warm sunshine and the other three of us indulged in a Diet Coke, a flat white and an orange soda. Our wine drinker wanted a glass of Chardonnay but no, it was not among the choices, so she ended up with a wine we had never heard of but was acceptable - rather than enjoyable oh and she had a glass of water. The servers were very attentive and friendly. I got a flat while but the bill said cappuccino. Hey ho; the coffee was delicious. It was all very pleasant and despite it being lunch time and us taking a table merely for a few drinks no one minded. When we left we passed an ice cream wagon offering, inter alia, gin ice cream. Our wine drinker had experienced the brand a few days ago and said it was delicious but in this occasion she declined.
