My lady friend and I walked around and through the park in a leisurely fashion. The bright sun reflected off the lake in blinding but welcoming fashion. There are picnic tables to use in the warmer weather but the main activity here is fishing. Note - there is no swimming or ice skating allowed. There are three drawbacks to Loch Alsh Park. The first one is that it is noisy as right next to it is the 309 Highway. Second you cannot walk all around the lake as some of the land bordering the lake is private. And finally, St. Mary's Lake and grounds which directly borders Loch Alsh and would be a wonderful and natural extension to this park is also private. Still it's good to know about this small scenic spot if you are in the Ambler area.

Friends told us it gets a lot more crowded when the concert is packed. Explored the stream, played on the playground and had a game in the field as well. Good drainage after recent rains. Bumped into other friends who happened to be there for the concert. After group activities, went to check out the concert and noticed the public bathrooms and tennis courts adjacent to the amphitheater area. It would be super fun to play tennis with the music going. Found a robust black cherry tree and some other cool species thriving in the park. Look forward to returning.

Also they don't take credit, so make sure to bring cash. Multiple ponds on the property to choose from and they sell all sorts of bait, as well as rent out rods, if you don't have your own. I've had good luck catching large mouth on medium shiners. They've got bathrooms on the property and the staff is friendly and helpful. Also, there are benches and tables throughout the property, which makes it convenient if bringing food or if you have children. Everytime I've gone, I've had a lot of fun and caught some nice ones. If you're looking for a new fishing spot or new to fishing in general, give this place a shot!

There were a few benches along the way, but I could see how there could be a need for more benches if more people were present. We were also surprised that we did not encounter many bugs. His mausoleum is in Laurel Hill Cemetery, so although originally from North Carolina, his true impact was on the cultural life of our city. Fairly small, it feels considerably larger due to its connection to Pennypack Park covering a large area in Northeast Philadelphia to the border with Montco. The creek by the same name flows through both parks, tying them together geologically. The watercourse meanders through Lorimer where it has cut a deep ravine over the millennia. There are multiple scenic overlooks worth exploring, even in winter when the absence of foliage allows you to see through the trees to the actual contours of the steep rocky hills across the creek. If power walking or family bike riding is your jam, Pennypack Trail runs along the northern boundary of the park and beyond for several miles, and it is flat, wide and dirt/gravel packed for smooth ambulation or cross country biking, allowing excellent views of the topography and creek vale. Plenty of parking in a big lot across the road from the main entrance.

One lane road with pull off's to allow traffic to pass. All the way to the end is a turn around. Parking is just before this turn around. A small dock allows for kayaks and paddle boards to be put in the water, but the stairs down to the dock are not in good condition, so use caution There are several bike and hiking paths, but recent floods have closed some of the paths, so again, use care. It is interesting to see these canal Locks. So much commerce went up and down PA using canal's w/locks. To see one up close and personal, this is the spot to do it.
